Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

While you're all waiting for new Tool albums/developments, I suggest that a LOT of you head to the main site, toolshed.down.net and begin reading the PLETHORA of articles and interviews related to the band.

You'd be fucking SHOCKED at how many ignorant cries, fears and assumptions are cleared up for you.

Here's a small hint: Maynard isn't really included in what Blair alluded to as "writing." He comes in after when the "foundation" is much more solid. And, *gasp*, Tool isn't really unique in this way. A LOT of bands operate that way.

I think most of the people here are aware of that. Those here who are not already entirely obsessed with reading posts, interviews, newsletters, and articles about the band are probably made privy to this information by those on this board who are, sometimes even under circumstances where the sharer of information thinks that they are shining some bright new light on the whole situation.

Thanks for being condescending, though. In the meantime, I might summarize what you may have missed. People here know that the members of the band are already writing. Those who are upset, however, are upset by the statement that Tool will not be recording any time soon. If their past albums are any indication, it takes them a long time to record. Given the quality of their recordings, this is to be expected. Some people are upset by the notion that their favorite band will not start recording for some time, at which point there will still be a decent wait for the recorded output to surface.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

I think that Maynard being relatively distant from the initial writing process is part of what makes Tool's music so great. So many artists write music with too much forethought put into the integration of vocals. These bands write music to "fit" the lead singer's lyrics and vocals.

Rather, Tool's music is first written first for the instrumentation, and later it enhanced by Maynards vocals and lyrics. It seems that Adam, Danny, and Justin are relatively free to be innovative and explore possibilities without constantly thinking "we need a third chorus here to make the vocals jive".

Certainly, Maynard chimes in, and some things will change to fit his vocal direction. Though, the initial foundation is not spoiled by the temptation to write the music for the vocals/lyrics. This makes the finished product, with vocals added, simply amazing...

This record is going to be all auto-tune incuding a collaboration with T-Pain.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

Uh oh, here we go again. I love that version of Reflection, which also happens to be my favorite song of all time (the song itself, not this particular version). I especially like the vocal layering Maynard does over Hawk's verses early in the song before Maynards verse starts. I've been curious to know what's actually said during the verses but have had no such luck. I can pick up a sentence or two here and there, but nothing consistent. dylanJA has a little JAmaican in him, nahmean, irie?

You've mentioned your plethora of bootlegs far too much to not be willing to share. I'll give you an h-jay next time I see you. Please send me a pm with your favorite, most high quality boot. PLEASE.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

Maybe people need to redefine what they they think Maynard means by "not recording anytime soon".

We know that Danny, Justin & Adam are writing.
We know Maynard is busy until at least the end of November.
It's likely Tool will be touring Aus/NZ in Jan/Feb.

Not soon could mean March for all we know, meaning we could see an album Oct/Nov next year. That's a delay of about 6 months. Is that really such a big deal to people? I doubt this APC thing is going to turn into a multi-year escapade.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

I think the constant trickle of any solid, reliable news from this band just leads some listeners to really pick apart and dissect the tidbits whenever they come along... ''not recording anytime soon'' doesn't mean the instrumental trio aren't writing right now; and to Maynard ''anytime soon'' could just mean a few or several more months. Maybe for someone as frequently busy as he is, that could just be a short stretch to most other people.

Anyway... yeah.

I see....

...you're being all nice now that you want some boots.

Funny...

I absolutely HATE the Tricky-tainted Reflection; Reflection is my all-time favorite song (just looking at Itunes, I have played it 200+ times in the past 18 months; small issues), so when I ever heard that version, I was just like OH NOES! HOWEVER, I understand that music is entirely subjective.

I will send you individual songs via AIM if you have an account.

Let me know.

I have spent the past 6 months trying to find "definitive" versions of each song and have done quite well. (I have made live versions of each of their albums drawing from their entire touring catalog and I must say, I'm really proud of how they came out.)

There are truly only about 7-8 full shows that are downright awesome, quality wise.

I have about 50, all above B+.

Unlike other traders/bootleggers, I could give three shits about sharing.

I have some early Tool (93/94) that will melt your fucking speakers. 1998 is an especially delicious year as well.

All Tool fans should have access to what I have.

If anyone wants some, just leave your AIM SN on a post along with your favorite Tool songs (keep it reasonable).

I won't disappoint.

So, I've been eating a decent amount of boiled egg whites every day as part of a higher-protein diet, and boy do my farts smell. I mean like, clear-out-a-room stink.

Good interview. I was never a fan of doing phoners back in the day. Always easier to do face to face, if that. Maynard and Billy may not be funny, but they are themselves here for the most part. All I ask.

Well, as much as I want to goto APC in SF one of the nights, it appears I'll be paying Jon Stewart's Rally to Restore Sanity a visit.

See you misunderstand that the tea party isn't far to the right- they use common sense. All they are looking for is smaller government. this means lower taxes for us, Spending less of our money on garbage-like 100k a year pensions for life and 850,000 to teach africans how to wash their genitalia(yes its happening). samller government means legalized marijuana, no roadblocks (illegal search and seizure), and no lobbyists controlling government (this includes businesses that pay polititians million to enact tarrifs).

It's simple common sense to me. John stewart just wants attention, and APC kicks ass.
