DUH!
Stop being such a disgrace for all Tool fans...

And i think, Schism is about the communication between "we are all one mind" -mind and the mind of an individual. It's about how we humans are isolating ourselves from the grandeur of the whole of mankind/humanity. just a thought...i will expand on this idea once i finish thinking :)
That reminds me of a book I read awhile ago that said that all humans are connected mentally, but we close ourselves off from everyone else, which is why it's hard to understand each other. If everyone would keep an open mind, thoughts would flow freely through humanity. Something to that effect...

Re: I have the answer!

This is an "opinion" forum. So I stated my OPINION. I do not think if someone relates "schism" to christianity it is crazy. It's fine, whatever you relate the song to is ok with me. But this person said that he or she thinks MAYNARD'S message or meaning to the song has to do with christianity. And in my opinion, I think that is CRAZY. Now, you may think that is disgraceful. I do not. Sorry we don't all think LIKE YOU.

Re: I have the answer!

You're right, Maynard would NEVER sing about Christ or anything related. Thats INSANE! All this crazy talk of Maynard even being educated on the subject of religion is crazy talk. It's giving me a headache, I'm going to go relax and listen to EULOGY...

Look, thats my opinion and thats what makes sense to me. Who knows what was actually going through Maynards heads when the lyrics were written! I just stumbled on a unique connection and thought I would share it, to get all you guys thinkin. Maybe it sounds crazy to you cause you aren't that educated "historically and religiously"??

Maybe the webmaster should give maynard a call and have him come tell us whats going through his head

Re: I have the answer!

Actually I know quite a bit about christianity. I just don't listen to christian music. And sorry to inform you but Tool isn't a christian band.

Re: I have the answer!

1. I never said ANYTHING about christian music, I dont listen to it either.
2. I never said Tool is a christian band.

I'm really having a hard time believing you know a lot about 'christianity' as well. That's three strikes. You are rewarded no "intelligent' points. All in all, you get a D-. Dont feel bad though, cau.....wait, no...you should. End of discussion.

Extra credit: What does Eulogy say to you?

Re: I have the answer!

The reason tool's songs are not about christianity is not because of any of maynard's actual beliefs -- its because Tool's music deals with the inner world, not the outer. He has even said this in interview i saw of him - comparing the writing process for APC's emotive to his work with Tool. He does use religious symbols, but its only to explore the psyche. No sober was not written about religion, and neither was schism, nor eulogy. You can draw parallels, and find your own meaning to the song - and thats fine. That's just not what the author had in mind.

Re: I have the answer!

Who the hell knows what Tool songs are about? I don't, and Maynard ain't telling us any time soon, so I think it's safe to make our own theories.

Schism is a very interestingly crafted song, if you wanted to you can make it fit Christianity quite happily. Do I think it's about Christianity? Nope.
But can I be sure it isn't? Also nope.

As I listen to Schism, I'm getting the impression, more and more, that it isn't about anything at all. And that it's been carefully crafted so that it can fit almost literally ANY theory. You could apply it to physics, insanity, delusionment, cheese greater warehouses.

While I think that other songs may be more directly inspired, Schism, if it is inspired by anything, is very purposefully made vague. Maybe it's about deceipt, illusion and vagueness? Maybe it's about crazy nutjobs writing songs for other crazy nutjobs to argue and postulate about?

It is also now my ringtone :)

Re: I have the answer!

You are all insane! Simply the song is about how Tool is better than sex. The whole album is about the ascention of Tool as a whole. Hense the name LATERALUS! The Grudge tells us the struggles of a relationship....The Patiant is regret.... and Schism is relief! It is easily recognizable as a story!
