I'd have to say that my favorite tool video is Aenima. It does a great job of mixing real life with clay animation. My favorite part is when the lyrics say "I'm praying for an end..." and the guy bows into the waterlines.
Does anyone know who is the director for the TOOL videos? I think Adam does some, but I saw an old Metallica video that had a TOOL-esque to it. It didn't fit their style at all. Just wondering if it was from the same person.

Adam has directed all of Tool's videos except Hush.

"Ænema" has the best video hands down (in my opinion.)
One thing has always bugged me though: I have NEVER been able to describe why I love this video so much. I mean, I KNOW for sure that it's my favorite, but I stumble when I try to tell someone what I like so much about it. It's on such a visceral level that words can't explain it...I guess.
If anyone can come up with coherent reasons why this video is so amazing, I'm all ears. I need some words to be able to describe this. I find myself literally speechless when I talk about the "Ænema" video.

Yeah, reality + clay is definitely one of the reasons. Haha AND the part where the little guy bows into the water lines. Not to mention the man throwing the box around during the heavy drumming at the end of the song.

it's a good video, but parabola is by far my favourite
Agreed

Strangely, this is my least favorite Tool video. This song means something fairly personal to me (as I have lived in Los Angeles, and have my own perspective on the subject matter in the lyrics), and I really don't find much in the images for the video that rings true to me in the way I perceive the song.

Your true! But one thing I'd added is "Aenema - that's your individual and in some kind transcendental existense somewhere Outta... for a time the Song sounds"
i watched the salival dvd yesterday, and came to the conclusion that aenema is my favourite of the clips. I think its just the perfect synthesis of all the visual stuff they were developing over the last 3. It seems the most full, i never really appreciated the stinkfist clip because i adored the undertow era clips and missed the claymation. Aenema clip brings it all together.
after that i watched schism & parabola, and parabola impressed me more than i remembered. it was all on some kind of huge flat screen too, that helped

it's a cool video. the imagery throughout in general is just cool, especially the climax of the song. is it just me or did the thing spawn out of itself and fucking its other half at the end? its such a fast little glimpse i can't tell if it's its reflection in the water or if it divided and is fucking the dead half. either way, it's intense especially correlating with the "huh-huh-huh-huh"etc breathing/drowning/whatever kinda vocal and the intense climactic instrumentals.
