Re: Expectations of live shows?

Nah, I dont get up to Dallas, I hate it there. The only cool thing I have witnessed in dallas was Deep Ellum, and I hear that it is overgrown with trash now. Houston has grown on me quite a bit, but I dont think it's enough to be proud to be from here yet.

Streams of consciousness displayed in a thread are not inherently bad. It's when those streams turn into elementary school is when it's a problem.

Yeah, Deep Ellum sucks now. All that money they were going to 'invest' there I think they just bought a bunch of trash and broken down cars to line the street. Plus the crime there is getting really bad. Trees still continues to be the shit though. I've got family in Houston, that place has changed a LOT, my wife and I are talking about 'traveling' with Tool when they come through the Texas/OK region. We want to see Tool from some different venues, to experience how the shows/crowds change from town to town, maybe we'll run into you down there.

Re: Expectations of live shows?

[QUOTE=Garguantua]I understand he doesn't like to play in front of Danny's drums because of the volumes they play at. Plus, Maynard hates bright, flashing lights, so I think he'll be in darkness again. Probably behind everyone's backline , so he's able to hear himself and he doesn't have any stagewash from Adam and Danny and Justin.QUOTE]

Maybe he could also have a butler stand next to him the entire time and pour him glasses of Nagual de la Naga. BTW has anyone been to www.merkinvineyards.com anytime soon? It has a bitchin new design and cool opening flash animation where cadeuceus vines wrap around a stone pillar that forms a "T". A raven then lands on it. Still utilizing the Flower of Life symbolism I see. Some interesting music added as well. More subdued Buddhist mantric chanting. Wonder who wrote the piece and recorded it.

no expectations, just an open mind, and possibly a blunt or two

edit: However it would be cool to perform in front of Danny's drums like he did in the old days (although it WILL never happen)

Re: Expectations of live shows?

I've seen Tool 9 times (7 Lateralus, 2 aenima) and the difference bettween those tours are rather big. As such I wouldn't expect to many things to carry over. The visuals will stay but I don't think much will stay the same from a stage aspect. I would think Tool will play much less Lateralus stuff, as it was stressed so heavily last time more so then Aenima was on the Aenima tours. Just my 2 cents.

dream setlist

ok guys, I don't know where to put this since there is no tour section on these boards. Anyway, I'm going to Coachella and I want to know what your dream setlist would be for the best damn festival. Lets say 2-3 10k songs, then pick your 3 songs from Lateralus, 3 from Aenima, 1 from undertow and 1 from Opiate.

mine would be

Opiate
Undertow
H
4 degrees (one of the few songs I have not heard them play live)
Third Eye
Lateralus
Parabola
The Grudge
and the 2-3 new songs.

That would be awesome if they closed with Lateralus again, my favorite tool live song.

Hey, Flux, quick question. I recently moved to Houston and I know from reading a few reviews Tool has played at the Compaq Center. Well that's been turned into Lakewood Church now... What other venues have they/might they play?

Re: Ideal setlist

Most of you are making great set lists, but i think you're totally pissing on the new album. The set ought to be about 60% the new album and 40% old stuff. It's not the way I like it either, but the times they did the grudge, parabol/parabola, schism, lateralus, disposition/reflection/triad and some stuff from Aenima, Undertow and Opiate during one show are GONE. I wouldn't be surprised if they chose to do all of 10000 Days minus Lipan Conjuring & Viginti Tres and just added one random song off the rest of the albus, like Opiate, Sober, Aenima and Schism... It'd hurt, but that's what I'm ready for.
That being said, my "realistic" set list would be:

Vicarious
Stinkfist/Prison Sex
Jambi
46 & 2
Jerk-off/Hush/Opiate
The Pot
Schism

That's around 45 minutes.

---INTERMISSION---

Wings For Marie (Pt. 1)
10 000 Days (Pt. 2)
Sober/Intolerance/Undertow
Aenema
Lateralus
Intension
Right In Two

Around 55 minutes.

50/50 - 7 out of 14 songs are of 10 000 Days. This is the one I'd be satisfied with, being realistic and all ;)

Dunno if this turns out accurate for the show here, but I'm close to being convinced they won't do Lost Keys & Rosetta Stoned for sure. Not because I don't like them, I just don't believe they could pull off the atmosphere. Would be tough. And the conversation would have to be played, which might seem kinda lame, Dunno.

Tool Live - 'Perfect' Setlists:

Hey,

This may be in the wrong section, but here are my rules:

You have to choose 12 (no more, no less) songs that Tool will play live on tour for a particular show. Just choose the 12 best, most appropriate songs you can think of. There is no right or wrong, each to their own etc. Include whatever tracks you like whether old, new, covers whatever. Just no stupid stuff...

For example:

Vicarious
Jambi
Stinkfist
Eulogy
The Pot
Schism
Sober
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned
--- short break ---
Wings For Marie/10,000 Days
Aenima
Lateralus
Right In Two

Just put down what you think would be the PERFECT setlist for the new tour...
