Seems to get unlikely with every passing day. There's a newsletter due out shortly, so maybe they're waiting for that. Also, I suspect if there are shows they may hold off announcing while Puscifer tickets have just gone on sale.

anyone read the interview with video producer? some interesting comments, most notably about the new production/work going into this one show.
does it mean just new video stuff? maybe an entirely new stage altogether?
the visual/stage aspect of the show has remained (fairly) consistent since 2006

The dude is most certainly suggesting a tour or additional shows, but who knows with regards to timing.
BMB: What are the usual preparations for putting together and syncing up the video design for a Tool show or tour? How long does it normally take before you are good to go?
BRECK: The prep time depends on how much the show needs to change. When we made big leaps in design like with a new album, it can take months. If we're just on to another leg with the same design, it may only take a day. This time around, we're starting with a new overall concept from Adam, and we're going to re-work the entire thing, so we're starting to build the Halloween show now.
BMB: Let's talk about upcoming Tool shows and tours? Without going into specific details, what might fans expect as far as the stage lighting and video projections during the next round of touring? Also, will there be a separate lighting/projections scheme for indoor shows and outdoor festivals?
BRECK: We are planning to split the show for indoor and outdoor. No longer will outdoor shows be watered-down versions of the arena show. The outdoor Halloween show will be the first of our dedicated festival show.

I wouldn't read too much into the comments in that interview.
The main point is that we (production) are looking at the most recent run of shows 16 months ago as what we consider to be the last that are tied to "10,000 Days". Technology changes quickly in the lighting and video world, and we were still hanging on to some bits that dated back to 2006. There is a big enough time gap since April 2014 that we decided it was time to start over.
There is no "known" time that a tour for the next album will start. Once that gets established we will start working on a new "Tool indoor show" for their own tour.
What we have started working on is something that we've never had, which is a "festival specific" production that is designed to fit a festival/outdoor space. There are many effects and production items that work well indoors that just don't look right outdoors, or aren't safe/viable because of weather and other factors. Festival appearances aren't going away, so rather than try to make our arena show fit into a festival environment every time we are just going to have 2 separate experiences. There are also things we can do on a festival stage that don't work in an arena, so we are concentrating on the positives for each environment to make 2 unique productions.
That said, this Tempe show seemed like as good of a show as any to get started on this "outdoor" concept. It will probably expand and grow (as the arena production has traditionally done) as more outdoor shows get added, so Tempe won't be a set-in-stone "Outdoor Tool" show, but more of a springboard for the future. The next outdoor show might not be for some time, but this will be the blueprint for that kind of show going forward.
It's ambitious, but since we actually had a good amount of lead-in time for this show it seemed we might as well go for it.
With the "outdoor" version underway, all that's been done for a new "indoor" show is discuss that there will be one, at some point. There are some concepts that have been discussed with band members, but nothing substantial beyond that.

Hopefully Tool can still be both a festival and and indoor band. Tool are increasing approaching the "nostalgia band" era (some would argue they're probably already there) and here in Australia at least, this generally means plenty of festival offers (there are rumours suggesting they could be doing Soundwave, though I don't buy it just yet). On top of that there are plenty of rumour suggesting they will be hitting the European festival circuit in 2016. Seeing them on Lollapoalooza and other festivals in the US wouldn't be a huge surprise either (though I'd expect there would be a new album before we seeing Tool appear on a large number of festivals).
While I've enjoyed Tool in a festival setting, and am quite curious to see what a festival stage would entail for them, my fondest memories of the band are those set indoors, where the lighting and video to me seemed to have its biggest impact.

Festivals were once a great way to see a collection of bands that don't normally play to large crowds on their own, and thus don't really have a "production" per se. As festivals started signing bigger acts, the production values went up, and bands often wanted to control that aspect, with mixed results.
In my experiences, with a number of arena acts playing occasional festival dates, I've never been satisfied with all of the compromises that have to get made to "the show". Sometimes you get to spend some extra time on it and get everything you normally have (Tool at Bonnaroo in 2007, for example), but usually not.
What we are hoping to achieve is to approach festivals/amphitheaters as a different animal than an arena and go in with something tailored to that kind of stage.
It could be a failure, but so could shoehorning an arena show into a festival stage. We're hoping the effort pays off.

I just wanted to say how awesome it is to have someone like Junior here to give us this kind of insight. Truly, sir, thank you for sharing with us what you can. I also have to mention the Bonnaroo show since you brought it up. Can you elaborate at all on what you meant by "getting to spend extra time on it" and "get everything you normally have"? I was in the pit for that show and definitely consider it one of the top 3 shows I've seen.

I think it's just a wide open park-type deal.
It would really just come down to personal preference, I suppose.
Some people like to be close, and others like to be back a bit.
I'm usually more of the "back a bit" crowd, in general.

At a lot of festivals, you end up using whatever the festival decided to put up, and if you are the headliner you might add some of your touring elements to the setup.
For Bonnaroo, we had the luxury of going in a day before and putting up our entire production. They accommodated us by leaving most of their stuff packed away and out of our way so we could do that.
After Tool was done playing, and we took all of our stuff down, the festival came in and hung all of their stuff for the rest of the weekend.

I figured as much but thanks for the input again! Since I have only seen Tool close up once (did the VIP in Az.) and was in front row but in a bad area/angle, so I feel I have to redeem it being close up at least one more time, so we'll see. Security there was actually cool and pointed out things I would never had noticed like the same projections on screen displayed in the indoor arena towards the back ceiling as well as with things that go on with the lasers. But usually right in your area is where I get tickets for Tool shows, figure by the soundboard going to get the best sound for the concert, plus its cool seeing you guys do your thing too, props.

In my experience, the further back you stand at a festival, the more crowd talking you hear. Yes, at any type of concert you can get people talking, but at festivals it is overwhelming. I don't know if that is something that you care about, but personally I cannot stand a bunch of people around me talking while trying to watch a band's set. So I try to get to a distance close enough to the stage where everyone is eager to watch and listen to the band as well. Tool is big enough that you might be able to stand back enough to see the entire stage production without too man people talking. But standing back too far you will hear a lot of crowd chit chat.

I have a MAJOR pet peeve regarding chatter at shows. I was a actually telling peeps to "shut it" during Intension at Red Rocks. Some fools are there for the scene (and the hits.)

The new Iron Maiden record is amazing. Very challenging and diverse.

Hi all or anyone around here.
I missed my chance to get tickets for the Tool show on 10/31/15. We I went to buy lst night it shows its sold out!
So now I have airline tickets booked and hotel room booked but no tickets!
If anyone has 2 they may not use Please let me know and can purchse right away. Not looking forward to paying $600 on the secondary market.
You can see one of my last posts here was for an extra ticket I had for the last show I went to and sold at Face value. Real Tool fan here just looking to go see my favorite band.
Thanks
Danny

If I wasn't already going to New Orleans and Voodoo Fest - I'd be there in a heartbeat. (Halloween weekend in The Big Easy is not to be missed.)
Do you think that Tool Nation was holding out for more (non fest) shows??
