This coming Thursday...i'm starting to get anxious.
You haven't heard reflection in person? My heart goes out to you.

The show isnt sold out because no one wants to sit behind the stage. At Oakland: Some friends that came to the show day-of without tickets and got $50 from scalpers while we paid $70 from ticketmaster were laughing at us because they got in for $20 less. But when they found out where their seats were they had nothing but frowns. If they would stop selling the part of the arena that is adjacent/behind the stage it would be sold out. Just nobody wants to sit there.
If there are tickets that are not behind the stage but up in the rafters I would jump on them as the new stage setup will favor your position over the sweaty dudes crushing you on the floor. trust me.

Which is it: Is it too hard for them to memorize different songs, or do they really think TOOL fan love hearing the singles over and over again?

Radiohead..shmaydiohead. If you cant tell the differences from one show to another just because the setlist is the same well then too bad for you. I was just at Oakland and Marysville. The only obvious difference was Right In Two for Opiate. But in reality they were totally different shows with different jams, interludes, vibes, and additions to each song. Granted 2002 tour might be a high water mark for you as it was for me. 11.23 was a religous experience. But I have embraced the fact that Tool has evolved and I am liking the new setup/sound more and more everyday. Look back to the 2001 tour after Lateralus and see if it compares to the 2002 tour. It doesnt. I would expect more in 2007 and embrace everything I can get now. I get shivers everytime I see the "interlude" because it really has this feel from the guys that "hey this is fucking awesome. Is it going to get any better than this? probably not, so we should enjoy it because we arent going to be around for much longer" type of vibe and to be honest it scares me. So when I see people bitching about the new album, the new stage production, or the setlists. I think, "man you dont even know how good you have it and when they are suddenly gone you're gonna be crying that you wished you had embraced them for more when they were around".......that kind of thinking is disappointing at best....

My friend heard them play it during soundcheck at fresno so it must be close. We did not hear it at the soundcheck for Marysville. I have my fingers and toes crossed that something special is going to happen in LA. Wings~!!!11!!
At the very least Im sure it will be a very VERY powerful Aenima!! :)

I'm going apart from you. All kidding aside, I'll be there. As I said earlier this thread, my best friend actually bought me a plane ticket and tickets to both shows to come to L.A. and see Tool. I have to admit, it would be interesting, and possibly nice, to put a face to some of the usernames and avatars.
Actually, Kabir, my friend works in the industry. He won a VMA the other night for editing. I thought you two should meet. Is anyone meeting up?

^ Heh
Is there any extracurricular activity before or after the show on Friday for t.d.n.? Not only would I like to buy a beer for Kabir but I'd like to meet some of you who want to meet others from here as well.
Re: 2006/09/07-08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center
I hate to get my hopes up, but I'm really thinking the two LA shows are a perfect opportunity for them to introduce Wings into their setlist. LA is Tool's hometown and there are two shows back to back at the same venue. It just seems like a good opportunity for it. Let's just hope.
Re: 2006/09/07-08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center
can't wait. 2 more days.
i'm skipping my quantitative analysis class on thursday, and my library shift on friday to see both shows. fuck, i'm such a nerd - but, i already knew that.

Re: 2006/09/07-08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center
I'm in for meeting up for a drink...but only going to be at the thursday night show. I've never been to the staples center, so don't know where would be a good place. Anybody familiar with the venue have any ideas?

I am going Friday and may buy you a drink. Does any one know who is the opening band? I checked the "Isis" site and they have the 7th show listed but not the 8th. Maybe it hasn't been reflected for Friday yet. Another quick question, does any one know if the Premium seats are the same as the Luxury Boxes? Seems I am sitting in a Suite....

Re: 2006/09/07-08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center
I've never been to the Staples Center. I am flying out there from Memphis, TN. I suggest that we either meet outside at the pointed end of the Staples Center which, from the link, appears to be approximately at the corner of Figueroa St. and Chick Hearn Ct. I am completely unfamiliar with the place, so if for any reason (i.e. it's too far away, there's a more convenient, easily recognizable location) this isn't a good idea, someone familiar with the place let us know.
If people prefer to meet inside the arena, I would just suggest that we meet at the northernmost point of the 200 level concourse, assuming there is a 200 level concourse. If you click on the above link, then "arena", then "seat viewer", then "concert", you'll see the 200 level seating that I'm talking about. I'm just figuring that's the most common area as with other arenas I've actually been to.

Re: 2006/09/07-08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center
I'm leaving from San Diego for the Friday show at like 4 o' clock. Considering all the traffic on a Friday night going to L.A....do you think I'll make it in time?
I'll admit I didn't think Isis was going to play, so if I'm late at least I won't be missing any Tool..

4 might be cutting it close if you want to get there by 730 or so....traffic going north at that time is fucking ridiculous. i'm leaving a bit earlier than that. probably 2 or so and hang out before the show.

got class until 12:30 pm. then heading home to read some thursday reviews. then picking up my friend, getting some money, and heading over there. i want to get there by 4.
if you're leaving from san diego, i'd depart at 2 just in case. you'll get there by between 4 and 5 (depending on traffic). and you'll have time to chill.

Yes, and they are sweet. Got one last night.
The Fox Sports Bar will probably be open if people are wanting to meet at the arena itself for a drink. The bar is located at the main east entrance right next to the Gretzky and Magic Johnson statues. There is not much more in the immediate vicinity outside of Staple's, so I recommend chilling there if you are arriving early (again, not sure if they are open though).

You may want to hit the 15 north and then come in against, ha, traffic either the 10 or the sixty. The 5 will be clogged from the 405/5 split all the way into downtown. Just a thought.

You will probably get mixed reviews about them if you ask Tool fans. IMO, they are not that melodic and lack what I usually look for in a band. But they have an excellent drummer (by excellent, I mean there probably isn't anyone better short of Danny Carey). And if you like ambient, heavy rock interspersed with growling Napalm Death-like vocals, then you will dig them. Their setlist is short anyway, so it's worth checking out. I will make sure and see them both the next two nights.
