ok, well here's my take of schism, theres a few mistakes, and its not the best recording due to my wonderful 3cm 4 year old PC mic, but its something. I'll post guitars only as well, HR, I hope you dont mind me participating also, I know you had this song covered, but its the only one from the drumtracks I know how to play.

I saw Primus mentioned a few times here, and I'm up for that on bass... a lot more fun than playing Tool, though I might help with some Tool songs too (if there aren't already too many bassists working on it).

Thanks guys for your feedback, HR, just to be sure, where is this solo that you talk of? u mean the whammy part? or did you mean later?
yeah I havent sat down and ironed it out, its mainly around the middle section that the timing slips around so I might just retrack that part, the only other thing I'm not totally happy with is the tone I'm getting, but I mainly blame that on the crappy mic I'm forced to use, with its meter long cable pointed as far as it can over the otherside of the room, and I cant crank my amp too loud with neighbours and things, still, there should be some nice frequencies in there that will blend and sit very nicely once a bass is added

well i'm not sure why exactly you're doing this as my track is "already" done and waiting to be layered by matteran......
?
the part i was referring to was the sliding chords area... and the stuff after it i liked how you got some sort of high notes to shine through somehow, and that might sound pretty good on top of mine, not sure.....

i've got a sober v 2 up.... it's not perfect but i dont' really want to do that much more to it, as it's not one of my favorite songs.
damn i need to fix the volume issues at the end though, i'll do that.

hahaIm back. far away for the last five days, visiting family before the summer ended. Great job everybody! Some one asked what other drum I used, danny uses more? Im working on a slightly clone set of dc's-I have a sonor double bass set with 4 toms, and a bit of cymbals too. (theyre silver tho, so its not exactly the same, which is good too.) So I have the extra floor tom for that.
Cool version of schism 3 fold.
And Im always anticipating and Bass guitar contributations.
Keep it up!

IC how hard is the 46 and 2 "solo"
i was listening to it today and for the first time ever i understood the gist of what he seemed to be playing and it made sense to me, and it actually seemed kinf of "simple" in a way, to listen to.

wow^ dont know what happened there..wont let me edit that one thing. anyway,
yeah its very difficult at first. It didnt make sense to me what he was doing in the begining at first, he does 5 hits on the 'and' of each beat, going across the bar line, then throws a little tripplet fill right underneath it, then does two more and hits. That made me stumble a bit, but now that it clicked, its easy. Then you do the double bass lil feature, then you just need to count the singles on each tom, and then a few doubles on the basses. The most tricky part is the last part when he does 16th note tripplets(if im remembering correctly) between the toms and all. But you can double with the bass and between the toms. And you just practice that. Wont give you too much trouble once it clicks. :)

whenever u guys get a final song done I can possibly do vocals. I have means of doing so but don't have anything to show you except for some extremely rough demo's recorded with a digicam that is live with my band.
But most people say I sound like Maynard, so check it out.

I think with a little more practice, mainly on timming that reentree from the bridge, and the serious licks at the end, I can do it for you if you want. HR, i'll dl that right after lunch.

Well im the bassist/vocalist for my band. BUt I wouldn't wanna do vocals for schism anyways.
If anything i'd wanna do vocals for Lateralus. As far as bass goes, I think I could play Tool rather easily as I mainly play Rush as far as covers go.
But I don't cover music a lot anyways, but let me hear your all finished product on schism and I'll see if I can take the time to help out.

ANYTHING by Adam Jones is simple.
Listen to Alex Lifeson play guitar to learn what the opposite of simple is. (2112 ENTIRE song)

my mistake. I just hate when people worship Adam Jones and try to play like him and shit. That will get you nowhere. He got somewhere b/c he took enough drugs to fit in with a drug band that just happened to have the most amazing drummer ever.
Aside from that Adam Jones has created some of the best art as far as their videos go. So I have plenty of respect for the man.
But as I know your a beginning guitarist....I just wanted to point you in the direction of some good guitar stuff was all really.

I refuse to respect your opinion on guitarists if you haven't heard Jeff Beck. No questions asked on that statement.

yeah i know.... but playing Adam really helps absolutely any guitar player that has not ventured into complex rhythmns, it's a good place to start out with them, and it also helps hone your wah and effects and feedback usage a bit.
anyway with the exceptions of stinkfist and prison sex i don't think his videos are all that, they must take huge skill to make, but ..... they don't really do anything for me for the most part.

Aside from that Adam Jones has created some of the best art as far as their videos go. So I have plenty of respect for the man.
But as I know your a beginning guitarist....I just wanted to point you in the direction of some good guitar stuff was all really.

yeah i know.... but playing Adam really helps absolutely any guitar player that has not ventured into complex rhythmns, it's a good place to start out with them, and it also helps hone your wah and effects and feedback usage a bit.
anyway with the exceptions of stinkfist and prison sex i don't think his videos are all that, they must take huge skill to make, but ..... they don't really do anything for me for the most part.

I think the magnitude of Adam's creativity is overshadowed by the fact that in terms of technical skill he isn't that great.

how do we know he isn't that great though, he's been playing for so long you'd think he could be better than he is.... like the buzzy guitar in third eye, if that's him it sounds like he's doing scale runs and shit, for example.
a good example would be Mark Tremonti, he's a kickass shredder but you wouldn't know it from listening to Creed.

spiffy^
I have a section of this tribute up in EBA now, so if we get any contributions from All One Mind I'll layer it and then put it up here. Hes workin on vocals for Schism and 46&2, an I may have a go at sober vocals. :)

So are you saying tool is only good because of danny? I think that tool plays together better than any band ive ever heard. every instrument flows together. adam jones and tool is a good example of how you dont need a shit load of skill to make a great song/band.
