Dissolving and reforming so quickly I seem only to flicker.
Can't wait for this! Already sounds like a pretty good gathering of various forum friends is forming to meet up.
Thinking back, The Pearl shows are definitely among my fondest memories of seeing Tool live. The before and after drinks probably shaved some years off my life... and liver (looking at my Canadian friends Ryan and Jason!), but it was worth it.
Btw, Mandalay does the AAA discount for 10%, so ask for it when you book if you have the card. This brings in a standard room at $59 a night (+tax+their ridiculous automatic room charges).
I've been to CES 4x. You posting this reminded me it was there around the same time as the Tool show. Damn good idea for those of you already attending that can stick around an extra day or two!

All the latest, greatest TVs, stereos, gadgets, gaming consoles you could ever hope to see on display down at the LV convention center. It's not open to the public and you need to register with industry credentials to get in.
The parties can be pretty good. I used to have a friend that worked at Monster Cable and their after-parties were epic. I saw small-room concerts with Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart and George Benson over the span of a few years, all hosted by Monster. Good times!
What I would give to have seen them at the Pearl >_<
I'm making the drive up from LA to go to this show...unfortunately I heard about these shows two days ago when tickets were practically all gone, but I was fortunate enough to still find semi-nosebleeds on TicketBastard. This will be my 8th show. Has anyone ever been to a show here? How big is the place compared to say, Cox in SD?
I drive a Mini Cooper and I have space for two more in the back seat...it would be a little cramped but if anyones desperate for a ride or something I'd be more than willing to let someone hitch with me, no gas charge or anything since obviously I'm going that way anyway! Ill be leaving the day of around 12 and returning that night after the show

It will be my first time at CES. Any insight into what i can expect?

Bring your VERY best walking shoes. If you don't have any, go make the investment now. The show is huge. And don't try to do everything in one day. Spend a day or so in 1-2 halls.
Take the tram over unless you're staying at the Hilton. Do NOT drive there! $30 a day to park.
Panasonic/Toshiba/Samsung typically have good booths. The MS booth always feels a bit jumbled to me but worth a look.
Finally- make the schlep over to the Hilton Sports book sandwich shop called the Super Book Deli. Really good sandwiches, like a pressed Cuban. You'll avoid the sub-par convention food and long lines. And you can drop a bundle on the Lakers while you're there.

Bet on LA, never!! Haha, I'm Spurs fan. I already got the walking shoes. I'm worried about actually making it to the convention. I figured Wednesday (the day I land), is my best bet. I'm a huge panasonic fanboy, so I'm looking forward to that. Two weeks away from TOOL!!!!
I am totally excited! 10 more days... I can not wait to be removed from the world for 2 hours and transported to another atmosphere. ugh, that sounds stupid, but you get my point!

Re: 01.15.12 - Las Vegas, NV
jay, i'll text you sunday morning, i fly in at 930am and we might be staying at the lux too so that'll make it easy to meet up. does anyone have a favorite bar or place to meet on that side of the strip? my memory is a bit hazy...excalibur?

Can someone appoint themselves to PM me with a confirmed meet up spot? I'm trying to not browse too much on toolnavy after Saturday. Should there be a significant setlist surprise, I would prefer to experience it at the show.

Re: 01.15.12 - Las Vegas, NV
star i completely agree...this is gonna be my first spoiler free show, since all i have to do is steer clear of the boards on sat and sun. anyone that wants to meet up just text me and we'll figure it out. that means you too SJC, i'd hate to exclude the underage, we could always convene for a smoke sesh or something...

Oof. Yea was $59 earlier (as noted with AAA card). Wow. I'll get there at Mandalay sometime earlier in day and see if I can sort a decent joint there to meet either before/after and post up.
That was one nice thing about the Pearl. Island bar just outside the venue. DC even came by one time and hung out. Hopefully a similar situation at Mandalay.
It looks like they opened up the two sections directly to the sides of the stage (104/204 & 122/222)and I am speculating even the two sections a little behind the stage (103/203 & 123/223) since they are now in the seating chart. I don't remember these sections being shown in the seating chart when I got my ticket.
The couple of times I searched for tickets this afternoon it showed both 104 and 122. Not the angle I'd prefer but it is a ticket.
