Does anyone else (who's "slowing it down" or seperating sounds) hear him say;"How we'an follow the path of our saviour"...obviously "we'an/we'n" is the word/sound in question.

I hear that sound even without slowing it down. Dunno if it's actually a word or faux-word or perhaps just strange enunciation a la Maynard.

But, I've definitely heard the sound that you're suggesting.

It's the 'z' sound at the end of "is" that is interfering with being able to hear the 'th' sound (which is kind of buzzy, like a 'z', in words like "the") at the beginning of "the" --- or maybe it's not interfering and he just sung it slurring the 'z' sound from "is" and the 'th' sound from "the". - I mean, it's not implausible at all.

Now I know it's not your contension, that everytime the man sings "is the" it's gonna sound like "is a". But it sounds like that's what your telling me, and it's just way too easy to sing "is the". There's no reason to stop your z-sound to pronunciate the th-sound, he's neither hurried nor competing w/ other sounds (comparitively speaking, he's used to "competing" w/ some heavy shit)
...because it sounds like "iza" you're telling me I'm mistaken? No, it's sertainly not implausible, however improbable.

I think that's it. Clearly about his mother dying, full of self-righteous belief in Christianity but some kind of acceptance that that's not necessarily a bad thing. Much more tolerent of her faith than in 'Judith'. Makes me think of how I'll feel when my very religious father dies. Weird, I know, but true.

i've just recently heard this particular track from tool and what an exceptional piece of work it is. the quality throughout is difficult to quantify because of the range of emotions that ebbs and flows through it.
i've viewed some of the opinions & queries through this long thread and i wonder..? the depravity in precise detail most try to extract from the piece is ironically mirrored in the lyrics "... blinded by choices hyprocites wont see..."
cant you sit back and allow the song wash over you? do you appreciate the mans poetic genuis? & the vocal talents this man possess? there is such a deep level of spirituality to this song that i've never encountered.. the chanting throughout brings it to heights unscaled. he's approaching from a different realm.
there's a silky yet masculine quality to his voice. and listening to it, do i hear a lisp? how does he carry it off so well? i hear genius

I think I can speak for us all when I say that, yes you're definitely correct about "poetic genius", and "vocal talents". ^ I think it could be "lives" rather than "eyes" - it would have the same meaning, i.e. more or less equivalent to "attention". You wouldn't expect to hear the "L" after the "R" in "our", and I can kinda hear a "V" rather than a "Y" in "eyes/lives".

i used to think "lives", but i think i hear "eyes" pretty clearly...

That aside, I hear 'our lives' because I can distinctly hear a 'v' sound; but, I believe it may actually 'our eyes' or 'all eyes' - the vocal slur right there is so non-descript that you can't really definitively say it's one or the other, though.
