From 10000 days forum:

I've been distant.

Anyway, I, as I do often (I sometimes find "interesting" things there) checked out the source for Toolband at around midnight on April 2nd. Maybe 20 lines down I found this written:

"S, tonight we had some visitors (yes, the dreaded ones). Our job has changed a bit. They say we've gone a touch too far with XM."

Whatever, I know webmasters sometimes do this type of shit. But the XM part piqued my interest. I continued, and at the very bottom, under "<font color="purple">BMB</font><!-- ID: 1822 | author: 10 --><BR><BR>" there was this:

"We've got 'em hooked. If only they knew. See you soon. We've a matter to discuss."

Actually at the original post on the 10,000 days forum, the last line reads "This morning it was gone."

Apparently, if these (I presume commented out portions of HTML) were there last night, they were quickly cleaned up by today.

Man, Tool are awsome.

Hiding messages in the source code of their website.

Amazing.

I don't believe it without a screenshot. And even then I don't beleive it.

Although I'd like to :/

I have no idea how to do screenshots on this computer, but if you go there and look at the source of the news page, what I put is definitely there. One person has already confirmed it. I donīt know what it means, and I tried using the extension in there in two different addresses, but each time got nothing. Maybe someone else can do something with it.

Edit: To the poster above me, I have never checked the source code. Never occurred that secret messages or whatever would be getting revealed that way, so if itīs been there for a long time, sorry, I had no idea.

I meant about the stuff said in the original post. I believe the other thing.

I check the source once in a while... last time was prolly a month ago, and that wasn't there. Its new.

You can view it in Firefox as well. If you right click the text area of toolband.com, go to "this frame", and then "view frame source", you'll be set.

In an effort to steer this thread in a somewhat productive direction, what is everyone's interpretation of these comments if they were indeed buried within the site's HTML for a short while last night? Any ideas on who this "S" person is that first appeared at the bottom of the "Eureka!" post?

The NY reviews is from May 2001, the Melvins code is from probably 2002, and I'm assuming the newsletter thing is old as can be as well.

I explained in the original thread about author IDs that they correspond to the Too Larmy Id numbers. I'm not sure if I mentioned or not, but several of them are not listed members (though most are).

Ctrl+U will view source in most browsers.

I don't think the NY review, Melvins code, or newsletter comments were ever a topic of interest in this thread. I agree they have been there for some time. The seven short sentences apparently added sometime last night and removed by this morning are of greater importance:
"S, tonight we had some visitors (yes, the dreaded ones). Our job has changed a bit. They say we've gone a touch too far with XM."

Whatever, I know webmasters sometimes do this type of shit. But the XM part piqued my interest. I continued, and at the very bottom, under "<font color="purple">BMB</font><!-- ID: 1822 | author: 10 --><BR><BR>" there was this:

If we believe this comment was sincere, then there is almost definitely some trickery going on regarding 10,000 Days. If not, someone with write access to the site could just be screwing with us even further.

Fair enough. We have no way to confirm/disconfirm this was there. Even a screenshot or copy of source would be most easily forged. The message itself, as you say, is straight forward enough about the meaning. The only issue would be whether the album is some sort of 'meme virus' that Tool is about to unleash upon an unsuspecting public, or if the meaning is strictly 'hey the album info is a hoax.'

So he posted this info hours after he checked and saw this stuff so no one else could confirm it, then says, "And by the way, on my laptop I have the entire source if someone needs "proof". However, I won't have access to that again until...I don't know...a couple hours."...
