Where the hell is that point? I can't find a part where he plays 6 with his hands. Maybe it's the part with a lot of electric drum where he makes 1 sound with his left foot (I think he does that too with the handclapping on The Grudge), but there is no other part I can think of right now. Most of the song is in 11/8 anyway...

And on question:
Rosetta Stoned and 10.000 Days both get my vote. The first has a lot of different parts in it (which is hard to memorize) and the latter has a LOT of toms in it and changes often as well. And as someone stated: the ending of the Grudge is really hard as well.

I agree with Lateralus and Ticks and Leeches as two of the hardest to play.
The crown effectively goes to Rosetta Stonded. That part from 7:00 to around 8:30 is just plain fucking amazing. If you count it well, you'll realise that, effectively, Dany is REALLY playing "four with his left foot, five with his right foot, and six with his hands". The polyrythmic effect is there, and it's quite mesmerizing. It's waaaaay harder to play than any flashy, speedy shit we hear too often on the radio.

You know, I agree the double bass drums in Schism and Aenema are sounding like bad ass machine guns, but it's also easier to master than those whacky timing structures that require perfect limb independance.

Ohhh shit! I forgot... the drum solo in 46 & 2, to me, seems harder to play than the Grudge's ending.

Not a chance. The Grudge takes that battle.

Also, no one has mentioned 'the beat' as we call, it in Eulogy. I don't remember the time, maybe around 6-7 minutes in. listen carefully, break it down, and try it. Makes for a frustrating night.

Some good opinions in this thread, but as a drummer of 34 years, on 10K Days Rosetta may very well be the most impressive. But Jambi and Vicarious, let's just say there's not a whole lot that is easy about those tunes, either. There's not an easy drumming song on any of their last two CDs. As a point of relativity, most of Undertow is real doable, less than half of Aenima is doable (but boy, Pushit sure is fun) and Lateralus just propelled Danny (or Danny took Lateralus) to a new dimension of his own drumming. And this CD goes at least a step or two beyond anything he has recorded with anyone including Lateralus. And he knows it. This man has fucking worked his tail off to become better and he is now without a doubt one of the top drummers in the world. No surprise. 46&2 is a great song, but the drum solo is not all that impressive, or, I shoud say, not as hard as it looks in either listening to it or watching him from 20-30 feet away doing it. Some of the off-time hi-hat things he does in the verses of that song are more impressive than that drum solo, IMO. I don't even yet have the nerve to try drumming to ANY of this current CD. It will be awhile. Lots of subtleties in Jambi that most non-drummers cannot comprehend or appreciate. I see nothing mentioned about that most awesome song or the (pehaps overplayed) Vicarious. All instruments and vocals shine on that song, sick as some may be of hearing it on radio (I don't listen to radio, thank God). Rosetta is unbelievable and I am so glad I got to see them do it in Chicago. The drumming in 10000 Days is nothing to scoff at. Ticks and Leeches is a bitch to be sure, one of the best ever, but some of the independence displayed on Triad is beyond belief to me, the same for the song Lateralus. As a drummer, 13 years ago he had me pulling my hair out. Now I don't even reach for my hair. I just shake my head and smile, and sigh. Anyone else with similar opinions about the advancement of Mr. Carey's drumming skills over the last three CDs?

That drumming video was freakin sweet. I'm no drummer, so I couldn't tell you which songs are the most technical. But Lateralus(song and album) and 10,000 days are amazing in any aspect. When I saw them play in Minneapolis back on May 15th, I just sat there taking turns watching each member of the band, moreso danny, adam, and maynard. And wow, watching danny play just blew my mind.

I think a lot of Aenima stuff is hard because of the speed and aggression; ie. Hooker, Aenema, Eulogy, Third Eye.

Rosetta Stoned is easily the most difficult on the new record. The Grudge and Parabola are rough on Lateralus.

Two most impression percussive performances, I think: Rosetta and Triad.

I have been playing drums for about a year and a half now. I cant wait till I can make it look that easy. Tell your brother he is great. Even though he probably doesnt care what a guy on some forum has to say about him.

The Grudge. I believe that The Grudge is their most technical song to play.

I really love playing Undertow...

The part that slows down is soo good musically.

Also - the middle of Lateralus is amazing.. 5 over 6! ie.. groups of 5 1/16th's over the band playing 6/8. It's cool on the hi-hat, but when the beat kicks in, it's a bitch to make it line up at the end!

I have played Sober, Undertow, Schism, Lateralus, Parabola, Stinkfist, Aenima, Eulogy and H. I've worked out some of the cool grooves from other tracks, but that's enough study for me.. my playing started to attract too many Danny Carey cliches.

A fun drum lick (which he didn't write, but uses heaps) is:

Triplets >> Right hand Floor Tom - Right kick - Left kick (over and over)

Easy to get the hang of, and not too hard to play fast... Aenima, Schism etc!

Can you tell your brother that he plays the main groove during the verses wrong. It's not a continued flow of '1-8th 2-16th' but broken with a single 8th at the end of the 4th count... (it is the case in the intro only)

Eulogy and 'ticks and leeches' are BY FAARRR not the most complex songs on the drums.. everybody who claims that is ignorant.

Although it's hard to pick one and say: this is it.. My guess is that the Salival's pushit version is the most complex.. regarding to the tabla sequence in there (although not played by danny)
