"Rosetta Stoned" 02:30 = "The Patient" 04:40
"Rosetta Stoned" 02:56 = "The Patient" 02:56
etc.
It's like the same guitar riffs in every song.

Most definately not the same
In fact I expected to listen and think they at least sounded similar enough that I could understand why you thought they were the same, but I really don't even know where you came up with this connection
At least with the supposed third eye riff in rosetta stoned I can hear the similarity, even if they aren't the same

I do see the connexion, but I think it's cool anyway.
I mean, I'm sure they aware of the similarities, maybe it was intentional ?
If so I find it cool. I like to hear some allusions to previous songs I loved. they managed to create an entirely different song with some reference to a few older songs it seems.
Do you hear the similarity to Triad ?
When Adam start his "solo" at 7:18, it sounds familiar, and again at 7:42 the percussion that's added... EDIT: must have been confused. The beat at 7:42 is familiar from The Grudge. not Triad heh.
I like all that ;)

Read what you said again; you kinda-sorta described every Tool song ever written.

10 songs in 5 years and they couldn't come up with something dissimilar?

Yeah man, because they spent those entire five years thinking about Tool and stuff.
Maynard has a family, APC, his wine deal, etc..
Danny has PLC, VOLTO!, his occult obsession and so on.
Adam has a myspace.
Justin is busy on his yacht.
I should probably build my case better, but you need to realize that at this stage, Tool has become a side project for the members, and saying that you deserve more than the seven songs given to you after such a long wait is just silly. I recently read an interview with Maynard and his said something about how Tool is a way for four guys to come together every few years and share something; this is basically a subtle way of saying Tool is just a side project.
Whether you like it or not, I'm pretty satisfied with the album.

Are you saying that album isn't "dissimilar" ? I pretty much think it WAS intentional that this song has some similarities, and that's pretty sweet to me, cause it's totally different aside of that. This is a fucking great album.

Well, I really don't think it means its a side project. It's just that they have a life too ! Tool remains their band. I mean, you can't ONLY make music all your life, but it doesn't mean they will put Tool as a side project. They just take their time, and that's fine.

These fragments I have shored against my ruins.
They're taking refuge in the familiar, like we all do at times.
Get used to it.
