I just read on Fourth Eye and in the January Tool Newsletter on toolband that if you put a UV light on the tour posters you will see either some signatures or a message. Has anyone done this yet? If so can you post a pic of it? Living on the West Coast I am extremely disappointed I didn't get a chance to see them this tour, especially some of my fav songs being played. Thanks in advance.
Undertow came out when I was in high school, I bought the cd for home, but had to record it onto a tape to listen to in my car!
Aenima came out my freshman year in college, and there were alot of nights spent ingesting hallucinogens & listening to that album. There will never be another album that impacts my life like that album did, and that's the beauty of my opinion, it's mine!
Lateralus is my 4th favorite Tool album after Undertow (#2) & 10,000 (3, obvisously), but if Lateralus is someone else's favorite, than good for that person, right on!
Their music is so dyamic & beautiful, there's no describing it. Last Saturday night in Boston totally renewed my faith in them live. Can't wait for a new album & future shows (if either ever happen, they are getting to an age where I wouldn't be surprised if they call it quits in the next few years. )

Skipped to the end of the thread.. Havent read a single post... We get the last show in ATL.. Just tell me, will my mind be blown? :D Im stoked either way, as Im taking a friend who's never seen them live so just to see her reactions will be badass in itself..
I have been reading all the tour reviews and i must say i can't believe some of the negative comments about the shows. People whining "Maynard didn't even speak, left right after the encore, he didn't thank us for coming, he wasn't into the show, blah, blah, blah" Let me just ask some of you - "when you bought your ticket, you did know tool was the band right?" ....i mean if you are a true fan you know how Maynard is on stage, you know what kind of show to expect. Maynard has said several times that he stays off to the back of the stage because the show is not about him, its about the music! Maybe some of these supposed tool fans should stick with going to see shinedown or buck cherry so they can feel some love from the band and get some self-gradification! Honestly, i THANK TOOL for actually making music that is thought provoking and technically superior to ANYTHING out there these days. If the way tool performs is not your idea of a great show, you know what then, don't buy a ticket next time, k?
guess i didn't really post this in the right section, i guess i got a little fired up after reading all those shitty reviews, i take my tool seriously! :|
he doesnt stay around after the show and doesnt go in the light anymore to save people from saying to themselves "damn these guys got old." its bullshit mindgames but it keeps as many people still into them as possible.

feeling more and more grateful for the setlist TO got as the tour goes on
funny how we only learn to appreciate things after the fact. i feel silly for whining like a bitch in my review, even if it was done slightly tongue-in-cheek.
Nothing wrong with a little tongue-in-cheek.......
I loved tool since opiate... the later albums aren't quite as good to me.... but the younger crowd seems to love it and it is the shit... it just gets a little too much pink floyd noise shit for me personally. I'm going to the show on the sixth... can't wait.
Nothing in the Hampton Virginia concert review thread. Whats up with that ? I will be giving my review after the charlotte nc show tonight . Whats up Kanaduh ?

"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But there’s a big chunk of their fan base that think they’ve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."
Went to the charlotte nc show last night . And it was a great show . I have read some negative reviews about the band not getting along and Maynard leaving after the shows without no acknowledgement of the fans . Thats not what I saw last night . Justin was sticking his tounge out at Maynard and Danny during schism and he continued to make faces all night . All smiles from everyone and they all seemed to be enjoying the moment together . After the show Maynard talked to Adam and pointed to each section and traced the rows of fans five slapped Danny and left . The crowd was great and fist pumping to the beat all night maybe the crowd has something to do with there response . I dont know . All I do know is I had a great time and Tool seem to be a healthy well oiled machine going into Florida . I get to see the last show in Duluth GA . Hopefully I can get a signed poster there . I got a unsigned poster last night . I stayed at the merch booth till 9:10 the posters arrived via airplane sometime after that and the band was on stage so they had no signed posters for Charlotte however mine is numbered 327/500 .

I used to spend a lot of time in your neck of the woods around this time of year - swimming with the sea cows.
:)
Really, that's cool. Don't know when it was that you were last out, but they are redoing the Three Sisters Springs Area, adding a look-out and some other cool features for viewing the manatee. But of course you can't beat jumping into the water and swimming with them (definitely a cool experience).
Judging the past week's setlist posts it looks like Ticks And Leeches has been replaced with Sober. I'm guessing here but I suppose this song is straining Maynards vocals a bit.
Even though I bitched about the setlist at the show I attended (Boston 1/28) I did enjoy Ticks and Leeches, but would of much perferred anything off of Undertow-even an overplayed Sober.
Someone posted a list of songs they haven't played in forever, and thats a great post. Just look at the cailber of songs they are NOT playing such as H, Eulogy, Prison Sex. They need to change their approach to the live setlists.
^^^^ How could you and other people honestly bitch about this set list? I dont understand. Are people pissed that they dont play a diff set every night? I mean who goes too every show? This set is by far the best set they have played since the lateralus days... yet people still bitch? I can understand bitching in late 2007 or in 2009 but now? these guys are all ~50 years old.... you can't really expect them to play like it was 1998 anymore. maynard is not going to sing jerk off or sweat again.. but then again who the fuck knows? didnt expect hooker or ticks ever again either.
The shows are still freaking fantastic but in a different way none the less. quit your fucking bitching and appreciate great music when you hear it.

I don't know. I think it may be fair to complain that like 50% of the setlist is the same since 2001 and much shorter than it was back then. Did you see the list of great songs they haven't played in forever.
Mind you I'm not complaining. I loved the show I saw but i understand where people are coming from.
What baffles me is that a few friends of mine, who were admittedly tired of Schism and 46&2, came back saying that those two songs were the highlight of the set. Don't get me wrong, they're great songs, Danny's drum roll is always a personal highlight.
However, when they dust off the old gems and make 'em shine like they were brand new, it's just jaw dropping. Hearing the precision of Danny's drumming on T&L along with the technically flawless Pushit, it really just drops your jaw. Not to mention the initial shock value of Hooker.
What impresses me is the sound quality of the lesser played tracks. Most bands have songs that just don't translate well live. For Tool, it's the complete opposite. Every song sounds better than the album version. It really makes you want to hear their entire catalogue.

Metallica is 50 years old and still playing songs off their first 2 albums. Pearl Jam is nearing 50 and plays for 3 hours each night including an average of 7 songs from their first two albums. Soundgarden who just reunited a year ago plays 11 songs on average from their first 2 albums and first EP. Stone Temple Pilots plays an average of 6 songs off their first two albums each concert. (source reference-setlist.fm)
Point is-They cannot just "ignore" their first two albums. It's insulting to the fans. The argument oh they have a different bassist is not relevant. They were playing these songs when Justin came on board. What if Metallica said "oh we're not going to play anything from the era of Jason Newsted or Cliff Burton"?

They can do whatever they want. Not really sure how ignoring old songs is insulting to the fans. Tool have made a living ignoring largely what the fans want, and I don't see why they'd change any time soon.

It's insulting because I've been a fan of the band since 1994. Not playing anything (or just one song depending on which show you attended this year) is poor. I'm sure Metallica is sick of playing Seek and Destroy, Slayer is tired of playing Angel of Death etc etc. If the fans of Tool are such homers that the band can do no wrong well that's their opinion. For the $65 bucks I spent for a bad balcony seat I expect the band to at least play for 2 hours which would allow them to throw in a song from Opiate or Undertow. Every band has their "staple" songs which they'll play each night-For Tool I would say those are 46-2, Aenema and Stinkfist. Sure it was nice to hear Hooker with a Penis and Ticks and Leeches but only 10 songs total was a flat out ripoff.
There's a reason I haven't gone to see Tool in 10 years and 95% of the reason is the poor setlists.

Let's be real, the first two albums are musically inferior. They're full of angst and attitude, the band grew up. Sorry if you didn't.
And the average Tool song is about twice the length as any other song, so the number ten is deceptive.

I've seen these guys well over a dozen times dating back to 94' and I don't feel at all dissapointed by anything they do or have done at any time in their carreer live or otherwise. Its why they are my favorite band. Thanks guys for this cool little tour and for a chance to start the year off with a reminder of why music is so important!
i think voicing negativity is a lot easier and has more motivation to express thier frustration than voicing positivity. one thing that i took away from seeing tool in jersey last week was damn, tool still has a huge fallowing of devoted fans. huge fallowing. people of all ages types and walks of life. there are so many people that had thier mind blown that dont come here and yell "I got my mind blown!" with as many fans as tool has of course there is going to be as much negativity as we have seen/see here

While i do agree for the most part I love undertow so much and it's soo unappreciated. Make me sad. Undertow, 4 degrees, intolerance, Flood, Prison sex all amazing songs that deserve to be heard live still
First off everybody is entitled to their opinion and should be able to come here and express it without someone else getting all up in arms and attacking him/her for it.
There are a lot of folks here in the "Tool can do no wrong camp" and many who long for the "good old days" when MJK was out front and they only had 2.5 albums to cull from.
I saw one post that stated this past tour had the best set list in years. Great opinion.
But not one I share.
Third Eye - The Patient - Intolerance >>> HWAP- Pushit - T&L. Every day of the week in my opinion. Especially if you were actually there.
Who has some thoughts on my T&L was dropped? Hard on May May's voice? Or maybe because it just didnt sound that good?
and yes I believe that $90 mins for $80 is a short set (a bit of a rip off.) By any standards in hard rock.
I'm not hearbroken that they ignore Undertow despite the examples above, many, many band ignore thier first albums. Hell Judas Priest ignored their first album for like 30 years before they decided to break out 1 song from it.

I agree, I was quite happy with the setlists we got in Oz last year. Especially when you consider we also got Flood, Right In Two, Intension and You Lied. That said, all six of those songs mentioned I'd be quite happy to see in any setlist.

My thoughts are that they just wanted to play some different songs, rather than some underlying issue with Maynard's voice. Personally I thought T&L sounded much better than HWAP vocally.
Also, considering they've played Intolerance, Flood and Sober on the last two tours, it's hard to agree that Undertow has been ignored. Opiate yes, but not Undertow.
