yet I can't help but question the means you took to gather this information --- don't know if you should be 100% sure of ANYTHING when you're stoned in your car (esp. if this means solo hot-boxing)

Actually, I like the "Fatty" fingers thing, resembling corporate America. But, I really think it sounds like "Muddy" fingers. Hell, He's already eyeball deep in muddy waters, right? It's clear that he has dirt ALL over him and has no right to be criticizing me, so, why shouldn't his fingers be very muddy as well? Also, I'd like to add that I think the lyric is:

Steal, borrow, reap
Forsake your shady inference...

More to come...

I gotta make this quick so here it goes.

The last time he mentions the kangaroo, the lyrics say
"Kangaroo
[bestowed: "he's guilty as the government"
/ be stoned, he's guilty ask the government "

While I hear,
"Kangaroo,
Please dont, he's guilty as the government."

Just my 2 cents as well as my first post.

On the "Kangaroo" thing...

I am pretty sure that it is actually "Change a rule" instead of "Kangaroo."

That makes perfect sence, I hear that, and even though the kangaroo court thing sounds nice when you reach, the way it is used doesn't fit that well, as it is the whole process and not an individual.

It's kangaroo, you don't even have to reach for it to be kangaroo.

Wrong. Although I like it, but that's not what he sings.

jzs christ even with 18 pages in this thread it is still very "muddy" to make out what this song is really about. So far I'm convinced it generally has to do with the following terms :

-hypocrisy
-a show "trial"
-fabricated evidence
-a subjective verdict

but that's about it. Could be about 10.000 of cases, or perhaps not an actual trial but something like the WMD's in Iraq.

It's actually about all of these things, if you can relate to each and every one of them. Just like the vast majority of Tool's songs, It has only metaphoric content. In whichever way the song is most valuable to you, whether it be hipocrisy or otherwise, that is what the song actually means (to you). See what I mean?

It's quite possible now that you mention it. There a hell of a lot of "double meaning" ideas going around. In my own head as well. The pot calling the kettle black, but, You must've been high (on pot) sure, I can accept that theory.

It's absolutely 100 percent "beast on knees." Not only does it make perfect sense but it flows well in the song and the progression of the lyrics.

Re: 05 - The Pot lyrics

It's absolutely 100 percent "beast on knees." Not only does it make perfect sense but it flows well in the song and the progression of the lyrics.

i'm not 100% about most of these lyrics, as no one can be until they're officially released. That aside, I still don't hear the beast thing.

I do hear at the beginning:

"Steal, borrow reefer save your shady inference"

And at the end:

"Ganja please you must have been out your mind"

It seems to go along with the name of the song "The Pot"; he's refering to the Pot by it's other names.

This version seems to varify:

"Steal, borrow reefer save your shady inference"

no idea about the fingers though, it seems different from the studio version.

Honestly it could be either reaper or reefer, the pronunciations are so close. I just think reefer goes more with the flow of the song. Perhaps if someone explained what reaper could mean in the context of the song it would make more sense.

The person that is accused is calling the exact opposites to words. Steal: Borrow, Reaper: Saviour. Maynard is calling that a shady inference.

It's like the hypocrite says B when it is A, always changing things.
