Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
When I saw Tool in Hawaii they had no support and people were going nuts screaming and yelling because they had nothing to distract themselves with. It was quite odd, sitting in a concert hall with no one on stage yet listening to the crowd bellowing away.

All seated, so most people were sitting down with the exception of drunk frat boys waving their arms in the air and yelling "TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL". I didn't feel like being a douchebag and joining them. Sorry to disappoint.
There was no support so they came on about 8.30, 8.45, not that much earlier than normal.

Kinda random here, but anyone got any advice for me n my mate while were in sydney?? Things to do/see, and also, whats the go with australia day, is there usually a stand-out event on?? Weve never been to sydney, and wana make the absolute most of it while were there. Were gonna be there for a week, from the 22nd to the 28th.
PS: Aside from australia day, what would you recommend as a must see place/thing in sydney, or anywhere around there. Would also be very keen on natural stuff, like mountain ranges etc etc etc. ANYTHING, lol.

I'd say theres a good chance they'll play Right in Two at either SYD or MEL but not both. Also very unlikely they'll vary the BDO set lists so any variation would be hoped for in the side shows. I'm seeing them in AKL, SYD side and SYD BDO so it would nice to see a little bit of variation but I'm not holding out for it after last years set lists. That said, they've had a decent break to possibly rehearse a little and as such possibly prepare some older songs they haven't played on the tour.
I hear the reason they haven't really changed the set list much is because Adam is happy with the visuals and hasn't had time/doesn't want to change them to fit new songs. They may change the set up though, seeing as they did when they went to Europe.

LOL, yeh but were not up for paying scalpers again, lol, gna go to the perth one anyway, so were kinda wanting to do some non-concert stuff (apart from maybe a rave, DnB preferred, but Hard Trance would be very welcome too).

If you want mountains (and you are in Sydney for a week) maybe you should think about the Blue Mountains. They are 80 km west of Sydney. GORGEOUS. Katoomba is very cool (three sisters etc) but my favourite place in the whole world is Jenolan Caves and they are well worth the effort.

I am curious to juniors actual knowledge on the topic of why the setlist hasn't changed, I am slightly more eager to find out what the setlist will be in goldy, but i am quite happy to just ask one question at a time.j junior is either a person in the right place for this knowledge, or a creative liar who at least should be posting more often than he has. There is always a need for more creative lies.
I am not going to be at sydney, i just like knowing useless crap that will be answered in a short time

No lie. He's been their lighting guy for 10 years.

Well, if you are their lighting guy you probably know why their setlists have been almost like carbon-copies of one another. What's the deal? Can we expect a change-up with the new year like they did in '02?

Hey um.. If you like DNB theres an event on Saturday nights called "DNBBQ" which is very popular i think it's at the abercrombie hotel in broadway, i have many mates who talk it up but never been myself. If your after hard trance i can recommend Home nightclub (cocklebay wharf) which hosts "Sublime" every friday night, really nice venue with a view of the harbour by the outdoor "chillout area" only thing is 80% of people will be on pills so if thats not your thing maybe steer clear hehe.. Just hit them up in google if you want info, both walking distance from the city. If your after good food and a bit of laid back culture check out Newtown, it's a really nice area (5 mins cab from city central or 20ish mins walk) they have a "Hippy high herb" shop there which sells all sorts of legal herbs hehe some interesting stuff there.. Asides from that yeh not sure, if your really bored you can check our band play out at the Gaelic club saturday 27th :P We are sorta bluesy grunge pop (lol...) it's great fun.

This is the first I've heard about this, i never really considered it.. hmm could definitely be a possibility.
Although in interviews whenever questioned about the setlist Maynard says it's because of his voice and that he can only handle performing certain tracks. He can scream for a whole set or sing for a whole set but can't do both together.. So tell me then why can't they play tracks like the patient or Pushit? I think junior is right, regardless of where this info was sourced it answers questions..
Tool want to blow you away live and this setlist/lighting show perfected in every way they are able to accomplish this..

No support act? Gotta be joking... *sigh*
On a side note - Slayer are coming out in April with Mastodon supporting... not a huge follower of either but hell - i reckon it'd be a pretty insane little gig... at the Horden. Go check ticketek.

Personally, since I'm going to the Big Day Out the next day, I couldn't care less if there was no support act. It just means Tool get on quicker.
Anyway, chances are whoever they put on as support would be a band I'm not interested in seeing anyway.

Call me ignorant, call me what you will ( do you think I fuckin' care!), but who is actually supporting the best band in the world on Wednesday? I don't care because I'll be there, no matter what! You don't travel 2000 k's for nothin'!!!

Exactly. Im going to a TOOL concert. I have been waiting for 5 years to listen to TOOL play live, i dont give a FUK about opening bands, honestly, could be the flairs for all i care, lol. Hell, at least thatd give us someone to throw shit at for 45 min or so, lol.
Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
Hell yeah! Do you guys think that Tool at the BDO will be better than a stand alone side gig? In my opinion, Tool would be the BDO, so, I aint missin' out on nothin'! (in that regard). I can't wait for next Wednesday - been waiting soooo long for this!
