Author & Punisher are much better than 3eeth - a different style of industrial.
FWIW though, I think the latest 3eeth album was pretty good

I do find A & P to be more interesting and less pretentious than 3Teeth.
I didn’t mind 3Teeth’s cover of pumped up kicks. After sitting through them in San Fran and San Diego I hadn’t really revisited them until that came up on my Spotify radio.
Looks like A&P are in Seattle next week with Cattle Decapitation. I may have to go check out his homemade setup up-close.

I want tool or puscifer to do NPR's tiny desk.
Shit would be awesome.

The producer is freaking out because they had to remove most of the iconic tiny-desk and the cubicle behind it just to get “the essentials” back there for Danny. The neighboring offices have to close early due to overcrowding and fans taking over the rest of the complex, and out of nowhere, a group of 4 guys start selling armfuls of poorly screen-printed Fool shirts. Nobody thought to dial back the fog machines, so they keep blasting the rented office-space with arena amounts of artificial fog bringing visibility down to mere centimeters. Normally, the staff/audience would be concerned but earlier in the day someone spiked the coffee pot with a heroic dose of LSD25 and everyone is just starting to realize the room has detached from reality and is soaring through a dimension of fog and shifting colors. The music cuts the dancing prism to give canvas for Maynard’s message. The set is a brutal 45 mins consisting of only 7empest, Undertow, Hooker with a Penis, and The Grudge. The station has been off-air for hours and the sponsor’s messages have just been playing on loop, but the NPR staff is nowhere near ready to regain control of their psyche yet. After the show silence fills the room as everyone is struggling to put their heads back together and regain control of their bodies. It feels like we’ve been gone for hours. The only audio recording of the performance was on the single microphone from the webcam that was rolling since soundcheck, however it’s video was completely masked by the fog in the room. As the room begins to air out, the scene of destruction is unveiled. A couple of the younger assistants lay giggling on the floor among the coffee mugs, staplers, binders, and other office-debris that got scattered in the chaos. For some, this was their first NPR Tiny Desk concert and it will take them some time to process everything completely. For others- They realize this was the wildest and most meaningful NPR Tiny Desk concert they will ever witness. They’re overwhelmed with a sense of satisfaction, completeness and understanding that this marks the end of their career. They can retire now, living a life of humble solitude and meditation.

Hey, no kidding! Death Atlas just secured my Spotify #2 slot. I haven’t put it down for a week! I’m not into a lot of extreme-doom-grind-blast-whatever-CORE music... Rings of Saturn, [classic]Slipknot, Lamb of God, Pantera, and Black Label Society with a couple more obscurities dominate the heavy end of my musical spectrum. With a name like “Cattle Decapitation”, I found it hard to take them seriously- at first, but then I put it on. I have a lot of metal head friends who expose me to some pretty obscure and small metal bands who all sort of sound the same to me. Racing drums, prolonged screams with inaudible lyrics, and so much volume and distortion that any tone from the instruments is lost in the noise. This is what I was expecting out of CattleD. Not quite. I gave it a cover-to-cover listen on my way into work and a couple songs remained floating around my head during my 13 hour shift. I couldn’t wait to listen to it again on the return trip. Yes it is all those things I expected, but it’s crafted in such a way that the songs all have their own identity, movements, and dare I say, emotions? Vulturous was the first stand-out track for me. The groove-core approach to the guitar is right up my alley and I love how the solo fits into the structure of the song- and the pause-BLAST transitions are fucking brutal. I am sure I will be learning to play this song soon. The vocals are also next level. Until I looked it up, I assumed there were two vocalists. He’s got a brutally low monster-growl, and then that high pitched scream that conjures images of a winged demon. What I really thought was cool is he double-tracks and harmonizes his screams, which is just silly... Bring Back the Plague is another top track for me. It starts out angry and driven, then it transitions into a haunting chorus that stays with me throughout the day... this whole album is just so well crafted. The artwork, the sound, the message- everything fits together in one cohesive package that makes me excited for both the future of metal AND the end of the human race. Lol.
For real, though... i haven’t felt this refreshed by something new that wasn’t Tool in a long time. I am very excited to see CattleD and Author & Punisher tomorrow night. Thanks for the push, Hellboy.

Not sure, but two people asked me what Mila Jovavich has to do with Maynard... I told them I’m aware of the comments Maynard makes about her in Blood Into Wine, and I thought she toured with Pucifer years ago. The interactions left me wondering why two people were bringing up something from so far back all of a sudden. Now this? Are they related? What do you know?

So I'm guessing it's not Mila. Not sure if she's considered A list at this time. Subjective 8 suppose.
But as you pointed out, she is a bud of MJK and sang with Pucifer (was lucky end to see her twice with them and it was indeed killer) since Adam seems to be 100% in charge of vids, I dont think he would incorporate someone associated with Puscifer.
Just my humble opinion.

If you saw her twice with Puscifer, then you saw most of her appearances with them.
I think she only did 2 or 3 shows. 4 at the most. I could be forgetting things.
She never did any of the Puscifer tours that I recall, only the Pearl in Vegas and Club Nokia mini-stands.

If I had to guess (and I do), I'd say they met through Danny Lohner.
Probably while working on a soundtrack song in the early 2000's.

Yep, Vegss and Nokia. Man those first Puscifer shows at the Pearl were AMAZING.
On a side note, I know you worked on the TCH Show and I was sad to read about the passing of Chuy. Not sure if you were friends, but my condolences nonetheless.

Chuy wasn't a part of the Netflix series that I did, so I never met him, but I know a lot of people from that show who also worked on the previous show and knew him.

Ahhhhhh! That's right, she didn't bring him over.
I wonder if she will do any more episodes for Netflix I thought most of them were excellent

I think the talk show is done for good.
She'll probably continue to do specials for them. Not sure, though.

I’d have to say, this little Author & Punisher rabbit hole Tool lead me down has been very satisfying. I read up on A&P and became interested in the concept...then I saw he was playing with Cattle Decapitation. Upon Hellboy’s recommendations, I consumed the hell out of their new album, loved it, & decided to hit their Seattle show on Tuesday. Holy fuck was that a great decision! Watching A&P from an arms reach away was worth the price of admission alone. The Cattle Decapitation set covered everything I like about Death Atlas, and the crowd was super into it. Tiny venue with a dense pit and the band right in your face— it felt gooooood. Atheist was on the bill, as well... and the hole gets deeper. If you like Pantera, and haven’t heard of Atheist (like myself) — open up your music app of choice and give ‘em a shot. I’ve been ears-deep in Atheist for the last two days. Imagine if Pantera had Dimebag on Bass as well as guitar, and peppered in time-changes as frequently as Tool. They shred, they thrash, they groove, and they were a hell of a lot of fun. Another solid find for regular rotation. That’s 3 new bands for my catalogue if anyone is keeping score. Thanks, Tool, for the breadcrumbs...
Also, I had coincidentally met the drummer for the opener, Vitriol, at a friends house in Portland a while back— which made me feel REAL fucking cool.
...And what a wild ride it has been.

Atheist are a cool band as well. About as slow as Tool are at making records from memory.
I love small shows, and it's one of the reasons I like grind and punk stuff so much. The atmosphere an energy of a gig in a club rivals even the most spectacular lighting shows.

I go to a lot of smaller Stoner and Heavy Psych shows but I cant get into grindcore. Agree about club shows they cant be beat. My pals in Fu Manchu still only charge $15 to get in.

So what are the odds they’ll play 7empest before they head downundah? Really looking forward to this trip to AZ. It’s shaping up to be a party- basically my grooms party all flying into PHX for a 16 hour rager. Plane lands at 2pm and we’re planning on playing through till takeoff at 6am Sunday morning.

Stranger in the room inhales a long pull off the bong & breaks the silence:
“If you look at the first letters used in the all the album names, Tool have used all the Vowels. A E I O U”, Pointing out each letter on the posters across the room. He exhales the hit as he forgets what he was talking about, slowly retracting his finger from the air. Everyone waits for him to continue as they slowly, one by one, go back to what they were doing. Nobody wants him to continue, but then he does.
“Right! It’s the SYLLABLES. The syllables in the song add up to the Fibonacci number. Three point four, or whatever.” Cringe. I feel my neck twitch behind my ear. Shut up, kid. You’re way out of your league. I pull one headphone out and continue staring at my computer screen.
“Yeah these guys turn their songs into math and make it really complicated. All of their work is really deep. I learned one of their songs on guitar, and it’s BY FAR the hardest song I know. You should really listen to these guys!”
This guy can’t be older than 22, maybe 23. He couldn’t have heard of Tool before this year... maybe a wise older brother turned him onto them early? Who knows, but I know this guy. This fan. He’s the fan I used to be, trying to enlighten people about this band I just heard of and their newest album, Lateralus. I can’t help myself.
“What do you mean, turn their songs into math? Like algebra?”, I ask with my best quizzical look. He doesn’t know that I studied music theory through college, and can play most of Tool’s catalogue on bass and guitar, or that I have studied the finite details of the efforts and musicianship displayed in their work. All he knows is that I’m listening, and that’s all he needs.
“Well all their songs are really complicated because they don’t just 1-2-3-4 like normal”, he explains while clapping along and bobbing his head. “Their songs are like 1-2-3-1-2-1-2-3” he recites, while clapping and bobbing a little faster. “And, not just to three, sometimes they count to six, or seven!” He says with honest excitement in his eyes. “You never know when they’re going to change!”
Almost. He’s almost got it. I overcome the urge to elaborate and correct him, but I’ve got a little bit of time left, and I don’t want to discourage him. He’s clearly learned something, and maybe he’ll continue that path. Either way, the show must go on.
“That seems like it would sound terrible. Isn’t music supposed to be a certain way for it to sound like a song?” I ask, pausing the music in my remaining earbud.
He pauses to think about the question. He surprises me with politician-like Q&A athleticism.
“That’s just the thing! These guys are geniuses! They make it work. And it sounds super psychedelic, too. My brother listened to them on mushrooms once, and he said it was like meeting God!”
There it is. Your brother already sounds cooler than you. You should hang out with your brother more. My guess is your brother is probably 6-10 years older than you are, and has seen Tool a handful of times, and you spent your recent teen years wearing that old Tool shirt he left behind when he finally moved out. Your brother probably discovered Tool in high school, sitting on the floor alone in his bedroom. He’s devoted. I know this fan. He’s the fan I used to be. I go to comment on how cool his brother is, but an overwhelming urge to stop keeps the words from passing my mouth. I’ve learned to trust these signs and let the universe guide my next steps. I choose my words carefully.
“Oh yeah? Your brother sounds pretty cool.” I say with a friendly tone as he gathers another hit into the chamber of his bong.
“Um,” he pauses to clear the smoke and exhales. “Well, he died last year.” He says. I can see the THC fill the capillaries in his face, and his eyes gloss over as he stairs at the corner of the table. “He lived in Seattle a couple years ago, then one day my mom got a call that he OD’ed.”
Wow. This guy is an extrovert, isn’t he? Welp, here we are. “I’m so sorry. That couldn’t have been easy.” I feel like I learn this kids life story in an instant. Abandoned by his influential cool older brother at a pivotal influential time. He didn’t understand why he had to go, and he never got to say goodbye.
“Yeah, but he loved Tool. I still have all his CDs and stuff.” He says, collecting himself. “They’re like, original vintage.”
“And they were your brothers gift to you, so that makes them priceless.” I remind him as I close my laptop and put it in my bag signaling that I’ve got to go. “Hey, you should listen to Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days when you’re thinking about him.” I say, giving myself away as a Tool fan. I see the realization come over him as I walk over to thank my AirBnB host. I put my earbuds back in and tap the ending to Pneuma on my chest as I walk into the city.
Don’t forget- we are all here to take care of each other. Even the annoying rookies that just started their path. Love each other.

Sorry guys. Sometimes I smoke a bowl and start typing, not realizing how long it is until I hit post. There’s probably a more appropriate place to publish this kind of thing, but y’all are just so cool. Fun fact: this all came from my thumbs on my phone; from my bathroom to yours.
