Photo of the Day

This works well on another forum that I read, so I thought I'd give it a shot here.

THE IDEA
Basically, it's to share a single photo per day (no more, maybe less). It must be a photo that you took and, in posting it, you open yourself to technical and constructive criticism.

In return, you're free to discuss someone else's photo(s) and critique them.

THE RULES
1. One photo per day. Period.
2. No trolling, no flaming, no bullshit.

WHAT TO POST
Post a link to the image with the following info:
a. Date
b. Location
c. Short description

Use stashbox.org to host your images!

Additionally, feel free to share any exposure/EXIF data you may have:
a. Camera body make/model
b. Lens model
c. ISO
d. Focal length
e. Shutter / Aperture

This should be fun. Let's see how it goes.

Re: Photo of the Day

Here's a picture of my wife's cat (I guess it's mine, now, too) last night while she was kind enough to sit still (perched on the back of the couch) while I grabbed my camera. :)

Click here to see it. [stashbox.org]

(She was mid-yawn.)

EXIF Data
Body: Canon Digital Rebel XT
Lens: EF 50mm f/1.8 II
ISO: 1600 (should've used 800, but oh well.)
Focal Length: 50mm
Shutter/Aperture: 1/40, f/1.8

Here's another shot of the same cat taken a few seconds later:

EXIF data is basically the same. Only diff is exposure, but I don't have the original handy to check it. Sorry.

That's a great shot. I think I would've shifted the focus so the entire tab would be in focus (or the opening?), but I love it.

Great shot.

Yes it does some contrasting and other color adjustments and adds a little vignette to the corners. It's an action that replicates the Lomo camera style. You can download it at www.adobestudioexchange.com, it's just an action for Photoshop. They have a few different ones there, as well as hundres of other cool ones.

And yeah I know it's more than one but oh well. You'll have that.

Wow, these are all great shots. I really like the misty forest shot. Sorry if this is out of place in this thread, but I am going to purchase a digital camera before winter and wanted some feedback. I am not looking to spend an arm and a leg on it, but I want to get something good. I was considering a Canon a620. Anyone have thoughts on this? I have done a good bit of research....mainly on dpreview.com, but I was curious if you guys had heard any good/bad on this model or anything similar.

I bought my Canon PowerShot A85 about 2 years ago for 300 bucks. it can record video, only uses Compact Flash cards, has 3 different shutter speeds, other options, etc. 4 megapixel (its actually exactly 3.871488 megapixels) which is a max res of 2272x1704.

Its a good camera for recreational photography, though you'll probably want to spend an arm and a few legs for a professional quality camera if thats your thing. I'd really like the quality expensive cameras get...but damnit they cost so much.

edit: its probably important to note that this is my first and only camera -- ever. I know absolutely nothing about professional photography.

Re: Photo of the Day

Thx for the link SG and the follow up, Lab. I snowboard a lot and am looking for a camera that I can take some good actions shots with and get some video. Are there any specific canons that come immediately to mind for these two requests? I have looked some of this info up, but seeing as how you sold cameras I thought you might have thoughts of your own.
