i like them both equally if not the live one is better except one flaw. They should have drawn out the last set of "prying open my third eye!". I like how on the aenima version it is longer.
I like the live version more, The intro is really cool.I think TOOL is a unique band, it sounds better live than in the cd. That is something any other band I know can make, they sound pretty cool on the album, but when they play live they suck.

i totally agree................this song just sounds better live.............on the cd it's more like an expieriment almost..................live it seems more like a coherant piece of music.................(please nobody get me wrong......third eye is not only my favorite tool song, but my favorite song period, so in no way am i bashing it.)

i don't think it was really an experiment for the band, but it was certainly experimental for the listeners, especially due to the general popularity of Aenima. i actually find it surprising how many people who only lightly listen to tool don't hate this song. it is very... charismatic.
