Mastadon is playing in manchester while i'm there so i grabbed a ticket. just found out that Big Business will be the opening band - i'm pretty stoked for that. they opened for Tool in 2007 (i think) and then joined with the Melvins for a while.

I don't think it's any indication of a last album or not. I strongly doubt Maynard was doing anything other than taking the piss. If he is seriously having a go at Adam then I'd suggest that band is already over...but I doubt that.

I disagree with you. If Maynard has any feeling toward Adam similar to Adam's toward Maynard, then they will continue writing for a long time. Adam described his writing process as being like an oil painter, constantly getting rid of small sections and re-doing them so he can perfect the piece as a whole over time. Maynard, he said, can go in, sketch the work, paint it, and be done within a week--with the same degree of completeness. So I wouldn't say this is an aggressive jab at Adam, I think it's just Maynard poking fun at this slower process. But there is absolutely a lot of respect between the band members--it's just that I think Maynard is a lot less open about expressing that, and that's just his personality, but it doesn't strike me that he is unappreciative of the others' talents and their work all together.

I went to one of those VIP with Adam deals last tour, and he basically said he takes a lot of time to be sure everything is perfect, and MJK can do it with the same quality in a lot less time. No animosity, just different ways of getting to the same result.

it was a few months later at Cinquanta in LA when I completely blacked out (remembering not much) during the concert, and woke up with my phone and wallet missing. coincidentally Adam was also not seen at the concert. gotta love a good conspiracy theory eh?

I mean you're technically right, but being in a band goes way beyond being professional co workers. It's not the same at working in an office and only seeing each other eight hours a day, if that. Band mates spend more time together and that time is more intimate because they go through a lot together. So I don't think it's fair to treat their relationship to one another as merely a "work" one. Even though it's its own thing, being in a band would be more akin to being part of a sports team. You're closer to one another. Also, for a band all about compassion and letting go of grudges, it seems hypocritical.
