RATED FIFTH BEST DRUM SOLO IN ROCK SONG
As I'm sure most drummers are aware.....this song was rated #5 for best drum solo in a rock song. This song isn't just great for the drumming alone, but I believe it's a flashback to Undertow. It has that same raw emotion.
Another interesting note is that Dan Carey has been quoted as saying that if he had a weakness on drums, it would be his double kick ability. Funny, but I wonder if he was joking when I listen to this tune. His double kick ability is simply tight. Any other thoughts?

Good question.
I know one of the 4 is Bonham's Moby Dick. Not sure about the other 3. I'll get back to you on that.

Oh I agree, but seriously....the whole second half of Ticks & Leeches is a drum solo. IMO, the creativity of it is a little more complicated than the 46 & 2 solo. I'd have to agree that 46 & 2 is a better song all around, though.

The ending of The Grudge should be #1 IMO. Best solo by DC .

I don't think there's a drummer out there that utilizes his kit better than DC. Every song has it's own "fingerprint".
I don't think DC has his own particular style....other than hitting hard and tight in odd time signatures. He seems to cover a lot of different styles in his playing. After all, he has a huge list of influences when it comes to the drums.
Now that I think of it, I take that back. He does have the style of being one of the only drummers to make the snare sound good with snares off. My favorite with snares off has to be Schism. It just fits the whole mood of the song and accents Justin's bass line perfectly. One of my favorites by far.
DC's snares off drumming is definitely a signature in most of Tool's music.

i think the way he carries his momentum and uses expression with different sounding cymbals is his best quality.

Interesting.....
I haven't heard the Mike Giles one. I'll give that a listen. We're still missing one though. I'm guessing it's a Neil Peart solo......maybe.

Wish they would have mentioned the other 4. Would've been interesting to see what company they threw DC in with.

Can't argue with that. Maybe back in the day Peart could've been close with him, but DC hits way harder and still keeps the accuracy and tightness. Not to mention his odd time changes.
Ya, you're right. Can't carry DC's sticks....LOL.

#4 gotta be Neil Peart.
I agree with you guys, he can't touch Danny, but definitely better than Giles on 21st Schizoid.
Probably YYZ.
Neil seems to have lost it after having had his wife and daughter both die on him in the same year. Sad story that dude has.
Gotta admit he's pretty good for a Canadian, haha...
Since they seem to be going for classic rock - longshot could be Mitch Mitchell.

Yeah, this whole thing is sort of ridiculous. Ticks and leeches is a great song (drumwise), but then again most every Tool song is. Come on, they could have done better.

Out of all the non-Tool songs I listen to that could probably pull a "top drumming" award, Bozzio's "Black Page" nails it. Hirst's performance on "Bedlam Bridge" is pretty good at times, too, but it lacks solos, and this asks for a solo.

Way better than the Mike Portnoy vs. Dan Carey drum-off.
