Ive seen Tool in concert twice. I own every release that Tool has put out to this date. I even wasted money on those 2 useless dvd singles. Like every other geek that has ever posted on this site, I have spent hundreds of hours researching anything tool related. And i have only come to realize that this band really hates their fans. They dont like being idolized, or exaulted, or treated as anything other then equal. Yet they regard us as complete unworthy imbeciles. They even have the nerve to set up an official following (Tool Army) which quite frankly, to me, sounds like a scam no different than the catholic church. Charging us money for little badges and presales and the the hope to maybe chat with a godly band member from time to time. And now... the nerve to charge 65 dollars for a concert ticket. Well Tool (I know youre reading all of this obsessively).... I would like to thank you for all the great music you have given me... it has been life changing and all that nauseating crap Ive read in these forums about umpteen thousand times. But you aint getting another penny from me. Im sure you'll be fine financially, but drop me a line if you really need the money.

i do see your point ronny. toolarmy lways seemed like a scam to me too. especially when you begin the sign up process and at the bottom of the screen it says "brainwashing". right at that point i made up my mind i wanted nothing to do with it.

Welcome to the world of grown-ups.

You make your own decisions, especially when related to money.

You can no longer live your life according to artist's philosophies.

You have to make something out of yourself instead of just following others.

EVERYTHING YOU ONCE LOVED IS MARKETING!

65 dollars isn't even a lot of money geez. Venture into the real world and perhaps you will realize that paying 65 dollars for "life changing" experiences is worth it. Of course it's all relative. If your allowance is only 7 dollars a week, I can see how you may see that being a lot of money lol.

ronnyjonny why so bitter my friend?

Think about the last 4-5 years, how much have you really spent on Tool, really?
I'd reckon no more than 100bucks, probably substantially less.

Worthless dvd singles? If you desire to 'archive' the music videos in DVD quality, then the DVD singles were just for you, that was their sole purpose, nothing more, wasn't a ploy to get your dollar.

65 bucks to watch Tool, seems like a bargain to me, perhaps 200 dollars to watch the decrepit rolling stones is more up your alley

if you don't wanna spend the money, download the music for free. I can't believe you're complaining about spending money on Tool when you can actually download their latest album (which isn't even out yet) for free

Stop whining and/or get a decent job.

65 dollars is goddamn couch change, and it's your own fault for signing up for TA. They pretty much tell you it's a scam before you even bother signing up.. Tool.

I suppose it's part of growing up.
Me and three college friends are having the time of our life trying to spend money from our full time jobs and evade full time school to spend the money we spent on car-insurance, gas, textbooks, rent and new-borne children on a Tool concert some 300 odd miles north of here.

But Tool as my whitness, I will fucking be in Oakland on May 4.
SAT I/II and Jury Duty when I get back.

But damn it, May 4 is my day.

I signed up for TA a week back, thinking that it will pay off as a dedicated fan (willing to put my money where my mouth is). So now...

I'll pay money for the CD when I've gotten my money's worth from the investment. These days, paying money for a CD is about more than the music. If I dont see a presale/ticket info/handjob and a cupcake with the band event that makes me say "yes I wasn't a fool for thinking that you practiced what you preach guys" then that's it, I wont spend money on them aside from the basic listen to the music/fight with ticketmaster on Saturday AM than anyone else.

Radiohead and PearlJam take care of those that have been loyal, so I expect the same respect as a Tool fan.

besides, TA is a fan club

bands had fan clubs back in the day as a way to trade boots and share ideas. thats what toolarmy was supposed to be. the people that joined made it what it is. toolnavy is no better except we all have a chip on our shoulders but didnt have to pay for it.

i wouldnt join but someone who would can and they can flash their membership card and look cool to the kids at local shows.

I have said this before, and I will say it again. These are my points:

1. Bands do not make anywhere near as much money as they seem to.
2. With the amount that was downloaded illegally from the prior 2 albums, I dont doubt that there is good reason for charging so much for the DVD's.
3. ToolArmy really hold it at their discression whether or not to offer Pre Sales. Consider this. The majority of us here have already heard or downloaded the album leak, so we can all consider the effort to have to fight to get tickets as our punishment.
4. Live shows are increasingly more expensive with pulbic liability, and the fact that wages are different in all states, and venue costs are rising. They charge alot of money for their shows because their shows are amazing.

I am not saying that I am innocent, I have heard the new album, and I love it. But as a whole, we all need to think about how much we are all ripping them off, and looking for leaks. People, remember that to hold any of their music before the release date is theft, we are stealing from this band we all love, so if they do cark it early, if they do charge exsessive prices for their CD's and DVD's and live shows, then they are only doing so because they need to live.
In order to make an album, the band needs to pay for everything. Production, engineers, recording space, recording equipment, their time too which is money. They then need to pay for mastering, then cover design. They then need to pay for printing of the cover, CD duplication, then distribution. most bands these days, in Australian dollars only get to see a dollar per CD sold... the rest covers costs of touring, etc....
To tour a record, they need to purchase/hire equipment. In tools case, this is stage equipment, screens, etc. They also need to hire/employ a technician for their shows. Road Crew, who are usually on an hourly rate. They also need to hire the venues to host the show. Only smaller venues pay to have the band perform. They also need to pay for accomidation. usually a rider does not get bands by, as people are usually stingy with this. They need to eat out. Eating fast food is bad for you when you are on tour, so you need to eat healthy. Anyone on a diet knows that trying to eat healthy when eating out usually means paying for a decent meal at a resturaunt. This adds up. Then, with each show, they need to anticipate the amount of people they believe will show up, and work out a break even point with ticket prices. They need to play it safe so that they make enough money to live on, and put into a new record, if that is the case.

This is all alot of money people. Not to mention the amount of time that a band spends away from home. Some bands spend up to a year at a time away from their home, in order to please us, the fans. People can say that Tool are doing this for themselves, but in a nutshell, if a band wasnt touring, they would be broke. I have no doubt that in a way, they are doing this for themselves. But at the same time, I can guaruntee that if we all did right by them, didnt download their stuff, that we would have known alot more about the album before hand, we might even know about theDVD, and ticket prices may even be cheaper, because they might had not lost out on so much. A band sees a leak as loss of money. In this case, I can guaruntee that while people have the album on their computers/ipods/etc before release date, alot of them arent going to be bothered buying the album because they can already listen to it. This is how it works, they work on what they know is happening.

In a nutshell, like I said, I am not innocent, but not many other people are. If we want to blame anyone for high prices, no presales, no info, no Tool Army benifits that are better than a badge, then ask yourself, is this all of our doing.

Sorry about the length of this, i just think people need to stop blaming the band. They are tired most of the time, and work damn hard. In the process, they produce music that is art. Dont slag them off.

1. They have plenty of money...the middle class dont open vinyards.

2. If youre going to use a medium to try to make money off your fans' mutual respct for your work then its only reasonable that those fan's would use that same medium to not pay for your music as Karmic refund.

...that said after a "proper" dose of LK/RS I have to admit I'm quickly feeling like a fanboy again
...yes I know its a redigest of previous works but its all the best parts.

im not a member of TA, nor do i own both the lil dvd singles. ive only spent money on opiate, undertow, aenima, lateralus, salival, and 10000 days. and when they come around for the 10000 days tour, the tickets will not be 66 dollars. i dont really mind paying to see them. i dont expect special treatment. i dont want the band sucking my cock just for me to listen to their music. they have offered their work, and i have paid, and enjoyed it. who gives a shit if the only way pearl jam can entice new members is by offering tons of free unreleased songs over their fanclub. tool doesnt need to offer that kind of shit, cause the stuff thats out there is already good enough.

Tool dont offer crappy gimmicks, free shit to entice fans, all that bullshit because they are Tool. If you want to listen to them, then go ahead. If you want to rip them off, go ahead. But if you do rip them off, know that they may very well not catch you, but they will more than likely remove benifits for other people who quite possibly are being honest.

All of you saying that $65 is a bargain for a concert ticket are complete idiots.

That, or you never go to concerts and therefore have no idea how much concert tickets usually cost.
