When I first listened to this song, the immediate interpretation that came to my mind was of one losing all sense of self, yet ultimately regaining it through spirituality. In essence, negating all that the individual hated him/herself for, and replacing it with an abundance of spiritual substance.
Naturally, this is what I interpreted this song to mean, as it spoke to me in that vein. What MJK had in mind while writing these lyrics, I can't say, and I won't begin to make an attempt.
I've always believed that making an effort to reflect on oneself, and finding that which made you what you were, was somewhat mandatory if you were to better yourself as an individual. It's a method used to discern those things about yourself that you feel you could improve, or re-educate yourself about. My personal opinion is, if you don't truly know yourself, then how can you truly know anything?
