Hey everyone. New kid here, not a new fan though. Just wanted to give a few thoughts I've always had about Eulogy. Hope I can spawn some new thoughts about this fantastic song.
I've always seen the lyrics as a conscience vs. outwardness battle. What people say about a person after they're dead isn't necessarily what they thought about them when they were alive. I'll basically make it simple and break it down into what I believe is said in the eulogist's (if that's a word) mind vs. what he's saying in the eulogy of the deceased.
Eulogy:
He had alot to say.
We'll miss him. (2x)
We're gonna miss him. (2x)
So long.
We wish you well.
You told us how you weren't afraid to die.
Well then, so long.
Don't cry.
Or feel too down.
Not all martyrs see divinity.
But at least you tried.
Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice that was strong and loud.
We'll miss him. (2x)
Ranting and pointing his finger
At everything but his heart.
Well miss him. (2x)
We're gonna miss him. (2x)

He had a voice so strong and loud and I
Swallowed his facade 'cause I'm so
Eager to identify with
Someone above the ground,
Someone who seemed to feel the same,
Someone prepared to lead the way, with
Someone who would die for me.
Conscience (What he's thinking as he gives the eulogy perhaps?):
He had alot of nothing to say.
No way to recall
What it was that you had said to me,
Like I care at all.
But it was so loud.
You sure could yell.
You took a stand on every little thing
And so loud.
Will you?

Would you die for me?
Don't you fucking lie.
Don't you step out of line. (3x)

You've claimed all this time that you would die for me.
Why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy?
You had alot to say.
You had alot of nothing to say.
Come down.
Get off your fucking cross.
We need the fucking space to nail the next fool martyr.
To ascend you must die.

For your sins and your lies.

There's of course no patterns to prove this, he doesn't sing differently in either of them or anything. It's just a theory I have. The negative mind and the positive words.
