Maynard whimpering in the background, starts around 1:41
1:50-EKG monitor kicks in
2:00 Hospital fades in
Nurse:Excuse me, doctor, if you have a moment?
Doctor: A moment? Whats the question?
Nurse: More of a situation, a gentleman in exam 3.
Doctor: Whats the problem?
Nurse: That is the problem, Were not sure.
Doctor: Youve got the Chart?
Nurse: Right Here
Doctor: <Flips page> hmmmm.. Not much here, is there.
Nurse: No doctor, no obvious physical trauma, mmm vitals are stable.
Doctor: Name?
Nurse: No sir.
Doctor: Did someone drop him off, maybe we can speak to them? Lets get some background on this fellow.
Nurse: No ID, nothing, and he wont speak to anybody
Doctor: Well then, lets say hello
Doctor: <to maynard> Good morning, I'm Dr. Watson. How are you today? How Are you today? Look son, your in a safe place, we want to help you, in any whatever way we can. But you need to talk us, we cant help you otherwise. Now, Whats happened? Tell me everything.

I know, but the talking reminds me of Comfortably Numb and the voice of the doctor is similar to the guy who speaks several times on DSOTM.
Guess I should've been more clear.

i love it
if you listen to it it sounds like you could have just woken up or come off a trip in a hospital...
the "you need to talk to us. what's happened tell me everything" part makes me feel like i might be tripping and the stream of consciousness vocals to open the next song corroborate this.

yeah, it honestly feels like the noise you hear at the beginning is the main character (maynard) slowly coming into focus after a "long" night. i love how they added an element of story to rosetta stoned via this segue, i think it makes the song even better than it is. i enjoy listening to it, knowing that its a story being told by a fucked up patient to a confused doctor. imagine standing infront of some guy and he starts talking to you like that..... lol. it'd freak me out.

It's a seguey (sp?) into the next song Rosetta Stoned, which is about Maynard (?) in a dream/abduction/trip.
It makes sense to me, in a backwards, toolish sort of way.
He wakes up in a hospital, the doctors are asking him questions, etc. which leads to the explanation (rosetta stoned) of why he's there.
Yes/no?

could definitely be... I saw some videos in a war class of mine of people suffering from this (also known as shrapnel syndrom, coming from the fact that a lot of these patients were suffering from lead poisoning due to the shrapnel from grenades) and it looked like a lot of them were tripping. They were way out of their element, not just sad or whatever, but completely lost it. And maybe when the doctor finally asks him to tell him everything, he just lets it all out at once, or as fast as his voice will allow anyways.... fucking GREAT pair of songs :)

Would the person on lsd have completely normal vitals? Obviously, nothing's wrong with this guy physically. It seems more mental to me. This is why I don't want to jump to the conclusion that he's on lsd.

because of a hint of the words "area 51" on the rosetta stoned track, i believe this man is supposed to be an alien abductee. he is clearly disoriented, as well as in a hypertensive state of breathing, mentally locked, and when the doctor asks him to tell them everything, he snaps and does just that, on the next track, rosetta stoned.
anyone?

I know it's an APC song, but this song seems to refer to "The Nurse Who Loved Me." Think about it... in "Lost Keys" he says "say hello" and that is in "The Nurse Who Loved Me." In "The Nurse Who Loved Me" she had everything he needed, "Pharmacy Keys" (which I think refers to sustaining addiction). Perhaps lost keys could be a metaphor for getting clean and he is in the hospital to be rehibilitated. Just a thought.

Not saying that Maynard isn't making an allusion to that song, but FYI, TNWLM is originally a song from a band named Failure who toured with Tool back in, I believe, '96. It's entirely possible, given that Rosetta Stoned is a bunch of quotes and influences put together, but I think it might be a far-fetched stretch.

Doctor: Did someone drop him off? Maybe we could speak to them. Let's get some background on this fella.
Nurse: No ID. Nothing, and he won't speak to anybody.
Doctor: Well, let's say hello. Good Morning, I'm Dr. Lawson. How are you today? How are you today? Look son, you're in a safe place. We wanna help in whatever way we can. But you need to talk to us. We can't help you otherwise. What's happened? Tell me everything.

Re: Lyrics
Nurse: Excuse me? Doctor? Do you have a moment?
Doctor: A moment? What's the question?
Nurse: More of a situation, a gentleman in exam 3
Doctor: What's the problem?
Nurse: That is the problem, we're not sure.
Doctor: You got the chart?
Nurse: Right here.
Doctor: Not much here to say
Nurse: No doctor, no obvious physical
trauma. Vitals are stable.
Doctor: Name?
Nurse: No sir.

I think that Maynard is trying to keep APC and TOOL as two seperate entities. I definantly don't think Adam would agree with any cross of the two bands...

Does anyone else think that the doctor says his name is <b>"Dr. rosetta"</b> (Ross-etta)?
Just giving my input to try and get acurate lyrics.
It's a hard one to make out!!! Not half as hard as the start of rosetta stoned though!! lol
