I'm not sure that anything posted here can be considered "confirmed" I was speaking about the fact that TM does not have it listed. Until I see it on LN or TM I would say there are not a 100% confirmed.

Even Toolband has made errors in the past.

Yeah I cant believe it either. I just checked TM again at 5pm and there are still great tix available.
Doesnt look like theyre going to sellout the 7000 seats there.

They shouldve played the new Joint at the Hard Rock or the Pearl at the Plams again.

Because support acts on a Tool tour do very little (if anything at all) for ticket sales.
No offense to Kinski or Tweakbird, but were they the tipping point for anyone to say "Oh, now I'm going for sure!"?

Honestly, I would have gone to a second show this tour had I known the support act was a band I liked. You're right, it wouldn't have made a bit of difference in my attending the local show, but after the sameness of the last tour, I need a little more incentive to go to multiple shows.

Then, ideally, Tool will just scrap the support band for this tour and play for 30 extra minutes. Pass this along, Junior. I'm sure they'll consider it if you tell them to...

And by the way...when they announced that Trey Gunn and Pat Mastelotto of King Crimson would be opening with their duet in BOTH San Antonio, Texas AND the next night in Corpus Christi, Texas, I immediately Ebay'd a ticket for the Corpus show as well and drove down there the next day. Not that Tool benefited from my Ebay purchase, but it goes to show that if you have a really compelling support act, you can draw in a few more people.

but we on this board are the exception, not the rule that Junior is speaking of. In the case of Tool for the majority of ticket buying public, the opening act is not a deal breaker either way...

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

I'd be quicker to post the blame for TM than tool, on that one. But I love tool and I hate ticketmaster so i always look for any excuse to blame them. no need to argue about those things though. A week from now we shall have our first set list. :D Good luck and have FUN junior!

So, of the shows you went to with Isis opening, you wouldn't have gone if it was someone else?

Everyone who has bought their tickets for this summer tour have done so without knowing who the opener is. I think that makes my point.

Nothing negative about it.
Just responding to all the folks who are up in arms about not knowing who the opener is.

I guess if everyone knows well in advance they can learn the opening band members names so they can personalize the insults they yell at them while they are trying to play their set.

One thing that's for certain is that the opener will be someone most of the crowd probably hasn't heard of, but someone in Tool wants them to hear because they think the crowd might like them.

As far as I know, there will be an opener and it will probably change a couple times over the run.

LMFAO, it's sad but true sometimes.

It was pretty funny though at Lollapalooza last year with all the Tool fans yelling during the Rise Against set.

Ah, good point. The visual of a guy in a 1993 tour shirt flipping off the band during Right In Two and 10,000 Days in Reno because, I quote, "PLAY SOBER!" sets an uncanny precedent for a good population of the fanbase. Sorry about them.

As long as it's something something creative and beautiful in its own way, I'm a happy guy :D

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

so junior have you started coming up with any lighting arrangements for any of the new material? im not asking if they'll play any of it cause i know you've said before you often don't know the set until right before the show.... just curious how long it takes to come up with the lighting for a new song. i apologize if you've already addressed this and i missed it. even if you don't respond to this.... thanks a lot for all the insight you give on here. much appreciated. its cool to get a view that we don't normally get so we can look at things a little differently sometimes. if that makes any sense...

The crew heads to New Orleans this morning (Monday) and we will be working on the show all week.
I'm not going to comment on the setlist. Sorry. The band have been rehearsing for a bit and we will probably find out what's really going on sometime this week.
To come up with something we are all happy about for a song can take some time, but even if we got a last minute addition or change it wouldn't be the end of the world if the lights and video weren't "perfect" the first time or 2. Lighting is easier to "wing it", especially if it's an older song that I already know, than it is for video. It's happened a number of times over the years, and no-one seemed to notice (that's not an invitation to research that).

Whatever we come up with this week, and throughout the tour, I hope at least most of the people enjoy it.

I'll probably check back in here after the tour, but for now: I'm out.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

Sweet, now we can talk about junior behind his back. Just kidding, of course. But his latest comments are extremely interesting to me. They are going to work on the show all week. I think that bodes well for a new setlist. At least a little different from what we saw last summer.

Eh, I wouldn't get ahead of yourself. I think it's only safe to say that it bodes well for a pretty tight and coherent visual component on opening night.

IS IF FUCKING SATURDAY YET?!

I know, I hate to build expectations, but it's not going to take these lighting/visuals guys a week to rehearse the show they've been putting on for the past couple years. So it leads me to believe that they are putting in significant new elements. And that leads me to believe there will be some significant changes to the setlist. Maybe 2-3 different songs? I guess we'll find out soon!

It seems logical enough for me.
