This statement has a double meaning.

One: It would seem that the only time most of us ever give pause from the distractions of our pathetic, matrix induced lives is to vouyeristically indulge in the trajedies of others (when the blood is flowing). This gives us both a false sense of security (thank god it was you and not me!) and fulfills an archetypal fascination with carnage. This behavior is most famously known from the coliseums of Rome, where "ordinary" people were fed gore by the shovel full and could not get enough. It was for the social entertainment of these people that men, men who were already prisoners and slaves, men who had already lost everything and possessed nothing in this world save for the fragile bonds they shared with one another within the confines of the Ludus, were forced to kill each other, the more brutal, the more favoured. This does not speak well of the collective conscousness (barely) of this world.

Two: My fear is that mankind shall not awaken from slumber and shake their "chains to earth as dew, which in sleep has fallen on you," until the climax of this war for our souls has been reached. At that point it will indeed be too late to save the majority of people currently residing on this planet from death, for just as they take their final pause and for the first time see the truth with their own eyes, the blood will indeed be flowing.
