Everyone seems to be talking about how this Adam's album, how Adam really shines on this album etc etc.
To me this is: Justin's album. Not only the basslines from 10,000 Days, but these little touches he does here and there and this amazing interplay with the vocals (Rosetta Stoned, The Pot, and lots of other places). I think if anyone is the star of this album, it's Justin. I think he's really exceeded himself here.
Oh, and if this thread has already been done, feed me cactus.

I agree with aggroculture - there are places where Justin is all over the place, way up front and he plays in such a way that I forget we need a lead guitar:)

don't know about being the best player today. Sean Malone is still alive and writing out the next GKIII :P but yeah .......
I see whatcha mean. Justin saves the album quite a few times.

It's all about Justin on this album. That was my overwhelming thought from listening to it for the first time. And many listens later, it's still true. He's stepped it up at least a couple of notches for 10,000 Days. The groove on the title track/s is truly awesome.
And I'm an Adam-dedicated guitarist. Time to add a bass to the collection.

Yep, I think that Justin has well and truly come into this own on this album. He was good before, but now he's stepped up to near the top.

I also think this is a Justin album, the bass is just amazing.
I mean, that bit in 10,000 Days where Maynard sings 'Fetch me the father..' and Justin just flows with Maynard perfectly, using notes that Tool have never even tried before.
Adam has stepped up, but he's still lazy, and a lot of the time he just plays the same thing while everyone else changes, like that little part of 10,000 Days I mentioned.

I've said this before, but I think Adam was taken in by The Melvins, played on Pigs of the Roman Empire, and wanted to try his shtick in heavy loud guitar riffs again. I think Adam had the most say in the direction of the music.

i dont agree with the Adam bashing either. i think his playing on this album is more passionfelt than anything else he has done. but same can be said for Justin, i mean he is just absolutely amazing. in modern rock i have to believe he is the best. maynards lyrics are also fantastic. strangely enough it seems Danny is in the background most of all for this album, but he does get to play the Tabla on this album. It really is a Tool album, not just one of theirs.

it is all about synergy
the way these four come together
is absolutely profound. the way
they fit...even more so...
tool is adam's band though :P he
made all the calls
but if i had to pick one of them...that
totally catapulted the album into
greatness...JC would be the man

I don't think 10,000 days is Adam's best work...Justin's bottomfeeder made more of an impression on me than Adam.

I think everybody in the band has had these little revolutions. Adam on Aenima. Danny on Lateralus. And yes, Justin on 10,000 Days. I think if I could sit down and talk to anyone in the band it would be Justin...because..well he doesn't say a lot and his character is a little bit more shadowed.

Adam has stepped it up a bit, and he is definitely more in the forefront than he was on previous albums. However, Justin shines on this one. The basslines in (the song) 10,000 days alone would be enough to make the statement "Justin rocks." Haha even if he didn't pick up a bass to play on the other 10 songs... I'd be like "damn, Justin rocked on that album"

so if Aenima is Adam's Album and Lateralus is Dannys album and 10,000 Days is Justins album, then Opiate is Maynards EP? i say yes, he is really awesome on Opiate, the reason why i like to listen to it.

Undertow - Adams album, Aenema - Maynards Album - Lateralus Justin's Album, 10k days - Danny's album. And I'm not talking about them owning the album, and standing out in particular as muscians, im refering to the imput of the idea of the album musically. I can't remember where i read it, but mjk i think it was, was talking about how lateralus was justins album. This is Danny's, all the signifigance with refering to the occult, extraterestrials and not to mention his drumming on this album IS far superior to anything he has done. Also, justin does stand out as being far "improved" in his playing, compared to the past. But EVERYONE stepped up for this album. Just remember reading that somewere, about the new one being danny's album.

Along the same lines, I would say that Undertow was really all about Maynard.

Actually undertow was more ABOUT paul's troubles, imo.

Oh, and if this thread has already been done, feed me cactus.

i dont think adam did anything super special. i really think justin stole the show.
