EXACTLY. Here there's none of that insanity. It's possibly because it's not that big a deal for them here, cuz EVERYONE comes to europe, so if you miss them one time, u'll probably see them in 6-12 months. I had NO issues buying tickets to 2 of the 5 german dates they'll be playin in november/december...
a few months ago when I thought I wouldn't get to see Pearl Jam in Germany after the TenClub tix sold out in 30 minutes...I just jump on a random ticket selling site, and buy a bunch of tickets. It took like 1 month before it actually sold out.
In australia this shit is just way more nerve-wrecking than it should be! I was really looking forward to seeing Tool in my 'hometown' melb...and it would suck if BDO is the only option. But yeah..more shows are to be announced (inc. melb and syd)..so keep an eye out people!

And if they are playing the BDO (which seems obvious they are) why wouldn't they release details of the other stand alone shows? Why wait? Because there aren't any other stand alone shows. The other shows are the B fuckin DO and they can't announce that yet.
So I bought Sydney tickets today and I'll fly down there like I did for the Lateralus mini tour. If by chance they do announce a stand alone Brisbane show i'll have 4 Sydney tickets for sale (and they won't be going on ebay for a profit).
i think you are spot on there.. i also managed to get tickets for the sydney show, although up in the nosebleed section.
still hoping for a perth show, but afraid it will only be the bdo..
a request for the tour tho, bottom, without henry... would be a treat
"However be alert not alarmed, we’re expecting to announce more shows in Sydney and Melbourne shortly – stay tuned for details." Looking good. Hope TicketMaster doesn't completely fuck it up again.

Spent 4 hours in line to get my gold seats, they called "floor sold out" in about 5 mins i thought someone was just making a joke. I hope that "other show" isn't just the BDO, i'll hit up another entertainment cente gig fo sho!

Pretty certain these are going to all be Big Day Out dates, seems the very obvious but very sad answer.

well you did see them 5 times in Europe, there are loads of people who missed out who haven't just seen them 5 times.
Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
I think the most painful part of all about this, for me, is that I am having to the very reason this whole mess has started. Yes, that is right, I'm resorting to attempt buying tickets on Ebay :(.
I'm so unhappy about this whole thing. My frame of mind is quite torn about it, in that I REALLY want to see Tool in their correct/decent setting, but in doing so, because of this horrid scalping/ebay mess, I'm provoking and fuel-adding to the fire.
Sigh. I wish someone from their PR/Touring department would actually read these boards to see the grief we are going through. :\
Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
As someone mentioned before, the ticket limit is imposed by the promoter. clearly the promoters were too high to think of this, or maybe thought it would be funny to see how many tickets would end up on ebay as some sort of sick experiment.
Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
Well. I've officially given up guys. After sitting there on Ebay all day yesterday, watching my meager bids end up stomped on by people willing to pay $1000 for a single ticket, it's all over. I'm not going to see Tool at this rate :\. As for the Big Day Out? Well, it's unfortunate I guess. The gig is 9 times out of 10, shiteful. I've been to a few, swore I'd never go back. I feel the gig itself and vibe of the individuals around it will probably dilute the power of their performance, no matter what they do :(. I guess this is why I was so very surprised to hear they'd even CONSIDER a BDO...diluted stage, diluted set-times, diluted presence of being.
On the whole - one very unhappy and disappointed guy, who won't be able to experience his fave band the way he'd originally intended, if at all.
Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
All isn't lost man, tool love playing in aus, and i think if they came back twice in 2 years (as was the case last time), then there is still hope. All I hope is that I won't have to deal with shitty Ticketmaster again.
Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
lol, amoungst the rush for tickets and whatnot (scored floor by the way), i find myself totaly ignorant to certain details... or if anyone'd even hav a clue of em.

no idea who may be supporting them, doubt that will be determined for a few months yet. there will be alot of other bands around at that time for bdo, so could possibly be another big band. Still 5 months away, setlist could be completely different by then, hopefully.

YES - I would like to know who is supporting them too. Not that I REALLY care - it will just be a bonus. We were so lucky - it is the WEIRDEST thing - if we hadn't had a car accident on the Tuesday ...I don't think we would have got the tickets. It is so odd.
Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
Possible Support Band: Dont' really care as long as Tool come on at 9pm...
Possible Set-List:
I'd imagine it will be similar to what they are playing at the moment but hopefully it will include Wings/10,000 Days or just the latter... anyway, here's a rough guide as to what to expect song-wise:
Rosetta Stoned
Stinkfist
Forty Six & 2
The Pot
Jambi
Schism
Right In Two/Opiate
Sober
Lateralus
Vicarious
Aenema
Like I said above, hopefully they can find some room for the song 10,000 Days - that would be brilliant!
Maybe they'll change it up a bit (apparently they played The Grudge during soundcheck yesterday at their gig in Washington state...) but who knows?
January 24th at the Sydney Entertainment Centre - I can't wait!
(plus Melbourne the following week!)

Those are some damn fine seats!
The floor will be awesome but having seen Tool play live I can safely say that you will not be disappointed with the seats you have mentioned etc. You'll have an awesome view...

Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
I would have assumed the floor to be superior for this gig, but a lot of the random people i lined up with to buy tickets also said your better off in gold seating. I've never even been to the entertainment centre before so I'm going to have to take peoples word for it..
Anyone else whos been to see Tool there speak up ;)

I've seen a few gigs at the Sydney Entertainment Centre before - it depends on who's playing and what you're into.
For example, Tool - on the floor will be awesome but if they are doing a new stage show with projections on the stage floor etc. then seats will be good too. It doesn't really matter...
It's a good venue because it holds the right amount of people. The Sydney Superdome (now Acer Arena) is too big for some bands like Tool as it would suck to be right up the back of that venue for a Tool show.
Unless you are in the very last few rows at the S.E.C. you will have a good view and experience etc.
It holds about 12,000 people which is absolutely perfect for Tool given their popularity here. It will be an awesome show...
... and then I'm off to Melbourne!

Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
Ive seen Tool twice at SEC, both times had side seats in the first tier towards the front. Most of the seats are pretty good apart from the nose bleed ones right up the back, the only problem i had with the close up side seats is that Tool play at an incredibly loud volume and these seats are pretty close to the PA, so if u dont mind ur ears getting hammered it's all good. Ive got 4 GA seats if anyone was thinking about trading for seats.

Lol, im pretty sure id die in ecstacy if they played 10,000 days, but if they aren't playing it in the current tour, i rekon the odds for em playin it for us here down under are more than remote.
As for support bands, iv heard some people spreading it about that the newly formed 'Ink' will be supporting tool... i dont even know where to begin pointing out whats wrong with that... they arent widely known under their new name, only as Jerk, can u poicture jerk supporting tool? they havent finished recording,
and i know charles, the guitarist, and he hasnt said anything about them supporting fucking tool... so yeh, if anyones heard somethin about that somewhere, forget it. just cuz they played at the official album release dusnt mean they're supporting them.
Personally... id love to see the butterfly effect supporting em. lol, oh i do know how unlikely that is :P but thatd send me over the moon lol
Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
I think I read some where that international bands have to have at least one Australian support band. Imho, Cog would be a very good band to support Tool. Although some international bands seem to pick the worst support bands they can find. I don’t know why they do this, but I hope Tool pick a good one.

Re: 2007/01/24 - Sydney, AUS - Entertainment Centre
Sorry that was meant to be just GA tickets, not seated.
Regarding support bands, Tool have a hostory of having support bands that they are fans of. Eg, Tomahawk, Meshuggah, Tricky, ISIS, Fantomas, Melvins, Cosmic Psychos. 2001 they had Cosmic Psychos in Sydney and 2002 The Melvins, obviously it wont be Cosmic Psychos as their guitarist passed away, but i wouldn't count out eith ISIS or Melvins both having albums coming out in a few weeks and are due to tour.

That'd be pretty fucking awesome. Cog are blindingly good live, and would fit with TooL like pee's and carrot.
Hmm... actually, cog should be finished recordin by then shouldnt they? Dont think id be able to handle it, if i got to hear Cog play new stuff live... as nothing more than an appitiser for TooL.
Actually, i know this wont happen, but i rekon the ideal support for Tool would be Karnivool.
