Anyway, I never heard anything like that and my own interpretation is not even close to that. It could be true though, as in MJK wrote it. ;) but personally I don't think it's true (I hope so...)
Okay, just to ease your mind I don't think you should take everything that Tool have to say literally... A quick trip to the tdn faq will help you...
Quote:
F28. 4 Degrees... why four? Fahrenheit? Celsius? Is it an angle?
The theories abound like rabbits multiplying; someone asked Maynard about it and got this reply:
"Apparently the anal cavity has 8 more working muscles and is 4 degrees warmer than the vagina. This, however, is NOT a song about violation. It is a song about opening up, completely, without reservation."
So just keep in mind to take most of the things you hear, read or see with a grain of salt...

A Note About Salt
It is worth mentioning that much of what Tool says, you need to take with a HUGE grain of salt. A lot of it is made up (an interview hinting at 24-minute songs, and an April Fools' prank about a highway accident come to mind), so be careful when you choose to believe something you are being told. If anything, it is probably a good reminder that we should exercise our best judgment and not be sheep in the herd. (One of Tool's main messages seems to be that people need to think for themselves more.) After all, the falsehoods are usually well told, but do tend to seem a bit peculiarly off-the-wall. Best of luck.
[This note was quoted in the Official Lollapalooza 1997 Magazine.]
Putting all this aside I think 4 degrees is personally about opening up and allowing new ideas and thoughts to enter you... Instead of just feeding, living and draining the world around you... The suffocating that is mentioned in the song...
But as was said, theories abound in regards to the song... Recommend you manifest your own based on everyone elses and then go with it...

yes, i heard somewhere that maynard's explaination to this song was that the anus of a woman is 4 degrees warmer than the vagina...true?
yeah,i'd say it's a pretty safe assumption that the title is a reference to that, given maynard's alleged obsession with anal intercourse.the whole "ass sex" theme of the song, however, can easily be seen as a metaphor for something else.though i do prefer to think that it's simply a song about wanting to fuck someone in the ass,it's just so much more fun that way."let's go diiigging, let's go diiigging",heh.ahhh,it's so great that they let you curse all you want here, you can really let loose.

Me too I'd like to think the song is about anal as well.
