haha, I enjoy it. I thought the latest newsletter was especially informative. Not about tool though, which is probably why the masses hate the newsletters, or so it seems. Pretty much all of the literature Blair references is worth a read (not just in this newsletter), and that will lead you to some realizations about the newsletters and other things, I imagine. You just gotta remember it's Blair and if he's friends with the band there's a good chance he's as crazy as they are. I don't know for a fact that the members of TOOL are a little off their rockers but I am simply guessing because in my past experiences I've seen that highly artistic people are very different (wierd) than most humans.
P.S. Junior, you are the shit. I'm sure you already know but you have been putting on some of the most epic rock concerts of all time. Thanks alot. Thanks for posting here so much too.

we all go on with our lives as though we had never allowed ourselves to believe any of this in the first place.

I'd rather wait a while for another good quality album than get a rush job and an album that is not very good as a finale.
No Doubt this would probably be the last album and tour so they may as well make it a good send off.

Well if you think about this VERY moment, we only have a 3 year wait at this point. 10,000 Days was released in 2006, its already 2008. Its been a 5 year pattern since after Aenima, so I dont think it would change. It will be just in time for 2012 :] I'm sure it will be an epic soundtrack for when change finally comes through our shadows ;)

By George, I think you've got it! Who knew the return of Quetzalcoatl would really be the album to end all albums. Anyway, the time period presented here gives me even more reasons to look foward to that moment, whatever it might bring.

Blair, I thought the alternate universe was really The Territories....MJK's juice is what takes you There and Back...And that latest pic is really Justin and Danny's twinners, no?
They're not over there there looking for Diamond Dust so they can save the Queen and begin recording the soundtrack to.....you know.....

I'm pretty stoked that they have plans to continue wreaking their majik havoc. Whether it takes one or ten years to complete, I'm all about more TOOL. Sure, I probably have an unhealthy obsession. Hell, I could be writing my own music right now, rather than spouting off nonsense to people whom I've never met before... their music's just that good! LOL/ROFL/LMAYONAISE!

threre music is just that good, i can wait another 10 years if i have to but i really really dont want to. nothing compares to the chemistry with one another, they are connected in a way that is so uncommon that it probably wont happen again in my lifetime.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Maynard's first appearance to the Grammys. Then he announced Tool is starting a new album. What a great day. Hopefully this isn't like him "finding Jesus" like he said before.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
i bought a dvd of tool playing in concert from 2002...in that dvd, during one of their short jams/ambient noise between songs, lo and behold if i don't hear them riffing wings for marie...that was four years before the release of 10,000 days...i wouldn't be suprised if they didn't already have the groundwork for at least half of a new cd already...on that note....hurry up boys, we can't wait for the new release and subsequent world tour....can i get a hellyeah??????????????????????

Hi junior,
Do you happen to know why the video screens were only 1/4-1/2 the size at the Sept 2006 Oakland Arena show (hidden behind the stacks), and by the time they played Bill Graham civic in Dec 2007 they were full size?
The green lasers seemed less substantial at the Oakland show as well.

well, if anyone was going to crap on it....i'm glad it was a dude with some inside insight and not just some joe on his pc...but by saying groundwork i'm thinking (hoping)that out of all the tunes they played between songs on tour...they might have a little somethin somethin there. i mean if they're riffin wings in 02.....just wishful thinkin ...thanks for the input junior

We were trying something new in 2006 with the video and the entire stage for that matter. The concept was to have a very stark white stage with video playing on it, and the screen across the back was 56' wide and 6' tall. The reason for the short screen was that in many of the venues there was going to be seating behind the stage, and a taller screen would obstruct the view. That is also why there was no traditional backdrop, and instead we had the semi-transparent video strings (the ones everyone thought were Christmas lights).
When the tour went to Europe that fall, there wasn't going to be any rear of stage seating, so we added the new Alex Grey backdrop and made the rear screens taller (10'). It was decided that this looked better, so it carried over to the next leg of the US tour. When the 2007 US shows started we also added 2 side video screens to help address the visibility issues from the 2006 shows, and to give the show a little more variety.
The production for Tool shows has always progressed and evolved over the course of the tour. Despite anyone's opinions of the setlist, I think lights, video and lasers changed a little bit every day. The lasers just took awhile to come into their own, especially since they were a new element to the tour.

I just found this on ultimate-guitar.com
No joke.
Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan has told MTV.com that the band will soon be reconvening to start kicking around song ideas for the group's fifth studio album.
"We're going to start writing the new Tool record right away," he said.
Keenan didn't say when he expected the band to start tracking the effort, when it might be ready for release or what it might sound like. But with Tool's touring schedule wide open for the foreseeable future, he said it's time for the band to buckle down. He also elaborated on Tool's creative process.
"The music always comes first," Keenan said. "We all get in a room, shut out all the extra noises from the other people and what goes on outside the room and just focus on the four of us, where we are that day. And then we just start making sounds."

that vicarious jam could be something they work on though. it always reminded me of how they did wings back in the day. i never thought anything of it, and then it was a song. so i guess i can look for that.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Okay, so a new album is due and a tour will obviously follow. What material from 10,000 days do you think will regularly make the setlist on the new tour? You think they'll keep the staples from other albums (stinkfist, 46&2, schism, etc)? or will they change it up? (my fingers are crossed) It'll be interesting to see..... but all i want is to see Pushit live and i can die happy.

I think the only two songs from 10,000 Days that'll stay in the setlist will be Jambi and Vicarious, much like how only two songs from Lateralus were kept around during the 10,000 Days tour...It's possible you can see some of the other songs pop up now and again
