Stinkfist
46&2
Schism
Lost Keys
Rosetta Stoned
Right in Two
Wings pt 1
Wings pt 2
Lateralus w/ Melt Banana

Overall, it was a very good show. The acoustics weren't great, but they never are at the Civic Center. The band was in excellent form, and the crowd seemed to be into the music for the most part. The visuals were excellent, definitely something worth seeing.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

someone threw something on stage during Stinkfist and Maynard jumped off of his riser and picked it up....instead of singing a line in the song, he commented on whatever was thrown, cellphone maybe? i dunno, he didnt seem too thrilled.

overall, great show....Maynards vocals were wayyyyyyy too low, that was the only part that sucked. he also commented about 6 times for no flash cameras during Wings 1 & 2 and people respected it for the most part, although most of the crowd seemed bored with it....all the drunk people would scream when the lasers came out.

Lateralus was the highlight of the night with all members of melt banana on stage jamming out...the lead singer played cards with Maynard on his riser. I think this should be the closer, the crowd when absolutely apeshit and the band nailed it.

Lots of drunk people doing crazy shit though, fucking ridiculous.....

Setlist:

Jambi
Stinkfist (ext)
46&2
Schism (ext)
Lost Keys
Rosetta Stoned
Right In Two
Wings For Marie
10,000 days
Lateralus (ext/w all of Melt Banana)
Vicarious

My fifth show spanning over ten years. They came out ready to play. Maynard said something I don't recall after Jambi. Then the crowd showed how much they suck. During Stinkfist some douchebag threw something on stage. Maynard went to pick it up thus not singing the second verse. Upon returning to the mic he said something I couldn't make out (about singing) then he clearly said "fuck you". This ruined the entire mood of the show. Maynard said nothing else until right before Wings part 1 when he said "No Flash cameras please x 6 or 7". Then of coarse during the song some fucktard used a flash camera. Instead of singing the end of part 1 he said "Please no flash cameras" another 6 or 7 times.

During Lateralus Maynard and the lead singer from melt banana played the card game War. Obviously not a whole game.

They sounded good, they have the best sound guys in the business. Adam didn't seem into it at all. Danny had his normal energy. Justin was having issues with his rig all night but he was full of energy as well.

All and all I was disappointed.

Melt Banana was above my head. I went in with an open mind but they didn't appeal to me. They were loud LOUD. The whole time the were playing I was thinking the are Ninja-MING", 'cause they look like little ninjas, but the guitarist apparently has SARS, or so the mask makes one believe. ;)

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

Good show for the most part.

This was my first time seeing them in concert, and the civic center really isn't the best venue for acoustics, but they really did sound amazing. Wings 1 & 2 were awesome live!!! I love them even more now.

Lost Keys and Rosetta Stoned were probably my favorites of the evening, but Lateralus with Melt Banana was insane!!

Even though the concert was around an hour and fifty minutes, I wish the guys would have played at least 1 or 2 more songs. They played absolutely nothing from Undertow, and from what I've been reading they have been playin Flood recently. Not tonight, though. Maybe it was because of the mother*#$@$! who threw sh#t on stage during Stinkfist.

Only thing I didn't like was being close to the mosh area and getting beer spilled on me. Otherwise, great show!!!

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

Jambi
(-)Ions briefly
Stinkfist (Ext)
Forty Six and 2
an interlude that included a bit of Merkaba (I think)
Schism (Ext)
Lost Keys (no vox)
Rosetta Stoned
Intension (no vox, approx 4 min)
Right In Two
Wings for Marie
10,000 Days ("no flash photography please")
Lateralus (Ext w/ all of Melt Banana, Maynard and the MB singer appeared to be playing cards during the jam)
Vicarious

Too bassy, vocals buried in the mix. The Civic Center generally sucks for acoustics, it's designed for hockey and basketball games.

The band was on point throughout, Maynard was obviously annoyed at times (during Stinkfist he chastised the crowd for not knowing the words or something like that)

Visually incomparable to anything else I've ever seen - not much in the way of lasers describing patterns on the stage that previoius reviews have led me to expect, but still astonishing, especially during Wings/10K.

Oh, this was my 5th show, and 1st on the 10K tour.

Crowd was the usual problematic Peoria crowd of ignorant metalheads, and might just have cost us Aenema, as it seemed that Justin, Danny, and Adam wanted to continue and Maynard nixed it.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

Melt Banana wasn't very bad. I thought they were funny. It was like really fast Japanese punk. Nothing very special compared to Tool and I realized it must suck to open for Tool because no matter how good you are the fans wont give two shits who you are but on the bright side you would be touring with Tool.

It was a great show a LOT better than the Chicago one last fall in my oppinion. The only things that bothered me was that they had no encore and you couldn't hear Maynard worth shit. I thought the crowd was pretty respectful when Maynard asked for no flash but I assume someone must have because he made a point to repetavively ask for no flash again. Then during Stinkfist the fucker threw something on stage. I think it was a wallet and instead of singing the whole (I think) second verse he walks over picks it up and says. "It's mine now fucker." Or something along those lines either way he didn't seem happy. Kind of funny I took a freshman kid who isn't really too into Tool and I was dancing and singing along and freaking out and he just stood there the whole time.

Civic Center was great compared to Allstate the acoustics were great. (meaning Allstate was significantly worse) But I'm content I could see the stage and enjoy all the stage and show effects.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

i believe the item that was thrown on stage during stinkfist was a CD, because i saw a reflective surface. i thought i saw maynard open it up and start flipping through the booklet instead of singing. then when they hit the ending hard he threw it down and started stomping on it. not gonna post a review about the show because everything has already been said. drunk, idiotic, rednecks ruined the show for a lot of real tool fans who were there to enjoy the show and let the music take control of them. what's the point of being at a concert if you won't remember anything about it the next day? and some guy next to me was repeatedly using a flash phone camera over and over. even after being warned by security guards and having maynard say don't use flash camera's. "i paid for my ticket so i can do whatever i want yuck yuck yuck." plus some guy in an abercrombie shirt was only there to see the titties he kept calling for, go to a fucking saliva concert or something retard.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

7th show. I am really, REALLY pissed at the stupid people on the floor who ruined the atmosphere for everyone else there..

Maynard was clearly upset with this crowd. Sang with his back to us almost the whole time. I don't blame him. Although there is no place I would rather be than a TOOL concert, it isn't as much fun if the guys on stage aren't into it.

I mean really.... How many times does he have to ask for there to be no flash photography during wings. He didn't sing the last verse because of that, and I seriously wonder if he contemplated not finishing the set list. You're in the presence of GREATNESS. If you want to drink, throw shit and be stupid, go somewhere else.

Tool rocks, no matter what...
But if Peoria wants another show from this band, they better straighten their dumb drunk asses up.

There were also these two real drunk guys that I won 10 bucks off of because they swore TOOL would play Eulogy. He didn't know I had went to see them the night before in Cedar Rapids. The dip shit told me he was there and they play Eulogy and H. Stupid people suck.

Maybe Shaumburg will be better. I can only hope.
I have pictures and videos (no, I didn't use a flash) (it's called respect)
I will post them tomorrow..

Peace

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

O.k from the begining, Melt Banana sucked... well i think the music is good but the singer brings them down. But once tool took the stage it was an unstopable force.

Jambi- Rocked!
Stinkfist- It was great until some douche bag threw a cup of beer on stage, maynard then got off his pedistal, which i didn't think his religion allowed him to do. Got it took it back and said somthin like " Why do all of you drunk assholes keep your trash...?" Threw it back and didn't sing end.
46&two- The bass sounded decent, it sounded too high and clangy at times.. But still amazing
Schism- There was a nice intro to the song. Played it amazingly with an excellent breakdown and as far as i can tell completely new visuals since their last tour.
LostKeys/RosettaStoned- Was good, the voice box maynard used sounded amazing, but when ever he didn't use the box his voice was too quiet. I know it would kill his voice but i wish i could have heard him duing the screams in this song.
RIGHT IN TWO- A f*cking 'mazing! I lost a bet due to this song but it was all good.
Tool took their break then. All sat on maynards pedistal and i swear that i saw adam pass Danny a joint.
Wings1-Was good, maynard is too nice to some assholes who decide to take pictures when he says to please not take them. So he didn't sing the last part.
Wings2-Was great the lasers were the best!
Laterlaus-The extra parts were amazing, and I'm pretty sure maynard kicked her ass in war.
Vicarious-So good, the bass solo was right on.
All in all an amazing show.

(-) ions
Stinkfist (extended)

Schism (extended)
Lost Keys
Rosetta Stoned
Intension intro
Right In Two

Wings for Marie
10,000 Days

Definately an interesting show.

MELT BANANA:

Not my cup of tea. I'm not going to rip them or be down-right cruel as some of the crowd was toward them (yelling and booing them) but I will say that their kind of music just seems to be a little too annoying, I found myself getting more irritated by the minute with their set. It's just too over the top, kind of like if you put Linkin Park, Motley Crue and Isis in a blender and put it on "liquefy". But they are artists trying to make it big and I respect that.

THE CROWD:

I have to say that I was disappointed with the crowd. I had lower bowl seats parallel to the sound booth and only two or three people moved or showed any enthusiasm whatsoever. It was also irritating to be in front of three or four drunken jackasses making cat calls at every female that walked past. I felt particularly bad for the twelve year old girl wearing the glowing belt that got verbally assaulted by these retards, way to ruin what was probably her first Tool show you drunken fucks.

It didn't help matters when some mongoloid threw what looked to be a CD onto the stage during "Stinkfist" which pissed off Maynard. He said something to the effect of "it would be nice if the lead singer could sing for you...fuckers". And then he changed the ending lyrics of "Wings for Marie" to "no flash photography please, no flash photography...please, NO flash photography".

TOOL:

Jambi:

Good opener, good energy. Seemed to flow better than Chicago last year. "Good evening" uttered Maynard. (-) ions played for 30 or so seconds, and electric arcs scrolled left to right on the projection screens.

Stinkfist:

Great energy as well, had the extended bridge and intro sample just before the "I'll keep digging part".

Forty-Six & 2:

Started with Adam's keyboard intro and gradually worked up to Danny's superhuman drum solo...so amazing to see live.

Schism:

Had the guitar intro and double time middle. Seems Adam had a little trouble coming back in after the double time but it wasn't that noticeable.

Lost Keys:

Was longer than Chicago, seems Justin took more time "adjusting" his bass to make the right noise.

Rosetta Stoned:

Excellent visuals but this time it seemed a little looser than I remember. Maynard still rushes the first two lines and has to wait for the song to catch up and he didn't do any of the screaming parts, oh well, still pretty good.

Right In Two:

I initially was somewhat let down when I saw Adam kept his guitar (he changes guitars for "Pushit") so I knew "Flood" and "Pushit" wouldn't be. Though "Right In Two" is so much better than I thought it would be. It starts off very subtle and chugs along to this powerful ending, very nice.

Wings 1 and 2:

As usual the audience would NOT shut up. Couldn't hear much of "Wings" but "10,000 Days" was pretty audible. Would have been nice if the idiots would have listened to Maynard's no flash photography request the first time so he wouldn't have to repeat it during "Wings" and then not finish singing the lyrics to "10,000 Days". The lasers were phenominal though, excellent work on behalf of the lighting tech.

Lateralus:

That is what I am talking about! That song is always epic and it finally got the crowd going. Melt Banana came out during the middle and Danny let loose on his kit. During this time Maynard and the Melt Banana lead singer played cards on his platform, it was pretty funny. Then when it was time for Maynard to come back in he just kind of looked around and kept playing cards for a little while longer.

Vicarious:

Not my favorite song but it actually rocked really hard. It actually is a decent closer. The lasers also seemed the most elaborate during this song as well.

I got the setlist thanks to Tool's "Secret Serial Killer", though I had to bribe the guard to let me get onto the floor to get it, I'll post a scan of it up later today or tomorrow.
Thanks "you fucking serial killer, one day they'll find the bodies and it'll all be over".

Here's a scan of the setlist:

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...20_setlist.jpg

To wrap all of this up:

Despite the shitty crowd the band was pretty much spot on as usual. Tight performances by all four of them. The visuals (projection screens, lights, lasers) were breath-taking (I found myself in a trance during "10,000 Days" just watching them) so it was a great experience. Hopefully the crowd in Chicago will be as good as they were last year so the band can do what they do best...rock hard.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

I don't know how anyone could possibly think that it was a "great show" and by no means was it better than their show at Allstate last year. A bunch of dumb hillbilly rednecks came out to act obnoxious, and Maynard responded. None of the band even seem interested in playing. His vocals were low as hell and clearly didn't have his all. Did he say something about being sick? Might have had something to do with the dust at Bonnaroo. Because I know that I am sick as all hell and so is everyone that went with me. At any rate, the longer solos were pretty cool. Danny was on point for most of the show, Justin had missed a few things, but that place is absolutely dog crap as far as acoustics. I knew bad things were coming when they were playing music before the show and I could hear like a resonance build up :(

I might be having high expectations after seeing them Friday at the roo though.

Sears Center Will Be Better.

Why do people feel the need to be assholes ?

Peace Out

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

First Tool show for me. All around a cool experience, but the setlist was lacking. Nothing from Opiate or Undertow?

During Stinkfist, someone threw something on stage. Maybe a CD. Pissed Maynard off and threw the mood for the whole night. Couldn't quite tell what he said (his mic was low all night), but it sounded like "Do you want me to look at this or sing? Cause I thought you'd want me to sing?". Thankfully, he still sang most of the remaining songs.

The first half was definitely better than the second with Jambi and Stinkfist. It seemed like the stands emptied out during Lost Keys for beer runs. Wings/10,000 Days would've been cool (I love the CD versions), but I couldn't hear anything Maynard was singing during the songs. Maybe it's the crappy acoustics, or maybe he wasn't feeling well so his mic wasn't up all the way. But without the lyrics, those songs become 20+ minutes of the same instrumental.

Lateralus was pretty good, but the part with Melt Banana dragged. I don't need a 10 minute drum off when we all know Danny can easily win. They could've slipped in another song instead (Pushit or The Pot anyone?). Too bad they didn't throw in Aenema for an encore.

All in all, it was a good first show. Excellent visuals and some rocking tunes. It just ended way too soon...

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

Last night's show was completely full of fucktards with no respect for the band, or anyone actually trying to enjoy the show. There was some piece of shit next to me actually trying to carry on a cellphone conversation during the show. fucking seriously. Evidently the high ticket prices arent enough to make people try to get the most out of a show. A tool show is one of those experiences where you can totally get lost in the music, unless you were standing on the floor where I was. Some drunk assholes were next to me.. during Wings Pt.1 and were whistling and his girlfriend was screaming... I just turned to him and said "yeah, we got it" and he says... "somebody's gotta be loud in this motherfucker" to which I reply.. "maybe there's a reason you're the only one whistling you fucking moron!" .. He was quiet after that.

I think part of the problem with the crowd in peoria... is that there just arent enough big shows coming through town. We get one decent show like every 18 months or so. I'm tired of driving to Chicago to see a decent concert, and having Tool in peoria was convenient.. but if the crowd is going to behave like that, looks like i'm puttin money in my gas tank and driving.

It wasnt all bad, at least we didnt have to put up with scurvy pekin-ites showing their trailer park titties before the show. Kudos to the civic center for not having the plywood on the ice scenario that has been disastrous in the past. This area is full of idiots.. i should move.

Sorry for bitching so much.. The show was pretty good. In to it or not, the band was so incredibly tight, unbelievable musicianship.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

My second show. Can't say it will be my last, but, <sigh> I don't know. Love the band, love the music. I'm not that old, 34, but feel like the concert thing is kind of iffy anymore. I just don't get it. Does anyone come to listen to the music and watch the show? Seriously. Maybe my mistake was that I was on the floor. Its just so surreal to see people moshing and surfing during Wings. Am I missing something? It really takes away from the enjoyment, to the point where I don't think I'm going to the St. Louis show even though I have a ticket. Its absolutely nothing against Tool, but the stupid crowds are unbearable. And I say this fearing like I'm some uppity douche bag, that's not it (I hope). Here's my other thoughts

During Stinkfist, it was a CD case that was thrown on stage. As the prior posts said, he didn't sing the second verse while he was looking at it. A few minutes later, he grabbed the CD from where he put it and smashed it with his heel.

Llike so many others, I tried to like Melt Banana. Seriously. I tried. The music isn't absolutely terrible, but the vocals - yikes.

The vocals: MJK's vocals were much better than when I saw the show last fall in Chicago. But the acoustics are just plain bad in the arena. I don't know what you do about this, but 70% of the time the vocals were drowned out.

I give credit to the security guys that were around my section. They were cool and didn't do anything stupid. Even handed out water.

That's about it. Still love the music, but the live experience isn't that great; but its not Tool's fault that's for sure.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

I had some of the best seats that you could ever have at a Tool show this time around since we were on the lower level to the left of the stage we could see every little note being played as well as everything visual perfectly. I'd have to say the highlights of the night were Jambi, Right In Two, Lateralus and Rosetta Stoned but the whole show was so amazing words can't even describe it. To the asshole who threw something on stage during Stinkfist I hope you go and fuck yourself for almost ruining that song and almost making Maynard leave he was really pissed thanks to you asshole. To the people who wouldn't listen to Maynard during Wings/10,000 days about the flash cameras you can go fuck yourselves too because that song is for his mother so show some fucking respect people. I know people in Chicago would never act like this to piss Maynard off so you Peoria people need to learn from the rest of us. All in all it was worth the 3 hour drive there and back and I can't wait for the Chicago and Milwaukee shows the next 2 weeks. FLOOR HERE I COME AND IF THEY DON'T PLAY THIRDEYE SOON I'M GOING TO FLIP!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

Where do I start?

Drove down from Chicago. Hoped Maynard wouldn't be sick for my third TOOL show in the last year.....

The Civic Center is nice and small, but the acoustics were horrible. Even the Aragon in Chicago sounds better than the Peoria Civic Center.

Let me rant a small minute on the opening band. Melt Banana. I've seen some bad bands in my day, but this band is easily now the worst band I have ever seen in my entire life. Absolutely horrible. At what point do the guys realize they don't need an opening act? It would be great if TOOL just toured by themselves. No one really wants to hear the opening act anyway, so why bother?

I was high up on the stage right side in the balcony. Great seats for seeing the band closer than I am accustomed to, but right at ear-splitting speaker level. A majority of the time, the whole TOOL sound was one big muddy mess. The bass just dominated everything (aside from a high-pitched guitar note or a snap of Danny's snare/cymbal). At times, the musical instruments were indecipherable from each other in the mix.

Maynard seemed a bit subdued. It was almost like he was "phoning it in". Didn't hit most of the high notes, seemed more concerned with staring at the back screens and being in his own world, etc. You'lll never really get any energy out of Adam, so that wasn't a surprise.

I could watch Danny play drums for hours. The guy is absolutely astounding. He plays effortlessly and with such precision. Kudos to him.

It was nice to hear "Right in Two". I was expecting "Flood" and wasn't disappointed when I didn't hear it.

I also was glad the kids in front of me sat down for a majority of the show (yes I sit at TOOL shows now. There's a reason why I don't buy main floor tickets....). The vantage point I had for seeing the stage light effects was great. Absolutely amazing.

Overall, it was maybe a "C" grade show. The acoustics were horrible, opening band was absolute torture, and I wonder if at this stage of their 'career', some of the guys are just going through the motions. Thank God their music is still amazing, and the light show is incredible.

Aside from "Lateralus", the songs that got the biggest reaction were all off of Aenima. Interesting.

It's sad that when they started to play "Wings for Marie/10,000 Days" a LOT of people headed for the beer stands or just out to socialize. They missed possibly the greatest moments of the show music-wise. "10,000 Days" is a masterpiece.

Few observations:

1.) If you're more concerned with using the text message function on your phone instead of watching the actual show, why the hell are you there? It's scary to see just how many young kids are completely addicted to their phones.

2.) If the acoustics are as bad as they are at places like the Peoria Civic Center, do you really need to make it worse by playing louder than necessary?

3.) Lay off the cigarettes.

4.) The sample of the human genetic makeup that I saw within that Civic Center last night was absolutely frightening.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

I agree with you guys 100%. I guess it was a mistake to get floor tickets because idiots don't know anything about being at a concert. I'm just going to start getting seats if I ever go to a concert again that is. I go to a pretty good amount of concerts, I have seen worse crowds but they just seem to get worse everytime I go to a show. This just left a bad taste in my mouth for concerts. I'm so upset on how the crowd acted which caused the band to act like they didn't even want to play for us or even be there at all. I couldn't get into the music at all being up front because the crowd was so terrible and like I said, it was like the band didn't even want to be there but I guess I can't really blame them at all.
It was a cd that was thrown durring Stinkfist, Maynard picked it up, said a few words, then threw it down and later stomped it with his mic stand.
The whole show wasn't bad, there were Definitely some high lights of the night, mainly being Lateralus. Right in Two was ok but I was hoping for Flood.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

Last nights show wasn't the best but it wasn't bad. Maynard came out dancing during Jambi but everyone knows that he was pretty pissed after that. The sound was really bad the whole night I had section 17B and really couldn't hear that well. I love TOOL and I have always loved every song that they play but why when they played Rosetta Stoned, Right in Two and Wings did everyone have to sit down and start talking? TOOL only comes around every once in a while and a lot of people didn't get the most of it. Everything the band played was really good but I thought the Cape Girardeau show was better. Sound was better and Maynard was in a really good mood the whole night. He didn't have to ask the crowd at all for NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY when they played RIght in Two that night. I just pray that friday's show in the hometown of St. Louis is the best bc its the last of three that i'm seeing on this tour.

One final note that I forgot to mention earlier - I'm pretty sure that the intro they're using before Lateralus is a sample of a Einsturzende Neubauten song called "Neun Arme."

Maynard: Get Over It

I have to say first that I believe Tool to be geniuses. Especially Danny and Adam. I think there is a strong argument to be made that every member of the band is one of the best, if not THE best, at their specific trade. A bad Tool concert is still better than any other concert you will go to.

I was on the floor here and in Baltimore, and Baltimore was 10,000 times better than this debacle.

That being said, I think too often Maynard makes a habit of punishing the rest of the crowd for a few people being wastes of space and blood on this planet. It could be worse, Maynard. You could have a 9-5 job like the rest of us.

I wish the worst thing that happened to me every day was that someone threw a CD at my feet. Everyone should take a big step back and realize: Maynard let the mood go to shit tonite because somebody threw a CD on stage. ?

I truly thank God that Danny isn't set off on such a short fuse, because if he mailed it in like Maynard seems to do for little reason, the shows would be AWFUL.

I have seen TOOL live 7 times now, and one thing has been very clear to me each time: Danny carries that show each and every night. He puts the most in emotionally and Physically. He must burn 3000 calories during each set.

Again, I love TOOL, but I don't think the majority of us fans who get it, deserve to be the babies who are thrown out with the bath water every time some 15 year old pot head with Mommy and Daddy issues throws a CD, or beer, or whatever on stage.

I wish I could turn my back on everyone at work when some dipshit pissed me off.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

Yeah, I agree with the hicks and all of that..you hillbillies suck and you need to not go to these shows period. Whether or not Maynard did this or that to the mood, I believe the people overall were annoying and the cameras ruined wings at certain points. I live in wisconsin, so I understood the moshing just at the heavy riffs and doing nothing and yelling during quiet parts. It's an experience and I loved it. I think ill go to a nicer area (peoria= hilbilly ville) to get the great quiet I need for the experience and not have as many drunk assholes. I don't think thats too much to ask for. Anyway, set list was great and I would loved something off of underow, or "pushit" but right in two was amazing. The lazer show was the shit and overall I loved being close to the stage...I was wearing a "jack bauer for president" shirt (hhaha funny) and was right in front of adam. I tried to watch everyone evenly, bass, drums, vocals and 6 string as much as possible to get a full experience and only because of that do i have any memory making it worth these ringing ears 24 hours later (thanks melt suck my banana). The pros
Lateralus
Right in Two
Wings I/II
getting thumbs up by danny carey and justin c on the way off stage since I was the only one doing a thumbs up and not gay horns.

Cons:
hill
billies
and drunk assholes
and maynard having to turn his back because of stupid women sneaking in cameras.

Otherwise, only fix I can make is have a better location to go to...and ill be good..maybe a better seat cpl rows in to see the lit up stage.
Peace

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

Good show all in all. Setlist is correct. Maynard was PISSED. To correct an earlier post, it was actually a CD that someone threw on stage and Maynard said something like "Do you want me to listen to this instead of sing?"

Ruined the entire mood of the show, Maynard has his back to us the whole night.

I'll write more when I get home, currently I'm in St. Louis and I'll be seeing them one more time tomorrow night. Hopefully no dipshits will throw anything on stage.

Peace

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

First - Melt Banana - interesting music (kinda like SOAD meets Rage Against the Machine meets Poke-Mon), amazing energy. I enjoyed their set a lot.

Second - The Crowd - I will repeat what has already been said. The crowd sucked. I was down on the floor right up front to five rows back. The obnoxious idiots pushing, shoving, moshing (to Wings/10,000 Days, nonetheless - why...?) Were really friggin' annoying. One girl was getting crushed a lot and made me wrap my arms around her help her try and keep some distance - I didn't complain about that, but still it's unnecessary for crap like that to have to happen. DO NOT THROW CRAP ON THE STAGE - how much of an idiot do you have to be to NOT understand that???? As been said, a CD got thrown up there during the 1st chorus of Stinkfist and Maynard played around with it and mocked it during the second verse, thus it was unsung. But that's bad behavior on the part of whatever imbicile did that. One person is all it takes, and you can ruin it for thousands.

Only good thing from the crowd was when the lighters lit up the place. That was awesome. And the very end, it was really friggin' loud. Other than that, the crowd lacked energy for the band, but kept it to annoy each other.

Aside from that...

TOOL:

My "first concert" cherry and first "Live TOOL" cherry was popped at the same time with this show. I was blown away for nearly two hours. It was incredible. Yes, Maynard's mic was low a lot, but I heard him fine enough. And for those of you who keep saying the band was not into it at all for this show, you are wrong. Being where I was, I could see the smiles on all the members, even Maynard and Adam. Adam moved more at this show than he usually does (judging from vids from other shows). And he smiled, as I said. They all smiled a lot, and they really seemed to enjoy themselves with the exception of Maynard for the most part. And again, I don't blame him. I would've been upset as well.

JAMBI: AMAZING way to start it off. Maynard came out and ready to go with it. Talk Box solo - Awesome. One of my favs off the new record. Thank you, Tool.

STINKFIST: is where Maynard got taken out. He really seemed like he was going to enjoy himself for the show until that point. BUT, what made this one awesome after Not singing the second verse, he picked up his mic stand and smashed that CD. Don't try to "make it" into the music world like that. I would've done the exact same thing if I were him. THEN, it was the extended version. Thank you, Tool.

46&2: Yes, I knew it was coming, but it still blew me away. Thank you, Tool.

SCHISM: I knew it was also coming, but it also blew me away, especially the sped up bridge. Thank you, Tool.

LK/RS: WOW!!! After reading reviews of this one on this site and others about it being "a bore" live, I was not looking forward to it. BUT, after seeing/hearing it, I must say that you, who said that, are all wrong. This was intense the whole way through. Thank you, Tool.

break... haha... lighters. It was awesome.

Intension/ RIGHT IN TWO: I knew it came down to this, Pushit, or Flood. I would've taken any of them, but now I am really glad they played this one. Cuz now, I will never ever listen to this song the same way again. The album version - you don't realize just how heavy, loud, and intense this one gets. just... Holy Crap. It was awesome. Thank you, Tool.

WINGS/10,000 DAYS: Once again, the crowd disappointed me. Maynard asked politely for flash cameras to not be used... several times in fact. Even during the song, as the end of Pt 1. That's all he asked, and it was just for this ONE song throughout the WHOLE show. And why is that? Because it's the most personal, emotional song he has ever had to do, and to satisfy people like us, he does it almost night after night. I was really kinda worried he would walk off the stage cuz people still kept using friggin' cameras, with flash. AND, people moshed to it. For one, Tool isn't the "moshing" music. It's experience music, and I can understand it to Rosetta Stoned, Vicarious, maybe even Right In Two, But Wings/10,000 Days? WHY? It's annoying.

Anyway, aside from dum-dums: Wings/10,000 Days was absolutely amazing. This, just like RIT, is far more loud and emotional than on the album. Even though they are my favs off of the album, seeing them live made them that much better to me. This song multiple climaxes throughout made my night. They could've stopped and I would've been satisfied. BUT, I'm glad they didn't. Thank you, Tool.

LATERALUS: In general, was the best performance as far as being heavy, loud, intense and energetic all the way through. I thought my clothes were gonna fall right off my body because of this song. Only Tool can do music like this and do it right. Melt Banana came out with them and EVERYONE had a lot of fun and you could tell. And I kinda kept track, I think Maynard won War. It was a HUGE song. Thank you, Tool (and Melt Banana for coming out and jamming with them on this).

VICARIOUS: coming to the show, I figured this would be the closer. I wasn't too excited about it because I could not possibly see this as being a good closing song. I am so glad I'm wrong three times a year. This marks my second time of being wrong and it's only June. Vicarious was amazing and works great as a closer. I can't believe how awesome this one was. Thank you, Tool.

Melt Banana: A-

The Crowd: C

Music: A++++++
Sound: A
Visuals (lights, vids, backdrop, lazer show): A+++++
Tool (overall): A+++++++++++

Everything about the night was great. If I had to go through all the ignorance and stupidity of the crowd again for the experience again, I would with a smile on my face. It was amazing, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Thank you, Tool, for putting up with us and still bringing the best show to the table.

oh, and if that girl is someone on here, cool. She got taken over the gate by the gaurds around the Schism/Rosetta - somewhere in there. haha. she was cool.

Tool was awesome.

Thank you. This was just another responsive review.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

"I could see why you threw this up here, I mean look at it..." (tosses to floor then smashes with mic stand a minute later)

like its been said, thanks to CD asshat we got the back all night which is too bad: during Jambi and opening of Stinkfist Maynard was quite active(i liked the donkey kicks during Stinkfist.)

anyways, the boys played well, wasn't the worst sounding show I've seen(the sound at the Orpheum in MPLS last year was worse) and the crowd sucked about 50% of the time on the floor. eventually the meatheads got together and had a pit stage right in front of Justin and let us in the middle center of the floor somewhat alone to groove.

I had high hopes for the crowd before the show as the floor was populated with quite a few girls/women so i thought the meatheads might take it easy. nope. oh, well.

Having never seen Right in Two live before I am happy that I got to see it: it is much more intense live and the visuals were great. (really hoping for a Flood in St. Paul next week now)

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

just to bring this to attention for the record, Maynard did not have his back to the us the Whole time. Most, yes, he seemed to really get back into it for Lateralus and Vicarious. Those two songs seemed to get him back into the mood, and he seemed to really enjoy doing those two songs a lot.

Also, when one of the performers turns their back to the crowd, it does not automatically mean discontent. Sometimes it means, this is a part where you should look somewhere else - like to Danny cuz he's awesome at what he does even though he does have to ice his arm. Or, I need to consentrate on this part so I'll turn around. or, what's going on back here? haha... i like that one. People take that gesture as disrespect way too much and often, when most of the time - that's not the case. But, then again, Maynard did seem a little upset after the CD.

Take care, all.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

this was my first Tool show ever. No damned complaints! I enjoyed every bit of it other than the moron who threw the cd onstage. Thanks for disrespecting Maynard you beligerent asshole. Tool put on an excellent show. I dont care if Maynard had his back to us. That to me, is him expressing that it is not him we should be worried about. Its the music he wants us to pay attention to. From the beginning I was absorbed by the music of the legendary Tool. I loved every second of it. I could go on for hours about how I came out of the arena a different person with a new respect for the hell I am going through right now. The setlist was awesome, though I wouldnt mind hearing Tool play every song hahaha!! I think jambi was my most admired song of the night due to my current situation in life. Thank you TOOL for the best concert of my life, ever! Ive been to at least 100 shows in my life, never seen Tool, and when i did, they blew everything else away. This is not just me saying this, ive never put a review for any other concert until now. I am still getting chills thinking of my first, but surely not last, Tool show. Once again Thank you Maynard, Adam, Justin, and Danny. You are truly and absolutely the most intriguing band performing in this day of garbage music. "Tool is profoundly resistant to simple definition, and to compare them to anyone would be rediculously out of mind. Thats my opinion

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

This was my second Tool show (the first having been the show at the Allstate in September), and as of right now I'm undecided over which show I thought was better.

I was a bit disappointed they didn't do The Pot, and I really would have loved to hear some of their older stuff (namely Opiate), but I was very surprised and happy to hear them play Right In Two - I didn't expect that and it was simply amazing live. Wings/10,000 Days was once again insanely awesome live, and I'm just pissed that idiots in the crowd messed it up. Jambi was a great opener, and after seeing that one live twice the middle instrumental part will forever be the "crazy cowboy hat dance" in my head. Lateralus was again the highlight of the night for me.

The sound in the Civic Center was definitely crap, there were a lot of times where it was hard to hear Maynard's singing. Definitely worse than the Allstate with that.

But the crowd...oh, most of the crowd sucked. Not all, mind, there were a lot of cool people. But most of the people on the floor were idiots. My friends and I were right at the barricade, so at least we didn't have to worry about getting trampled by people trying to rush to the front. But hey, you know, I don't appreciate things like people pulling my hair to try and get me off the barricade so they can steal my spot, don't appreciate someone spending 20 minutes digging their elbow into my shoulder to try and push me away, and wasn't too fond of the fact that I couldn't breathe half the show because I was crushed against the barricade. I was downright embarrassed when Melt Banana was playing because of the assholes behind us shouting for them to get off the stage and to go home. And that pit that people made right in front of Justin that the_shrike29 mentioned? Yeah, that was right behind where we were. I definitely would have enjoyed the show much more if not for the idiots that were all around me. I also am very surprised that I managed to go the show without being kicked in the head or having lost my glasses due to the fact that about five times people were pulled out of the crowd right over my head. Being asked to flash our boobs by some drunken idiots as we were leaving was definitely a lowpoint as well.

And of course, the way people being idiots pissed off Maynard and the band rather pissed me off as well. I mean, really, people go to concerts to have fun, but whatever happened to self-control and not making an ass of yourself. The throwing of the CD on stage and then using cameras (which you're not supposed to have in there) - yeah, nice going on messing up the concert, jackasses.

But despite all that? The show was great, and I had a good time. Melt Banana was cool and Tool was awesome. Not entirely sure I'll ever want to go back to Peoria for a concert again, though.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

I've gone to two in Chicago and none of them were even relatively similar to what I saw last night. If you think it was a “great show” you obviously don’t have much to compare it to. I was hesitant to go to Peoria because it's such a different atmosphere from what I'm used to. I was to the left of the stage Sec 2 Row 10 and I could see Maynard's anger rising I think. He was pisssssed I've always heard about him getting angry about people fucking with his stage and walking off or something of that sort and am sad that I had to experience it because as a real Tool fan you know to respect them and just enjoy the music. I was praying for Pushit but didn't get my wish. Sorta knew that was coming after some idiot threw something? on stage. A note maybe? Everyone says cd and I didn't see that. Clearly a great representation of what Peoria consists of. You could feel the excitement draining out of them as soon as this happened. I heard him say something like I can sing if you'd like and then stopped. He started with a Hello and was dancing and having fun like normal up until someone threw shit on stage. And if I had to hear Maynnnard come out you little [insert clever trash talk here] one more time I would have started round housing my entire section. I hope all the people that are sitting at home thinking how shitty the concert was realize what they really missed out on, because half of them were waiting for The Pot to play, funny that that’s the only Tool song they know. (Had one of those sitting next to me and about lost it) Peoria is full of people who say they like Tool but really have no idea what’s behind it. Nothing against the real fans, but come on why else would the show have gone the way it did? Adam seemed into it he always just stands and plays, the entire show made me nervous that Maynard was going to walk off. Every time he walked backstage I held my breath for him to come back. I highly doubt he left Peoria that night thinking a single pleasant thought about the place. Serves the crowd right for being idiots. I could have stayed home and listened to my cd's. Had to give it a chance tho, 46 and 2 & Wings/10,000Days was worth it. I agree with the previous posts about how no one understood how great of a song(s) it is. Slow or not it rocks. And seeing Maynard gyrate in person will never get old. Usually Maynard’s vocals sound exactly as they do on the albums but that wasn’t the case this time. I wondered if they were trying to play too loud on purpose just to wave the finger at the crowd. For once Maynard wasn't the main attraction at the concert, Danny's energy and enthusiasm was my highlight. Justin astounds me every time I see him. I want to know who threw shit up there and who thought it'd be a great idea to continue taking pictures after he politely asked them not to & ask for my money back, then go fight club on their ass. The guys aren't snobs (as I also heard this) they just want respect and Peoria did NOT deliver that. The only thing to compare the show to is having sex without an orgasm. It was good but nothing to what you'd normally see out of those guys. They mesh so amazingly well together and it's sad that a portion of people there were utterly toooo drunk/ignorant/horny to realize that

Back home in South Dakota. (Where people don't throw shit on stage!) I was understandably disappointed at this show as it was my 25th birthday and as already mentioned by me, and several others, some douche decided to toss his demo onstage. The rest I suppose is history. Maynards back was to the audience blah blah blah...

I thought the Civic Centre sounded okay all in all, and the show even in spite of the CD thrower, was pretty all right. Right in Two was nice, and the band did rock it out. Long trip and I'm glad to be home safe and sound. Great fucking experience all together, and also a pretty awesome 25th birthday. See ya'll at another show.

Peace the fuck Out*

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

A day late and a dollar short, Well 4 days late.
So I witnessed the peoria show against one of the highest walls, it was a nice eagle eye of the whole event. I was not sure about what the thowing of things on stage was and all that jazz, but to be honest I could have given two flying figs less. I just sat back and absorbed the sound. I let the sound distract me, not the fans. Oh yes, I heard some bitchin, and some moaning there, but they clearly won because I am hearing some bitchin and moaning in here. I found it interesting that War was the choice of card games, it was very conducive to the overall atmospher-fast paced, aggressive, but over very quickly. But back to the main thing at hand, the experience. It was good. Both bands brought to the table what they could that night. They worked with their mediums and the environment as much as they possibly could. So thankyou Bannnannananann Melters for display of passion. Thankyou Boys for putting on a show, because at the end of the day that is all it is. And thank you boys for going out there night after night and playing the same damn songs for months on end. To reproduce the same piece of art over and over again is daunting and also cumbersome with past events- that takes a certain kind of Will. Sincere Graditude for your display of life struggles and victories put into sound is out there. Hats off for playing a game that can only be won when you walk away. Thanks for the show :)

Thankyou

Someone, (not me,) posted a video of this concert on youtube. It's during Stinkfist and you can see Maynard come down and grab the CD and basically make out what he says to the crowd. With the exception of the fact that he stops singing for the 2nd verse it's also a pretty decent jam of Stinkfist.

it's worth checking out.

Also wanted to mention that I enjoyed watching Maynard and the singer from Melt Banana play cards during Lateralus. Added a bit of humor to a tense show.

Loved Right in Two and the light show was amazing but this is the last time I'm goin to a show in a hockey rink. We were up in the back so no drunk assholes to mess with us and we could smoke at will, so we did. The sound was for shit though, couldn't hear Maynard half the time, and I hate to say it but, yeah, my hometown is full of redneck fools who don't get it.
I hadn't been to the Civic Center for a show in years and I'm thinkin that was probly the last time.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

This had to be the worst tool concert of the tour. The reason wasnt the band, but the crowd that was there. I drove 3 hrs to get to this town and when I got thier I swore that I was in the movie diliverence. The opening band was pretty bad, but the worst were the people. When my wife and I went to get our seats there were two teenage girls sitting in them. We told them that these were ours seats and the older guys that were sitting to the right of us were disappointed that they didnt get the girls numbers. The row of guys to the left of me were all smoking cigarettes and were holdering the same beers all night. The women in front of me was dancing to jambi like it was a hillery duff concert. To top it off the jerk behind me asked me to sit down because he couldnt see the stage. Im sorry tool isnt a baseball game idiot. The guys were pretty good, though the acoustics in the center were not.

Was there...4th row lower seating
In summary, the show was amazing. Very much better than I thought It would be which is defiantly saying something because I had HUGE expectations from the golden crown of my music preferences.
Yes, Maynard got pissed because some ass threw a CD on stage...(why would you even? he gonna sign it and throw it back to you? I THINK NOT)...
REGARDLESS, it was amazing, all lights and lasers were in amazing sync with the ridiculously technical and complicated music. All that, in conjunction with the multiple projectors playing some of the most psychedelic images you'll ever see, made the show completely saturate ever multiple senses and left you wondering just what exactly it was you just experienced.
I wouldn't go on some mindless crusade saying that Maynard now despises Peoria...there's gonna be those assholes (like the one's who throw stuff on stage) wherever you go.

I agree, this definitely won't be my last show. I hope I can hear Maynard next time.

Crowd wasn't terrible for me, but maybe that's because I convinced myself that it would be like that on the floor. I expected some shoving, and I'll admit, I shoved back when some jackass tried to get in front of me.

Re: 2007/06/20 - Peoria, IL - Peoria Civic Center

When that retard threw a CD on stage during "Stinkfist" Maynard said, "you want me to pay attention to this instead of sing? I mean I can sing if you want, it's up to you". Then he jumped back into "Stinkfist" without losing a beat.
