Summary: Maynard's new persona may be mimicking some gay bloke who impersonated a native american to sell books.
Apparently Lipan Conjuring was originally recorded by him also.

hard to summarise, best to read it all for yourself.

The pictures of this guy are what is most convincing. One picture of him with a mohawk, no shirt, tight jeans, and holding a glass of wine. Another picture of him in a cowboy hat which looks very similar to Maynard's. Interesting to note that this guy's father was named Maynard.

If there is a connection, you have to ask: why would Maynard take on the appearence of an elaborate hoaxer?

Would it be possible to track down an MP3 of the alleged "original" version of Lipan?

The pictures are quite uncanny as well, i should have mentioned that in my brief summary.
As to why Maynard would do such a thing? Fuck knows..... Why not, i'd guess.

Here's the wikipedia entry on the guy, its quite a messed up story.

Its certainly a possibility, and it looks like all this blew up in January, likely before promo shots etc. were done, and with ample time to add a segue to the album.

But isn't it also possible that Lipan and the Nasdijj chanting were simply different recordings of the same chant? I imagine that there are standard chants in given Indian tribe, Maybe this is like the most popular Navajo chant or something. Its kinda like, whenever you hear Japanese classical/folk music in the USA, nine times out of tne it is 'Sakura', which I believe is their national anthem. It seems like it is the most common song exported to our culture from theirs. Could be the same with this chant. Also, to us ignorant untrained ears, most Native American chants probably sound the same.

hahahaha. wonderful. this is the type of shit i expect from tool. very cool. i think we are far beyond coincidence here.

i've analyzed the lyrics (b/c i am a dork/have an english degree) and was always confused by the conflicting ideas in them. this would fit.

sotto always brings the interesting.

Wasn't it determined that the promo shots were done last summer?

After rereading the February newsletter I found this gem: "Evidently, there was a recall of a certain song or perhaps it was just an intro or segue OR... no, the recall couldn't be for Danny's ****!" Perhaps the recall was for Lipan Conjuring?
