Well, my copy is still in mint condition considering I just have it on my Ipod. I've heard it about 10 times start to finish on CD just because it's cool to hear the track changes without the pauses.
But I've purchased 3 other copies as gifts.

I've still only bought one. If I start making better commission at my job, I'll buy at least one more.

What the fuck?
I own the following:
1 copy of Opiate
1 copy of Undertow
1 copy of Aenima
1 copy of Salival
1 copy of Lateralus
1 copy of 10,000 Days
I don't understand how you van 'wear out' a cd? I play mine all the time and they are still in good condition etc.
This concept of additional copies boggles my mind...

here's an interesting idea that you people who are buying CDs over and over might want to consider:
burn a copy.
come on folks, this is what the DMCA is all about! you bought it, so burn 12 copies of it, keep one in the car, one at your desk, one in the living room, one in the bedroom, and then scatter the others randomly around the house.
staying on topic...personally, my CD is absolutely mint. i bought it, listened to the CD once in my computer, ripped it to my hard drive, and um, that's about it. i've taken it out a couple times to listen to it on my surround sound system. so i think in total, my disc has been out of the package 3 times.

Mine always get broken/scratched. Sometimes they just vanish. Cd's aren't durable enough. They have a poor, easily ruined design.

For two reasons.
1. In case I lose my original copy, which is almost bound to happen, since I lose everything, and lost Lateralus about three or four times.
2. Right now, I have one copy to listen to and one copy to keep in mint condition, just to have, as I've been gathering an actual collection of CD's.

i've got two copies, one still wrapped (same with Aenima, Lateralus, and Undertow) and the one I listen to, which has been scratched b/c its so difficult to get it out of the case without putting prints on it. but i listen to it on my computer and have burned a copy anyway.

A little off topic, but I still have my original copies of Opiate and Undertow. It's not that hard to take care of CDs.

Three copies.
One for the car
One for the CD player at my house
One Alex Grey signed copy
In my opinion, if I'm willing to spend the money, why is it so bad that I would support the band? I figure I steal enough other music that I should make up for it by giving the bands I really like a little extra support. Just my opinion.

same here. it's not on vinyl. there isn't something physically playing the music on the cd, so there really shouldn't be any wear. that's like digital cable tv getting worn out.

If you have purchased 5 copies of Aenima, 3 copies of Undertow and 3 copies of Opiate then you can afford to buy yourself a copy of Salival...
No Quarter kicks arse, as do the live versions of Third Eye, Part Of Me and Pushit. You Lied and Merkaba aren't bad either... it's worth purchasing!

Good post.
Same here... until yesterday.
For the first time in my life I scratched a cd. A car stereo front dropped on 10kD. So I had to buy my second copy yesterday. The bad thing is that indirectly it was caused by the bad authoring of the cd. 10kD has cd-text issues. I was verifying that in my car.
Oh well, I guess now I have a spare cd-case ;)

come on folks, this is what the DMCA is all about! you bought it, so burn 12 copies of it, keep one in the car, one at your desk, one in the living room, one in the bedroom, and then scatter the others randomly around the house.
staying on topic...personally, my CD is absolutely mint. i bought it, listened to the CD once in my computer, ripped it to my hard drive, and um, that's about it. i've taken it out a couple times to listen to it on my surround sound system. so i think in total, my disc has been out of the package 3 times.

Would you believe that in Australia it is ILLEGAL to even burn a copy of a CD you have purchased? True story. You cannot even make a so-called backup copy.
Of course, that doesn't stop anybody from doing it. And rightly so. Because it's a STUPID fucking law.

What CD's are you buying?? I've had CD's get scratched occasionally....but man they are the most durable and wear-resistant medium that has come out yet....and now that you can just rip another copy.....I always do that as a backup. I actually did have to replace Aenima once....but once you have a burnt copy you can toss it around like a cheap.......______

I really can't understand posts like this one. Why own more than one copy in case the disc is scratched. If it does, THEN go buy another one! Save your money, there are a lot of great other bands out there too! Opeth is just one...

I don't understand how you van 'wear out' a cd? I play mine all the time and they are still in good condition etc.
This concept of additional copies boggles my mind...

one for me. the whole "car cd," "work cd," "bathroom cd" shit is dumb. can you people not walk from place to place and then safely place the cd in the respective cd player? can you not as well place the cd back in a case after you are finished listening to it? cd players do not destroy cd's in any way, shape or form, unless you do something stupid and toss the shit around like a dumbass, then you have a problem. laziness is a motherfucker, but if you have it that bad, then you need some adjustment in your life.

One copy is good enough, I don't find any reason whatsoever to purchase another album. I personally think its pointless and people need to take better care of their valuables. Put it on your computer, burn it, and save the original. Its stupid to waste money on the same fucking cd you already have
