So...there was Adam's Guitar World cover, and now I'm hearing Danny will be on modern drummer.
Has the new album made any other somewhat notable magazine covers or major news stories?
I remember for Lateralus they got Spin, Alternative Press and I think a few others.
what the duce?

I agree. I just go the new Maxim where they reviewed (and praised) the new Pearl Jam but 10K Days didn't even get mentioned. If I remember correctly 10K Days outsold Pearl Jam 2:1 it's first week. No love...

Badass how a band can get such little press about an album and watch it fly to the top of the charts like that. Who rules again? Oh yeah, pearl necklace jam. They obviously have lots more fans.

I flicked through some magazines in Tower Records today: no Tool review OR interview in Spin, Blender, Q, NME, Rolling Stone...W.T.F.?
Now I know they didn't send promos out, but still, the record leaked over a month ago, so there's been plenty of time to review. Fuck these magazines. Fuck them.

OK fair enough, but it'd be nice to see critics showing some love for Tool. I read music magazines and I'm sick of reading about the same crappy bands. It'd be nice to read stuff about Tool. And when NIN came out with With Teeth, they got a ton of press.

of course it would be nice
here in Poland things are ok. two most important magazines published stuff about tool.
one published a 16 page special, with the review (10kd better than aenima, worse than lateralus, 4,5/5) the other published an interview with justin I guess, and put them on the cover
but if there were no articles, I would not be surprised and I would not despair. Tool does not play mainstream rock, we have to accept that this music is not an easy listen so not all will love it.

I think I also saw them on the cover of a german mag called Hard Rock or Rock Hard, or something like that. Other than that, like Centaur said. I think It's the Polish version of Metal Hamer that has them on the cover, but I'll verify this.

There was a double page spread here in Oz in RALPH mag (mens mag like Maxim). The left page was a massive shot of Maynard kinda kneeling down with his finger shoved up his nose (and sporting a sexy APC beanie). Pretty funny shit. And the article (right page) was an interview with Danny and Maynard from a couple of months back (with a couple of small live shots inset). Considering the stupid questions thrown at them from this proudly unprofessional magazine, the article was actually really cool and quite amusing. They came across a lot more light-hearted than usual. Quality journalism ;)

I don't think its about media exposure, I think people (myself included) would like to see Tool receive some praise now and then. I don't want them to do a 20 min live interview on MTV, I just want people to know that my favorite band kicks ass and sold almost 600,000 copies in its first week out, kicking pearl jam right in the balls. But the question is.. why do some of these big mags neglect tool? or is it tool neglecting them? who knows. at least they made the NYtimes.

slightly off the subject but not...
i live in england and channel4 host 'the album chart show' every week, giving the run-down on the uk album charts and the bands/albums in each.
i never watch the thing cause its all bollocks in the charts but this particular week i watched it (when it debuted at no.4).
When they got to no.4, running down the charts, they said very little about tool but got the name wrong! it read...
TOOL '10,000 DAYS LOST'
where the fuck did they get the word 'lost' from?
with that in mind, it actually would've sounded quite good as an album title.
even so, it just proves how the media focusses on the most commercial of bands and when it comes to a more underground band such as tool, they dont put an ounce of effort into researching them or even the actual album name!
they just eat any old shit they get fed. they are the real tools.
fucking dumbasses!

i dont understand the amount of people that need more shit to read up on tool. try this; put the cd and listen. simple enough. thats all you need. the music. a bit of the artwork here and there. why do you care so much about others opinions on music? especially when theres not a credible magazine that would actually supply something worth reading on said subject. its the same old regurgitated "tool are the monsters of prog-metal," "said song is seven minutes long," "they're really hard to figure out," shit. even insight by the band is mediocere at best. the only thing so far coming from this years media run is adam saying that it's his band, and for the ones with brains that should have come to attention even earlier. it seems as if some of you bypass everything you read by these guys. theyve constantly reminded their fans that they arent some media whores, theyre artists, a rare breed in todays music industry. but yet, you still want something more to suck on. read a goddamn book. take a walk. do something with your fucking life other than tossing off to tool at your local hot topic.

I bought the Guitar World with Adam and the issue of Revolver when they came out but that was it. I don't really scour for magazines they get featured in because it's not really that important to me. The album and then seeing them when they play in my area is what really matters anyways.

Tool WAS mentioned in that issue of Maxim. Opposite page of the PJ picture, down at the bottom. They even had a headshot of Maynard. It was one of those crappy haiku album reviews.
And, Tool did make it on to CNN.com, albeit kinda buried. See it here (scroll to the bottom): http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/05/12/showbuzz/index.html

On Fuse (I don't know how many of you people get the music channel fuse... we just got it last year)...
-RHCP had practically a whole week dedicated to them.
-Pearl Jam had a bunch of commericals and shit about them.
-Angels and Airwaves are currently having a bunch of commericals and live shows aired about them.
-Tool had nothing...
...And they doubled Pearl Jam's sales.
Haha, I personally don't care how many people listen to Tool, and I really don't care if they get advertised/stuff said about them or not. This just goes to show how ignorant mainstream TV is about good music.

Bands like PJ and RHCP are more marketable to a wider audience. Little pissy girls listen to RHCP as well as Gen-X'ers, same with Pearl Jam. Tool's audience is limited.

You'll see. It's all right there plain as day if you'd look and listen like the band says to.

Has the new album made any other somewhat notable magazine covers or major news stories?
I remember for Lateralus they got Spin, Alternative Press and I think a few others.
what the duce?

they have never really dug the spotlight. But I think as the media continues to press there will be more and more
