I think you're taking the word hippie out of it's context. The phrase is, hippie haze. Meaning stoners. Meaning vegging out and staring blankly into the TV. At least that's what I get out of it. Add to the line, shouldn't have to say it all again, as if the people hes addressing have a memory problem....

I didn't read what kabir said, but I definately agree, it's "drum on" or "drum upon (live)".

Oh, I wasn't replying to anything he said in particular. I just keep checking the "offical" lyrics (the ones he has posted on the site) and it still says (drown on grave and ground/??), where instead it could say ...(drum/drown) on grave and ground.....

I sometimes hear this as "Pull your halo on out your head please and give a listen", as if Maynard is asking the self-righteous among us to admit that they are

During the show in Honolulu i had noticed that this line sounded differently a bit. Also i noticed during a listen that it sounds the same on the second repetition on this line. It sounds like it is saying... la, la la, la, la, la-Lullaby.

After thinking for a bit about the lyrics preceeding this line, it actually makes a bit of sense. Death rattle... Lullaby; Both being infantile references.

I can't deny what you heard at a show, since I wasn't there (and I didn't notice anything different about that part when I saw them) but I'm definitely not hearing 'lullaby' in the recording.

Uhhh, Huh?"Death rattle" as a phrase refers to someone's dying breath, usually accompanied by some sort of cough or other forceful exhalation, and has nothing to do with infants, infancy, babies, etc.. unless you're referring to SIDS...

I think this song is a breeze, compaired to the others. I think JesseAK is near perfect here.

after hearing this song live, I clearly heard "I own the TV"

I own the TV is just an accent for "eye on the TV"

I just want to explain why I think things are how they are.
First, I think it is " Part vampire, part warrior, carnivore, and voyeur. Stare at the transmittal, SINK TO THE DEPTHS RIGHT OUT OF LI-LI-LI-LI-LI-LI-LI-LIFE...." Yeah, I know you can't hear any "f" sound in there but it's certanly possible.
Also, I still think it is, "Gradualist, at best you're designed to believe in angels in the hearts of men, Pull your head on out; you'll hear, pay reason, give a listen, Shouldn't have to say i all again." To explain this one... I think this a rip on Darwinian gradualism, as opposed to 'punctuated equilibrium' (as described in 'forty-six & 2')... It still supports evolution, but in a different way. Do your research, and tell me what you think!

It's a portmanteau - taking part of one word and combining it with part of another word to create a word more tailored to the context of what your saying.

Stare at the television signal, the show, whatever, that makes you feel a certain way - that elicits certain senses in your mind - your emotions. The broadcasting of an emotional trigger.

Good job Benjamin - once again we see eye to eye - my wife was working on it with me and on her first listen she thought it was

"Pull your head on out your happy ass and give a listen' but - that couldn't account for the AYZ sound - on the other hand, 'Pull your head on out your happy haze and give a listen' matches spot on for the phonetics and makes total literal sense. - Though I do concede that it may be 'hippie haze' and not 'happy haze' - both make sense and it's hard to tell which one is said for sure.


Also, take this into consideration, doubters:
