Number 4 on the UK charts. The top 3 are really shitty, though.

According to the ARIA charts 10,000 Days sold in excess of 70,000 copies in the first week here with Pearl Jam coming in second with 35,000+ copies. I bought both on the same day but Pearl Jam has yet to hit my CD player haven't taken 10,000 Days out yet :-)

I wonder how long it'll take to drop down the charts. I know Jet's, and Pete Murray's albums both stuck around in the charts for 70+ weeks because they got constant radio attention. My guess is from now on sales will trickle in. It's still good to see them getting up there. I'll post the write up which The Herald Sun gives in their chart summary... They didn't give it a particularly good review last week. Said the songs were too long. I wrote them a letter informing them that they are ***gots.

UK: #4

Germany: #3

Italy: #4

I'll edit with more results as they'll come up.

(in Europe Pearl Jam is selling less than Tool anyway).

Number 1 and platinum. Pretty sure this is Tools biggest debut in New Zealand. Thats 15,000+ copies sold. Pearl Jam only sold 7,500+.
Yes we have pitiful sales amounts for certification but the population is only around 4 million so do the math.

Just checked the old charts, Lateralus debuted No.2 Gold or 7.500 copies back in 2001.

they definitely seemed to be taking over a lot of markets that were
somewhat closed before. the album looks like if it is doing great all over
which is wonderful :)

Being that NZ buys the most Tool albums per capita I wouldn't call it a closed market, but this debut will strengthen their posistion.

No he's right - it is a closed market. Up until last year all we had were sheepskin drums and hobbit songs.

(And half of us watch american idol, which is just sad)

Lateralus went straight to 16th in Finland so I think they will not get the first place this time, but top 5 for sure. Tool is #1 on cdon.com sales though...in every nordic country.

RHCP and Poets of the fall might sell more unfortunately.

I would have a huge orgasm if Tool got to number 1 on radio1 charts next week.
They deserve to be known by the masses.
Many of my friends didnt even know how popular tool actually are until I mentioned they were number 4.

When they release "The Pot" as a single, things will explode. It has a funkiness to it that appeals to the average listener.

This is true. It's going to haunt people and they are forced to buy the album. Amazing song really, makes me want to dance and I absolutely hate dancing. Especially in the end when the groove really kicks in, it's irresistable

Portugal should check the calendar. It's 2006. Not 199x.

Not bad if you ask me. Tool isn't exactly as prominent in a lot of countries as they are in others.

Pearl Jam at #1? wow... that was a surprise though.

#6 isn't bad, Pearl Jam are huge here so #1 is understandable.
We get to see both bands live, Tool on the 26th and Pearl Jam in September.
Tool are headlining the second day of The Super Rock festival, other bands playing that night are Primitive Reason, Placebo, Alice in Chains and Deftones, should be a great night.

Agência Lusa (news agency) - National Service

The new Pearl Jam album has gone directly to the top of the best selling album charts this week, overthrowing the portuguese band Moonspell, announced the Associação Fonográfica Portuguesa (an offical music association) today.

Another newcomers are Tool, with "10,000 Days" at the 6th place, and Dragões Campeões with "Triunfo do Dragão" in the 11th place. (this is a football chants album from the League winners F.C. Porto... these things always sell like hell when the league is over...)

From the charts albums only two are platinum records, being all beneath the 12th place.

The first album of Il Divo, at the 21st place, holds the record of presence on the chart with 53 weeks.

Another re-entrance is Michael Bublue to the 29th place.

Here is the list of the best selling albums:

1º (New) "Pearl Jam" - Pearl Jam
2º (8º) - "Vida" - Paulo de Carvalho
3º (13º) - "A história de António Variações" - António Variações
4º (4º) - "Paulo Gonzo" - Paulo Gonzo
5º (2º) - "Beautiful intentions" - Melanie C
6º (New) - "10.000 days" - Tool
