Any ideas what this could be? I'm thinking live DVD in the fall, new album in the spring. Similar to the schedule they kept with Salival/Lateralus?

As posted in a comment on Fourtheye:

Quote:
After some research I can confirm this picture was taken from the ‘The Pot’ production set. Going over the EXIF data in the jpg file (toolstill.jpg), it seems like they forgot to take away the GPS data from where the picture was snapped (paste this on google maps: N34.280333 W118.431333). That location points to Legacy Effects, a visual fx studio in San Fernando CA. While browsing their webpage I found this http://www.legacyefx.com/features/LegFilm.pdf, scroll to the bottom. So that’s it. The picture was taken 09/25/2011 so it is likely it will meet a fall release
|
For those that can't be bothered clicking the link and scrolling to the bottom it says "Tool - The Pot - Adam Jones - 2011"

I'd rather have it six and half years after the cd's released than never at all

Rolo, I like your ide on the source of inspiration.
Gettin' high to to connect with Godhead. But in doing so has severed himself from life and ironically his own self. Musta been high.
Lab coat may mean that he uses science, chemicals, synthetic means of attaining unity with God rather than with his own innate abillities.

i was definitely out of line.

I have been waiting for:
1. The pot video
2. A new album
A live dvd? Eh, don't care. I've seen them five times and it'd be hard to capture that experience on film. I would still be excited for it, but I would much rather have a movie like "The Wall" than a silly little live dvd. It's too, uh, "AC/DC" for my taste...

I hope so, I prefer it when Tool videos are wierd.
FWIW, it doesn't bother me that a video for The Pot is 6 years "late".

it wont bother me if its mindblowingly good but if its even just great i feel like the video will become old way sooner than a video for a new song. like what other band has ever made a video for a song six years after its been released. i cant see it going as well as the band would have hoped. knowing adam he knows what hes doing so he must have some trick up his sleeve.

It depends on what you think the bands expectations are. Do you expect Adam/Tool are doing it for the money, or because it's a piece of art they want to add to their collection?
The answer is probably somewhere in the middle, but I doubt that Adam is sitting wondering if the project is going to be a financial success. I expect he really just cares about how the video fits his creative vision, and how well it is received by the fans.

my thoughts are it will be cool at first but a month after its released it will be forgotten. after all its all about the music. the videos enhance the music. i feel like most tool fans are conditioned to the song the pot already and creating a video for a song that everyones already used to and analyzed half to death is and artistic waste. to me its like getting a ground roll double compared to a grandslam. money is not a part of it at all, i just want to be wowed by the band really

Hopefully they will wow you, and I'm sure that's what they're aiming for.
Not sure I buy into the whole "conditioned to the song" part though. All the recent Tool videos have been made available well after the song was released and over analysed.

Let me say this-
I would be excited if tool released a video for Useful Idiot tomorrow
I would be excited if tool came to my house and shit in the kitchen, said nothing, and left
Live dvd, pot video, new album...anything is better than nothing. Actually, nothing is okay...just as long as they are still around and not on MTV or the Today Show or Jay Leno. I like tool subtle, obscure, and with only 1 fuck given- art. Nevermind, even the art doesn't matter. I have never not liked anything tool has done. I even liked LAMC.

new album will constist of only one song. and corresponding video. new tour will be the performance of just that.
"Keenan acknowledges the band doesn't necessarily need to release new material to fill an arena – they took their dark, psychedelic show on the road as recently as earlier this year. `But as an artist you don't want to become a greatest hits version of yourself, either,` he says. `You want to push the boundaries. You want to figure out how can you challenge yourself to discover something new, discover something different about yourself. What are your limitations? What avenues can you push and expand? That is life. I don't have any interest in coasting yet.`
