Facing East at Sunset

The time of anticipation, of darkness throughout the nation,

Monthly starved and waiting, perpetuating visions of fear

Sky above, so hypnotizing, adrenaline paralyzing

Hoping and dreaming of the occasion so seemingly near

The music aims for my soul through my tense, suffocating ear

That light, so blue and austere

(An assignment to integrate a personal poem with the rhyming and rhythm scheme of Poe's "The Raven", my teacher is a total Poe fanatic. I did enjoy the result, though)
