i dont know where it started, but i heard it today. it actually seems to coincide with the dates that are already up. Ozzfest generally starts July 15th and tools last date is the 9th, leaving the possibility for an ozzfest slot competely open.

Much rather see TooL by themselves or with one opening band.

Too much of a Kid Rock kinda crowd at Ozzfest, IMO. : \

A friend of mine was tellin me about this a few weeks ago... where he heard it, I have no idea. Despite how there is a mystery mainstage act, and the dates seem to allow it, I just really don't believe Tool would play Ozzfest again. But hey, who knows.

ive accually heard that rumor too. The dj on the radio said they were possibly playing ozfest. (lazr 99.3)I dont knoW why you all would have a problem with it. alice in chains are even getting back together to play the show. metalica was suposed to headline the show but dropped off the list a week ago so i wouldnt doubt the fact they need a new band to fill their slot. and to all you ozzy haters, dont worry.... hes not playing this year.

Hahaha, wow. Alice in Chains getting back together . . . thats going to be a bit difficult, what with the lead singer being dead and all. I can see Jerry Cantrell doing something, but Alice in Chains died with Layne.

Ozzy is playing this year, its already been announced. LAZR 99.3 does kick ass, but apparently they aren't so reliable with their info, or you're just not all that smart.

Regardless-

It would be cool to see Tool in the festival-style setting. While there is no doubt that they put on an amazing show by themselves and should headline whatever they play, I still think it would be sweet to see them just playing the music, outside, with thousands of people enjoying it, instead of the entire show they normally put on, with the weird backgrounds and odd theatrics. As fun as that is, it would be cool to just see a show focused 100% on the music.

That being said, theres probably no chance in hell that they're playing Ozzfest.

Alice in Chains did get back together. They are doing select shows somewhere in Europe. I forgot who was taking on vox duty though.

And Ozzy is only doing a few shows this year. About 4-6 shows or so I hear. After that, SOAD is probably taking over the headline slot.

Now, Tool on the second stage would be great- but that would essantially make the second stage the main stage, as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe Ozzy will do the first couple of shows, then Tool will pick up the headlinging :-)

Hard to tell, the tour section here lists the last ozzfest show of 98 that they played was 8/2. I can't seem to find anything anywhere that lists a later date than that. Actually this is the only place I could find a date that was later then 7/30 (I checked some of the other bands websites for tour history and the fact that most of them list the 7/9 show as being in Hershey PA when I saw them on that date in Mansfield MA makes me not believe anything from their sites). So I've come to the conclusion that they DID NOT drop out of that tour.

I saw them the year they were at ozzfest and they put them on in the middle of the day, which sucked but you can't say Tool would never do Ozzfest because they already have done it. Seriously I doubt that they'll be on the tour but you can't dismiss it out of hand.

I agree wholeheartedly. I just was thinking they may play a few select dates, then gear up for a full blown tour around fall or winter. Regardless of where they play, I am going. I would love to go to Coachella, but money and distance prevent it. I saw them with Fantomas, and just wanted to die, it was a life changing show. As they were walking off stage after their group hug/circle thing, Maynard took a swig out of his bottled water then tossed it into the crowd. I leaped into the air and caught it. It still resides in the back of my freezer, safe, until the time comes when Maynard must be cloned, then I will extract his DNA from the frozen water. WHOAH, I am rambling, must........stop...........now..........

LOOK AT THE TOUR DATES PEOPLE!!

THERE IS NO FUCKING WAY! DUH!!!!

I was only saying it was a possibility, and I did look at the tour dates. The CONFIRMED dates, as we know so far, end July 9th. In theory, they could join the Ozzfest tour in mid July, tour all the way through the rest of the month, then take about a week off before they pick up again on August 8th. I was not aware that Tool had already undeniably turned down a slot on the tour, as I called in sick the day that memo came out. So armed with the knowledge I had at hand, I was just thinking for myself & questioning authority. DUH!!!! (By the way, adding the ever dreaded "DUH!!!!" to your witty retort will most likely earn you a spot in the pantheon of profoundly intelligent forum members. Once I read that, I knew I was utterly defenseless, and would never be able to come up with anything that would rival your obvious prowess of the English language. Kudos to you. I just want to see Tool in a festival sitting instead of seeing them in normal setting again. I don't mean to say they wouldn't be good to see in a 'normal' concert- when I saw them before they were absolutely amazing- I just think they're the kind of band, with the kind of fans and attitudes, who could take a festival and turn it into something really memorable. After seeing Tool in New Haven, CT, people were hanging out around outside and there was a nice community feeling.

I would love to see a Toolfest.
