Has this been posted?
Anyway, I went to the Alex Grey talk on Friday and he said that Rosetta Stoned was about a friend of the band's who went out camping near Area51, took some acid, tripped, woke up and found himself covered in shit in his sleeping bag, and was weirded out by the whole thing. This probably sheds zero light on the song (it didn't to me when he told this story) but I thought someone might be interested anyway.
Good night.

It was a good evening, Alex is an amusing chap. I wonder whether this 'friend' was...him.
Plenty of aliens in the Cosmic Christ painting.

The friend is probably Blair. Seriously, if you read the Tool newsletter archives you will see he goes there to camp.

That might be a hoax. The phrase "shit the bed" is one I've heard for many years, it is either used to express amazement (Kobe scored 50? Well, shit the bed!) or to acknowledge a mistake (I forgot my pen. Shit the bed again! Typical!).

good call...a little evidence for the jury. I'd shit the bed if the song was literally about somebody that shit the bed. If anybody can prove it is though lemme know so I can put the rubber sheets on the bed.
You've left me no choice but to go inside and rebuild

I think "Shit the bed" is used in both ways in the song.

after rereading the March newsletter i have come to the conclusion that what Mr. Alex Grey is talking about is truth...
take a look at this line for example at the end of the March Newsletter:
"And now, Dave, too, was dialing in wave-lengths. But I had to wonder whether or not if he ever managed to separate the true vibrations from the discords if someone would have to change him like a baby."
maybe im reading too deep into it, but immediatley i thought of how babies shit themselves, and that blair is hinting at how dave shit himself. seems like something blair would do.
