No, this cannot be the point. They are just too lazy and dont care about the fans.
It's not that in one year the crowd has changed: this european leg is going to be attended from the same people that were there in June/July 06 and November/December 06.
Don't fool around with us: it's the same show once again. I cannot believe that they're not able to play simple songs like Intolerance, Prison Sex, 4°, H., Jimmy, Opiate, Part of Me, The Patient, Triad and even Intension if they rearrange it a little.
have you put any thought into what it takes from the band and the off stage crew to put together the show you see today?? the main reason they can't randomly throw in a new song to the set is because of a) maynard's voice (check the tool page news section) and b) the amazing stage show that you get to see. there is so much more to tool's live show that you're not taking in to consideration that determines the set list. don't be a fucking ass and say they don't care about the fans because they definetly do. LOOK AT THE FUCKING AMAZING STAGE SHOW YOUR GETTING.. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT?? i sure as hell haven't... throwing in the songs you listed without weeks and weeks of proper preperation would destroy the effect of the live show. and i guaruntee you we won't be hearing triad ever again until the live dvd comes out.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
oh and one last thing.. look at how old the guys are now. this isn't the aenema days people.... get a fucking clue and be thankful for what they can give us now adays.

Have you ever seen the show of the chemical brothers or daft punk? They're at least as good, if not better than the tool stage.
It's Tool thought that we all should get inspired by their music, how come we get so little music then?
Besides that the whole show is operated by computers, automatically or with a push of a button. Not much effort to do a change in that. And isn't life not all about taking risks?
I don't care if they don't play more other stuff. But they can do a couple, since they play pushit, flood, swamp song and the patient. Those were good shows, so why the hell won't they play it more frequent?
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
They COULD have made a good setlist for Europe.
For example : I have seen Tool 5 times in Europe during the last 2 years, and on none of those 5 shows they've played Wings/10,000 days.
I can imagine a lot of people from around Belgium/Holland/France have seen the same shows that I did, and are dying to see them do the masterpiece ...
I was lucky enough to see them in Arizona (Tucson) earlier this year, with a better light show, and a better setlist (wings/10K + pushit!!!) ... and if they would just take THAT setlist to Europe, I think nobody would be complaining ...

Also is 10,000 Days a song for a festival? No.
Luxembourg / Paris / Leuven / Brussels / Werchter
That's what I mean with putting a good setlist together. If they can play it in Germany a couple of days later, why can't they play it on 1 of the 2 Belgian shows ...
And what is a "festival song". I don't think Rosetta Stoned is a festival song aswell...

is pretty much the best setlist Tool has ever played.
Their best setlist that I saw in this tour was at Mansfield MA when they played Flood AND Pushit. I had never been so excited in my life until an asshole security guard ruined the climax of Pushit for me...

Now thàt would be awesome. :-)
To be honest with you I am getting a little bit tired of seeing Schism live, so I wouldn't mind if they replaced that with something like (hopefully) The Grudge or The Patient (please Maynard, PLEASE)...

Actually, I was talking to one of the guys in the soundbooth area before they played FLOOD for the first time (Greenville, SC) since 2002 and he said the band came out that afternoon for soundcheck, played FLOOD 2 or 3 times, then told the crew it would be on the setlist that night. Everything: lights, visuals, lasers, sound is all done by people on the fly. Nothing is pre-programmed.

I think you have chemical brothers and tool mixed up. The 4 people in Tool play instruments, its the chemicl brothers that pretty much push buttons and mix songs together with their electronic music. And I have seen Chemical Brothers live and it does not compare to a live Tool show.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Lipan Conjuring was played in Tempe, AZ 5/6/06 and The Patient was from the Coachella show 4/30/06 through Minneapolis 5/12/06 and at one NYC show on the warm-up tour.

True. The visuals and lighting can be tweaked to accomodate just about any song. A lot of the visuals used now have been around for a LONG time as well and can be synched-up with a different song so that aspect doesn't dictate what songs will be played. I'm sure that a majority of the Undertow and Ænima songs could be easily picked up after a few playings at a soundcheck because of how long they've been around. Lateralus material might need an actual rehearsal due to the increased complexity of the songs and the fact that they haven't been around as long as other songs on previous albums. So basically, it wouldn't seem that the similar setlists are the result of any technical issue(s).

Another thing I'd like to know : do they have the US lasershow with them? When I saw 'em in november here in Europe, they had the green lasers ... but in Arizona in may 07 they had green, red, blue, ... lasers ...

Looks like just green:

Though it could vary at different venues depending on the available power source and if there is proper drainage as some of the colored lasers are water cooled and consume more power than the green ones.

I love the people clapping along to the music.
But the drum solo wasn't even close to what I saw at the Chicago and Milwaukee shows...the drummer from Big Business was awesome!

I was told that Tool were going to be comming back down to Australia at the end of the year but I still havent heard anything. Last year there were rumours flying around everywhere befor they came, but I cant seem to find nothing this time....
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
it was posted on a mars volta fansite... heres the post:
"So I went to the Sunset Junction musical festival last weekend with my homie and we had the pleasure of meeting the one and only Cedric-Bixler Zavala. We talked for a good ten minutes about various musical artists including The Mars Volta. He mentioned planning some free secret shows, a South American tour with Tool in November, and he seemed very amped about The Bedlam in Goliath. Good times... Sunset Junction was the shit. "
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Mars Volta are always looking for greater bands to tour with, just like also Red Hot Chili Peppers, in order to get known by many fans of the other band.
Then, they often talk shit about the bands. They did with RHCP (and fans did it a lot too), and also right now it seems that Cedric said that Maynard is an asshole superstar, or something like that.
Anyway:
Heya there, greetings from Lisbon .
just been checking the Tour Section, and i got worried..I'd just like to know WHAT ABOUT A CONCERT DATE HERE IN PORTUGAL ?? humm? in Lisbon ! please! it would be sweet,,(again,,) =] thanks you all.
Spiral Out..

After reading the stupidity that takes place in that thread, it's hard to take any of it seriously. I love how most of The Mars Volta fans are talking crap about TOOL and their fans...hey, at least we can spell. Has anybody checked that site out? They can't even keep a thread on topic without turning it into a flame war against one another. It's actually kind of funny in that pathetic sort of way.
