Can anyone recall anything about poisoned tea in the news over the past few years? It sounds kind of ridiculous, but the other lines in that section seem to vaguely hint at certain stories I suppose (e.g., "killed by the husband" = Scott Peterson?)

Not that the lines have to reference specific current events, of course. Just a thought.

now that i look at the lryics, i wrote a poem very similar to the message of this about how people watch the news and we get desensitized to all the death and suffering we see and it just becomes part of our routine and we're used to it. this is hte part that most reminded me of it....

I've noticed that listening to the song while trying to read the lyrics really detracts from the song. Our typical grammatical structure doesn't fit with the weird structure of the different parts of the song, or how quickly it changes.
