While I'm now inclined to believe it's fetal spooning over needle spooning, even though it sounds more like the latter, I'm even more inclined to believe it's neither of the two.

Think about it, if someone's trying to calm him down with orange slices, etc, it's probably not an alien. It might be a friend, etc, that's trying to help calm him but since he's so out of his mind, he can't really tell what's going on (so he thinks it's ET? up to interpretation...). Either way, WHOEVER is giving him orange slices to calm him down would probably not spoon with him to calm him down (cause wtf thats weird)... and fetal spooning is kind of redundant anyways... there's only one way to "spoon" someone, and it just so happens to somewhat resemble the fetal position... loosely.

At any rate, I think it's something else we're not hearing, because fetal spooning does not logically make much sense. What WOULD make sense is what someone else was suggesting earlier... some sort of food product that is being spoon-fed to him

Ok, I've been listening to the Toronto show live version and to me it sounds like fetal spooning as well as the following:

It was so real
Like I woke up in neverland (clearly neverland and not wonderland as it sounds on the ablum version so I'm thinking he either forgets the lyrics somewhat or changes them as hes sees fit live)
All sort of terrifying
I don't want to be all alone
when I tell this story
and can anyone tell me why, you sound like Peanuts' parents (very clear on this too..good job on catching this one mdemone)
Will I ever be coming down
This is so real
Finally it's my lucky day
See my heart is racing (he singing clearly pounding so I'm thinking he forgot to sing racing)
'cause this shit never happens to me

The toronto show is so far the best live recording I've found and has a cool version of Right in two live!

Bottom line, as I've listened to quite a few different recent concert recordings, I'm coming to the conclusion that we won't know officially what he's saying until they release the lyrics on toolband.com since he's apt to change them on a whim or he possibly forgets them when playing live and covers it up with some other random choice.

No I think it is uncle martin as is from the old tv show "my favorite martian". Metro lyrics doesn't have it any more right than anywhere else. Hell I've submitted my own intereptations of the song lyrics there.

But hey everyone is entitled their own opinion and this won't be cleared up until the lyrics are officially posted.

I hear a duality of "this shit never happens to me" and "this should never happen to me" - similar to "push it on me" and "put shit on me"

what do you all think of this?

'you believe me don't you?
please believe what i just said!
see they don't eat children,
and this wasn't all in my head.'

??? THEY DONT EAT CHILDREN!!

'born to bear and read to all the details of our ending, to write it down for all the world to see, but i forgot my pen. shit the bed again. typical.'

when maynard's moaning near the seven minute mark it sounds like he starts singing, in kind of a state of delirium, 'why don't they believe me, why don't they believe me, why don't they believe me?" and a 'pause' and then adam's "solo" comes in and the gravity of the hopelessness of the situation seems to become more apparent. no one is going to believe him and he can't even remember the most crucial part.

Alrighty then
Picture this if you will

10 to 2 AM
And actually eating up an old box of Krispy Kremes
And my need-to-know pose.
Just outside Area 51
Contemplating the whole chosen people thing
When a flaming stealth banana split the sky like, wide open.
I never expected to see it in a place like this.
I do believe I spilled a diamond sundae
Or something wet on my Birkenstocks
And [you're yelping]
Holy fucking shit

Then the x-file beings who were like
some kind of blue-grey [Jackie Chan]
With Isabella Rossellini lips and breath that reeked
[They're wicked-shot terrorists all while making the sound]
abananadabanana so when I opened up my bug eyes, my gaping jaw and my sweaty L. Ron Hubbard upper lip
And all I could think was
I hope that my partner here doesn't notice
that I pissed my fucking pants

So alive in this way
Like an apparition
You have me crying out
Fuck me
It's got to be
Dead head
Chemistry
The blotter got
On top of me
Got me seeing
E mother-fucking T

And after calming me down with some orange slices
And some fetal spooning
The ET revealed to me his singular purpose
He said you are the chosen one
The one who'll deliver the message
A message of hope for those who chose to hear it
And a warning for those who do not
Me, the chosen one, they chose me
And I didn't graduate from fucking high school

You had better...
You had better...
You had better...
You had better listen

When he looked right through me
With somniferous almond eyes
Don't even know what that means
Must remember to write it down
This is SO REAL
Like the time they floated away
See, my heart is pounding
Cause this shit never happens to me

I can't breathe right now

It was so real
Like I woke up in Wonderland
All sort of terrifying
I don't want to be all alone
When I tell the story
And can anyone tell me why
It was a repeat experience
will I ever be coming down
This is so real
Finally it's my lucky day
See my heart is racing
Cause this shit never happens to me

I can't breathe right now

You believe me don't you
Please believe what I just said
See they're telling the truth
And this wasn't all in my head
See they took me by the hand
And invited me right in
Then they showed me something
I don't even know where to begin

Strapped down to my bed
Feet cold, eyes red
I'm out my head
Am I alive? am I dead?
Can't remember what they said
God damn shit the bed

hey hey

Overwhelmed as one would be placed in my position
Such a heavy burden now to be the one
Born to bear and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see
But I forgot my pen shit the bed again
Typical

Strapped down to my bed
Feet cold and eyes red
I'm out of my head
Am I alive am I dead
Sunkist and Sudafed
Gyroscopes and infrared
won't help the brain dead
Can't remember what they said

God damn shit the bed

I Can't remember what they said to me
Can't remember what they said to make me out to be A HERO
I can't remember what they said
Can't remember what they said

Don't know, Wont Know (repeated 12 times)

God damn shit the bed

There thats the whole song.

I still think it's "needle-spooning" and not "fetal spooning": Orange slices / Vitamin C can be used to enhance a LSD trip. Needles and spoons can be used for heroin. With the orange slices, and the whole drug trip aspect of the song, needle-spooning makes more sense to me.

I really like the "you all sound like Peanuts parents" interpretation. Good call.

Take a listen. Does "See they're telling truth and, and this wasn't all in my head" fit better than the "children" interpretations? It makes more sense to me with the aliens having a real message that needs to be believed.

Waz gone 4 like two weeks and there's definitely progress here! I'm impressed.

First sentence is:

" 10 to 2 a.m., and actually eating a damn box of Krispy Kremes in my need-to-know pose just outside Area 51, contemplating the whole chosen people thing, when just then a flaming stealth banana split the sky like all wide open."

I listened to a few live versions and you can hear the 'f' - unlike in the album version. I'm pretty sure it's fetal spooning.

Its a choice between 1) "birthed to bear" (born) or 2) "offered to bear" (borne) or "rendered to bear" (borne). That's why I am choosing "Borne to bear" as the correct lyric.

I've heard almost none of the live stuff yet. Perhaps MJK wrote "fetal spooning" and that's what will be in the official lyrics, if/when those are ever given to Kabir.

I would like a transcript of what's on the album: "You must have been out your hair" was sung in The Pot, despite that "out your head" is clearly what was meant, and what rhymes with the rest of the song. I don't know if fetal vs. needle is a case of this.

Once one has something set in mind, it's hard to hear new interpretations: It took me forever to catch "your [happy/hippy] haze" in Vicarious. I had to hear a live clip. I still hear "pull your head on out, your head be reasoned, give a listen" a lot.

Might you have a sample or link to the live "fetal spooning" line anywhere online to listen to and help clear my mental pathways?

I've heard almost none of the live stuff yet. Perhaps MJK wrote "fetal spooning" and that's what will be in the official lyrics, if/when those are ever given to Kabir.

I would like a transcript of what's on the album: "You must have been out your hair" was sung in The Pot, despite that "out your head" is clearly what was meant, and what rhymes with the rest of the song. I don't know if fetal vs. needle is a case of this.

For what its worth I am not hearing "the whole chosen people thing", nor anything close to that. This part is particularly inaudible but I can't make out the word "chosen" at all. If anything, I've made out the word "human" in this mess on a couple of listens.

Agreed, "see them telling children" or "see they're telling children" makes absolutely no fucking sense.

P.S. I am not saying you are wrong, I just would like to hear how you make sense of the song if this is indeed the lyric.
Orange slices and/or Vitamin C can be used to enhance a LSD trip. Needles and spoons are often used for heroin. I've no experience with heroin and no idea what it would do in conjunction with acid. It might get pretty ugly. But maybe it would calm down a bad trip. With the orange slices, the "blotter got right on top of me" line and so on, needle-spooning seems plausible.

(Then again, if you're following the lyrics thread, samples from live shows may prove me wrong - as to what was written at least)

I disagree with the "Martin" or "Marvin" interpretations. I still hear "I hope Uncle Quark here doesn't notice that I pissed my fuckin' pants."

In support of this premise, think back to Deep Space Nine with Quark and his nephew Nog, often saying "Uncle Quark!" It fits the idea of referring to a newly met alien with something familiar from TV as well as "Uncle Martin," it is a more recent reference and matches what I hear much better.

I've heard it for a while as "chosen people thing." The way I hear it, the tempo of the words chosen people is about 1.5x to 2x the speed of the rest of that sentence. Like "contemplating the whole chosenpeople thing." I have no claims that I'm more right than anyone, that's just what I hear.

When I first took a stab at the song, I thought that line was something like "the whole deals of people thinking we've just been a flaming stealth banana" or something along those lines.

It's CLEARLY "chosen people" on the live versions, which maybe the reason people started using it.

When I get home, I'll edit a small clip out of one of the recordings and up the vocals a bit. It's not the strongest 'f' in the world, but you can hear it.

For some reason I feel like the studio was recorded with a megaphone too, but with different layers added on top of it. Don't remember where I read that, though.

I mean it's not the clearest "fetal spooning" but I feel like you can hear the 'f' a tiny bit at the beginning. It's not as clean-cut as it would be if it were needle-spooning.

This is a tough one. I agree that I hear something like "tale" in there and agree that there seems to be a "t" sound where the "ch" in children supposedly is. But do not hear "yet" at all.

I also do not hear "truth" at all from one of the other proposals.

Definitely not hearing "children", not that that makes any fucking sense whatsoever anyways.

Ok..well there isnt really much point me givign my fragmented bits of listening now that Primal_regrets has done an awesome job there :)

But all the same...some of the things i first heard...gives something to think about perhaps?

"So alive" --> so alone?
"Have me crying out" --> hear me?
"Those who do not" ---> Those who deny me (i swear thats what i heard..every time)

i also thought so real --> surreal.

And also...i dont know if anyone said it but i just came to realise that track length = 11:11. Im sure we all have those freaky things where something happens, we look at the clock and go my goodness its 11:11.

Yup, tough one. I also fear that we might be totally off on a number of lines at the beginning.

there are some suggestions out there, none of them figures tho

You are right, the "yet" isnt there. Could be *see the tale aint told*. Maybe.

Also, im 100% sure its *so LIGHT in his way, like an apparition...". Apparitions would tend to be light, floating almost... :-)

Yes, I'm hearing "fetal spooning" on the live clip. Thank you for that :) Very tough to hear on the album, he's almost swallowing the f at the beginning of the word.

I'm skeptical: A little too much vibration from what I hear as the v in "alive".

Either "so light in his way" or "so alive in a way". Both could go with the "apparition" line. Impossible to say.
