I havent been keeping up with all the latest thoughts with this song. I know to a certain extent there is some discrepency concerning the last couple lines.

This is what im hearing these days, not sure if anyone thrown this out there...

Dim my eyes is much more underwhelming than "Damn my eyes." I don't say this just because I hear it, but it makes more sense for him to want his eyes to be damned if they would ever compromise his center.

Also, this was posted earlier, but I do hear "Kneelin' away" always have, but I don't know how well that would fit contextually speaking. Besides the words before "kneelin'/givin' away" seem to be some of the most disputed lyrics.

But both would make sense with the subject matter. Dim my eyes looks and sound re-goddam-diculous.

Well i suppose thats possible. There are lots of songs that Maynard has done, either with Tool or APC that you can tell he is intentionally making it hard to understand what he saying... it makes you listen harder.

But also i would say that Maynard has never been one to stick to what's on the album, he often changes his lyrics base on how the song evolves over time. So i believe you that he says 'poison' live... but im afraid im going to have to be stubborn with this one; I still think its 'save your praise' on the album.

Dont worry, im sure official lyriccs will get released in a couple months that will say its 'poison' and i'll look like a douche. :-)

EDIT: I keep forgetting to say this.... despite what i HEAR, i do think that "save your poison" makes a bit more sense in the context of the song.

I would agree if the phrase "damn my eyes" was not a curse used commonly in history. "Damn his eyes!" I don't know the origin of the phrase but it wouldn't be something Maynard just pulled out of his ass and jotted onto a piece of paper, whereas "dim my eyes" would be a phrase entirely without history that meant roughly the same thing.

Wanton does make sense here as far as meaning goes, but I think it's "wants and needs divide me" because a division would make more sense if it's between two stated 'options'. He'd be saying, if I can't choose between my wants and my needs I might as well be gone.

True but, the phrase, as it goes, would be an after thought, or a reaction of sorts, no? like; "damn my eyes for tempting me..." or such. I just think it sounds "in context" to say it as dim, as a sort of beforehand thought...

I agree that Maynard does "stick-the-script" so to speek as far as making up sayings and phrases, but, origins of phrases aside, I hear dim, and maybe/sometimes damn, but NEVER jam...
