I swear Maynard used AutoTune on first night in SF..forget which song it was on. And setlist isn't gonna change until new album. And even then you can almost guarantee they will only add a few new songs and play Lateralus. .Aenima...46 and 2 etc...We need to realize this is probaly last TOOL album. I wish before these kids go retire they do an " albums in their entirety " tour. Now that I would pay top dollar for.

That would be awesome, but at the same time, some songs are impossible to play at this point. Either Maynard can't sing them, or won't--Wings for Marie being an example--regardless of the other members' abilities to play the pieces.

Why does everyone think this will be their last album? They've given no indication of this, it's all just drama queen fan created nonsense because it takes them forever to write an album. They're not old, 50 is the new 30!

Odets Urungus has died. NO way GWAR goes on without him. This sucks. I once saw Green Jello open for GWAR, around 1990. I've always wondered if Maynard and Danny were there.

Has anyone heard the great boot from the first SF show?

I will say one thing, for all the disappointment over the setlists rarely changing (which isn't anything new at all, its always been this way)....STILL if there is one advantage to playing Forty Six & Two at basically ever single show since 1996 - it's that I've never ever heard it sound better.

The version on the bootleg is tight as fuck. They've fine tunes that one to perfection.

Also,

I don't get what is so much more vocally taxing about Eulogy over any of their other songs, I just don't.

Does it have any giant screams and harmonies that would tax MJK's voice more than say Third Eye?

Not that the band have ever done many things because the fans want em too, but they must know people would kind of shit their pants if they brought Eulogy back.

Having seen them 20 times, and most of those were Undertow/Aenima, I also don't see why they stick to a set setlist. Hell, I saw Soundgarden last February and they played 26 songs from over their entire career and they sounded better than ever! Tool I am sure can do the same thing, yet they don't. I understand the lighting and visuals play a major role too, limiting the changing of set lists show to show, but being out of the spotlight for so long should invigorate a band to reach back AND forward and bring something new to the table

But, no. He is no using an auto-tune. Maynards voice would make it too apparent. There would be no way to hide it. It would be instantly evident once the tuner grabbed the note.

I find that he doesn't have pitch issues attaining his high notes. He still hits the top in Pushit. It's the songs he's put on record that hit high pitch AND he's yelling (chorus of Eulogy/basically ALL of the Grudge/A LOT of Undertow/choruses of Parabola.) The problem is, at 50 fucking years old, he blows a tire trying to hit one of those notes, show is over. He goes home. And you're bitching on here.

Pull up the videos from 10/1/2001 from night one of Madison Square Garden. He struggled to sing Undertow and Eulogy then. That's almost 13 years ago. (That show was magnificent, btw. Possibly my favorite of all time. I wonder if Junior would agree it's up there.) He has admitted more then enough times his throat is shot. I'm thankful he still does this at all.

Kraftwerk in 2D were fantastic. I'd love them to do a 3D show here...

No Vicarious last night, hey? I won't be disappointed in the slightest when the new record cycle begins, and that tune gets shoved in the storage locker for ever and ever. That song is borderline not-good (for a Tool song.) I hate the way the vocal was done on the record. I hate the way he sings it through the mega-phone now, and they play it too slow. RIP Vicarious.

Vicarious was ruined in 2009 when he started using the megaphone. It's just to dull nowadays.

I was just on vacation in Florida and heard a random DJ on the radio talking about the latest tour. He mentioned the last couple of show locations then said something about a "2 week span in the Midwest." I'm sure it was BS considering he also said they hadn't played anything from Undertow or Opiate on this tour, which they obviously have. Just relaying the rumor.

It's always been a dull, redundant song to me, and it's one, possibly the ONLY one I can think of that just never quite sounded right live. I don't know why he thinks that megaphone sounds good. His voice still sounds great on these songs. I get it on the Aenima songs that are actually tracked that way, but .. yeah.

DJ's rarely if ever check the facts on rumors they've heard. They are as bad, or worse, than 24 hour "news" channels and the internet.

Interesting. The one I'm referring to is Lateralus tour. I haven't been on a floor since. Who even knows who it belonged to at that point. A Mike Patton act of some sort!

My honest guess would be Reflection. And not for any sort of pitch correction, but in some sort of musical way. That song had a bunch of crazy awesome shit in it that they pulled off perfectly on stage.

Junior: What is one of your favorite show and why? Mine would probably me Long Beach 2002. Everything was perfect that night, brought my roommate and ever since then he's been a die hard Tool fan, just like me.

I found it. It was '02 Schism's first verse. He took the high line, the harmonizer hit the low. From '06 on, he would just sing the low line when it's the lead vocal in that verse. The vocal tracks on the record version of that song are just bananas.

Edit: Actually, wrong. I think he's playing his vocal harmonies on the Steinberger. (which, he never did after the '02 shows.) I give up. Oh well.

Maynard has never, and currently does not use any from of auto-tune, just a very occasional harmonizer. Somewhere. Who gives a shit.

"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But there’s a big chunk of their fan base that think they’ve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."

I can't think of a specific one. I don't think we (production) are ever 100% satisfied with the show and are always trying to get there. That gives us something to chase, I suppose. Always adding little things and making refinements.
Sometimes it feels like a step sideways or backward.
