Well looks like I can give ya praise tonight Junior, just got floor right in front of mix. Would say awesome show last night but got 86! Not because of camera either, just insufferable people happen to show up at times and unfortunately we were the ones booted! Anyways, best behavior (lol), great vibes, and excited for tonight!

The whole new album live would be exciting.
In reverse order, peppered with a few other rarities. That'd be killer.

a “whole album” show is a lot to ask of any band, seems fairly uncommon

Very uncommon for new albums, that's for sure. That said I reckon they should be playing at least one more new song. Given that we've had 10 years of greatest hits tours, I'm not sure how many need to see the same old tracks again.

Last time I saw a band play a whole new album live was Porno For Pyros in 1993
They played the whole album in order. The album had just came out a month earlier. Flaming Lips was the opener.
It was quite the evening!

Primus and Mastodon have done full album tours. There are only 6 songs on this album. I get that it's unlikely, but that's why it would be exciting. Impressive. Thrilling.
Maynard did it with APC.

I didn't see this asked or mentioned, but have poster tubes been allowed in/sold at merch with the posters this tour?

I had a blast! Great audio visual experience.
Dont know why, but I found it kind of amazing they can fix the star to the ceiling then project things onto it. Also liked the projections on the speakers, gave things more depth.

I'll get to reviews for VIP last couple of nights later. Need to do some actual work today... not to mention the combo of the fogger pointed right at me for last night's show and Danny's kick drum over two nights is making me feel like I was hit by a truck.

They include plastic sleeves with posters at merch stand, but did not sell tubes. They did let people bring them in both nights in LA. Have a feeling that rule will be specific to each venue.

You sure you didn't just have them set on vibrate?

Great show for sure especially if you haven't seen them too many times before. My sister's first show will be in NC in November and its going to blow her mind.

Here is a decent write up on the VIP experience from one of the folks just ahead of me in line night 2
https://www.reddit.com/r/ToolBand/co...ience_rundown/
I don't think it's entirely accurate as far as how tickets were distributed and some other minor details, but it is very close to how it is.
I will add that although it was initially great to have dead center, front row on night 1, Staples acoustics and the fact that Danny was square in front me were pretty tough to take about an hour into the show. I preferred being over to the side in front of Adam on night 2.
I also think putting VIP attendees in a room that normally sells beer/wine, taking away your cell phone, then asking you to sit in that room for close to 2 hours is not ideal. Also, they were charging $6 for water and $7 for soda in the room (the two beverages they were selling). A solution for this is to give folks a single drink ticket for one free beverage as part of the VIP package, be it beer/wine or water/soda.
One other note on VIP - on day 2, just before we were ushered to the hallway outside the stairs down to soundcheck, we were told by our guide NOT to clap while still in the hallway for any songs we heard (aka songs they were doing with Maynard). We did clap from the hallway on day 1 after Intolerance was performed and apparently this annoyed someone(s). So, when we were finally lead downstairs to watch the soundcheck in person on day 2 with Danny, Adam and Justin doing FI, the song ended and no one clapped. Adam looked out at us, incredulous, threw his hands up and said "this is where you clap". We all protested that we were told NOT to clap but we were not sure if that meant once we were downstairs too. An awkward moment for sure!

I think it's a bit shoddy tbh. Given that soft drinks and water cost effectively bugger all, I think having paid $500 for entry should entitle you to at least a couple of freebies. I'm sure they could pay someone a few bob, and make a few more dollars by having a open bar for the booze.
It's a VIP session, fans should be treated like VIPs, not just consumers.

I don't disagree, but having done VIP a few times now I've noticed they are very strict about the no alcohol thing. It's clearly something the band is enforcing, not just the venue. I think part of it is the security issue. There are about 150 people in VIP and all it would take is for one of them to get a bit too lit off drinks to cause a problem.
Quick story - I did VIP back in 2014, same guide as this time around (Juan). It was a hot day and they had moved the entire group to an area just around the entrance to the arena. We waited there for looong time. After about 20 minutes, the vendor stands started to open and I happened to be right next to one- BEER! I asked if I could buy one and the vendor said sure. As soon as others saw I had one, about 4-5 more in our group did the same. Juan came back from making the rounds, saw us, and was ticked - asked us where we got the beer. Told us not do that again and told others in the group not do it either. Bottom line is they don't want anyone even slightly tipsy before seeing the band. After soundcheck, you can do whatever you want. Or at least that is my take on it.

I reckon no alcohol is valid, at least prior to the VIP "experience". Being sat in a room for 2 hours with no drinks and no phones seems a bit ordinary though.
The old experience with the Q&A and/or the video props and such sounded like a really cool thing. I guess I'm just a little disappointed that the experience as a whole seems to have gone backwards, especially as Adam made a big deal of wanting these to be something special when they first tried them out.

I got to speak directly with Adam after soundcheck. Always gracious and nice, but I could tell he just wanted to get on with it. I will give a little benefit of the doubt to him though. The arena tour just kicked off and there is a lot to do.
Related- Adam absolutely biffed the end of Fear Inoculum in the opener, night 2. Not sure how, but believe he jumped into the outro a few bars early. He went up to each of the others after the tune and looked like he gave a quick apology. The pressure is on. Good news is Danny is unflappable and won't follow any mistakes by the others down the rabbit hole.

No doubt they do, and I don't think everyone expect to be hanging all day with the band. I think the exposure to the band on the VIPs is ok, but there's a whole lot more their tour staff could be doing to make it a better experience

Sure, that's fair. But lest I make VIPers seem like complete ingrates, I should point out the swag they gave us is pretty damn good. Both the backpack and the sweater are very well made. Kinda puzzling both the stitching for the Tool logo and the sweater are black, making it impossible to see the logo. But quality-wise, I will use both. The portrait pins feel like an afterthought, but then they are $30 at the merch stand, so nice to have.
Also, the food they had for us after soundcheck was fine. That may have something to do with it being Staples Center. It's not the best venue for concerts, but overall it is a well run venue with decent food options.
Now, does any of that compare with the hand-signed by Adam right in front of you special poster for VIP from 2014? Then meeting with him personally 1:1? Then getting a chance to spend time with some of the models used from various Tool videos over the years? Uh... no. No way.
Hey, I got an idea to beef up the VIP exp - Q&A with junior before soundcheck!
... j/k :)

I thought something was amiss and saw the apologies. Lol.
On a similar note, Adam was trying really hard to get Maynard's attention during FI in Sacramento.
To no avail

Yes I've seen a show or two where DC brought the boys back from trailing off too far lol. Pretty amazing ability and also to the extent that I believe hardly anyone ever notices when it happens because it's usually that quick.

There is nothing "VIP" about being treated like children (having your phone confiscated), having your time wasted (sitting in a room for hours), and paying extra for the privilege of soda. And of course, selling 150 VIP tickets doesn't help either. A gymnasium full of VIPs!

/shrug It's just not what it was. And the phone confiscation thing started here on these forums (although I am sure if would have reached that point anyway). I liked all of my VIP counterparts that I met. Forced me to have a conversation rather than bury my nose in my phone.
Most importantly, I was front row, center. An impossible ticket to get otherwise. Got decent food and merch. I am good.

Fear Inoculum legit might be the best tool concert opener I've seen. That song is FANTASTIC live.
I greatly enjoyed the entire San Antonio concert...except Vicarious. Man that song needs retired so bad. The video resolution looks poor, maynard sitting down singing the whole song through distortion. It's such a boring song.

Hi Junior,
A lot of talk on the Tool Reddit about a Fern that has been touring with the band. Are you able to provide us with some insight?
Thanks!
