They teased Tick & Leaches before Sober, and they did what I suspect is the new Scism intro (I wasn't there) from two nights ago.

God damn it. I like Parabola. That would have been better than omitting The Pot at the shows I saw.

Wow. Just wow. The most unexpected song of the night for me was definitely Pushit. I have always wanted to see that live and now I have. The tease of Ticks and Leeches was just cruel but Sober was still badass. Hopefully we'll see it tomorrow night. Really nice to see Parabol/a especially since it hasn't been played since 2002 (I think). Great show. Great night and I get to do it all again tomorrow.

Great show. A few sound issues but nothing major at all. Mostly sounded really well. Loved when Maynard sung the "Aliiiiiiiiiiiiiivvvvveeeeee" in Parabola. Sober was a great treat. "This next song is something he isn't", referring to Danny's intro int Ticks. It seemed to have good chemistry between the guys tonight. Major thank you to Junior and his crew, They really nailed the laser lights and intermission was grand. The new intro to Schism was rockin'!!!!!!! Lateralus was the best I've seen in a long time. Thanks TOOL!!! True art at its best. Can't wait till tomorrow nights show!!!

Intention's light show killed. Thanks Junior! Highlight was Pushit. Can't get enough of that song. It makes my inner ears jiggly. Low light, if there had to be one, was Sober over Ticks. That was a nice kick to the sack, but hey. Parabol / Parabola was a nice shocker. The crew never disappoints.

Normally I am uninterested an bored with the drum breakdown during lateralus with the guest drummer but tonight I really enjoyed it. After it Maynard said now we have to see who won? Referring to Danny an the intronaut drummer then he said both these fuckers lost Adam wins! The tease for ticks was sick playing 30-45seconds of the song before stopping an going into sober. I typed a bunch of other shit here an accidentally deleted it so more later

My 7th TOOL show and first one outside of Chicago. Great seat, great sound, great laserz. I liked the venue but $20 parking was absurd.
I'm glad I checked the forum because AXS released tickets today and I was able to get a seat in the last row of section 102 (face value FTW). As such, high-fived with the dudes to the right of me. Seat to the left of me was empty.
Bought the $30 poster and matching $50 shirt. They had plenty of posters and also had 2 large autographed drum heads for $300 or $600 each... both sold while I was waiting in line.
Missed the opening band but I presume their drummer was the one who dueled with Danny.

Got ticket to both of these! Honestly, I've been racking my head trying to figure out exactly how many times I've seen the guys live. I think this'll be 7 and 8. I've seen APC probly around the same, and Puscifer 3 times, December 3rds show was by far the best Maynard appearance I've ever seen, Seriously!
After reading some reviews, I'm kind of dissapointed, this is the 5th and 6th time I've seen this, or similar Tool show, but can I really complain! I still expected a new song, but it does sound like they tweaked the arrangement. I am really anxious and excited that they're playing Pushit, it's one of, if not, their best songs, and I haven't seen them perform it live since my first Tool show way back in '01! I think Maynards shell has cracked bit. The last few times I've seen him with the back to back to back Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer tours, he has been more sociable, and more of an extrovert. This can only mean good things, as with the last Puscifer tour, he associated with a crowd of 5,000+ people, like there were only 10!
Well I just arrived to the Verizon venue here in Grand Prairie. Not sure why they chose to play here again, I would love to see them at the new Cowboys Stadium! Would that not be the most epic of epic shows? Anyway, security here can be a pain in the ass, so I'll end here for now.
With a little help from my friends...I coulda got front and center, just behind the pit, but I think we'll just stick with our seats so we can take it all in. Just got dim, I'm sorry to the people around me who I'm sure to annoy all night! Especially my new wife! Jenn, you knew what you were getting into!
BAM! Holy $HIT,
HOOKER WITH A FUCKIN PENIS!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
JAMBI, good followup!
I knew I smelled STINKFIST!
Maynard just told is they'll be playing some songs that they haven't played for years!
Just realized SOBER's been a rarity the last few shows!
This drunk fuck wants to start chit cause I know the lyrics, I know I'm kinda douchey about this... But what a douche!
This is awesome can't imagine it being better.
just got better, PUSHIT! Once again, I'm sorry slightly irritated guy to my right!
Met another hippy like myself, thanks for the dank Paul!
Damn, SCHISM came outa nowhere with that new intro!
Oh man, INTENSION! Wish I had some shroooms! Maybe tomorrow!
Of course! There might be a riot if they didn't play FORTY-SIX & 2!
Adam wins the drum battle in LATERALUS?
Maynard tells 'em to try harder!
Been a while since I heard the both PARASOL and PARABOLA!
Well, I kinda guessed they would close with ÆNIMA! FUCKIN AMAZING SHOW!!!!
Just gonna chill for a while, let these fuckers thin out a bit! This old guy said the guys will occasionally come out like an hour after the show and do an encore for whoever's left! Think I've heard such rumors before. Any comments?
Let's try to find the damn car. Not ready for this walk. Maybe we can get home st a reasonable time. We're gonna need our rest for round 2 tomorrow night!
Stuck in traffic for a damn hour!

Maynard was finally turned up, and man was he killin' it tonight! Best Tool concert of the 4 I've seen. This was the one that redeemed all the awful to just-ok sound from previous ones. '98 was the worst sound wise but the one I always wanted a do-over on, and I thought I'd never get a chance to hear some of those songs again. Hooker-- killed it, felt like I was 18 again :-D . Pushit, oh man, I teared up-- killed it. Sober, surprise!- killed it! I agree Ticks is better as studio, got a taste of Danny's drums on it with a little joking around from Maynard and then, fuckin Sober! Can't believe I got to finally see and HEAR these live! Maynard really does love Dallas, he was hitting notes, holding notes, and putting his diaphragm into it, and the tone was wonderful, cool little flourishes and vocal tweaks that were fresh and added to the songs instead of seeming like compensations. AND THEN... Parabol/a! I about shit. Never got to hear that live before at all, sounded so good. The guest drummer was actually a badass on Lateralus, too, so the drum off didn't feel like a waste of time-- loved it! And to wrap it up, Maynard wailed on AEnima with great vocals, nothing was missing!
I of course want to give props to the rest of the guys cause they all did a great job, too, and they always do, but the whole band was really amazing tonight.
There was definitely a pretty long jam in there that sounded like a new song riff, btw, probably a good 2 minutes.
Maynard was so into it, laid back, joking, groovin' to the music like he gave a fuck. It felt like I'd (or he'd) gone back in time.
THANK YOU SOUND GUYS FOR FIXING THE MIX and THANK YOU MAYNARD FOR NOT HOLDING BACK!
I wonder how much Junior's huge LED wall cost... wow.
OH and to top it off, I got to spend the first half of the concert in 402 A, which was a great view with great sound thanks to the main repeaters hung around the balcony, and then a guy swapped tickets with me to be with his buddy in the next seat, so I got to go down to 101 P and get up close for the second half. What a night!
So broke, but so tempted to see what happens tomorrow night... Ughhhhh.

Re: 01.20.2012 - Dallas, TX @ Verizon Arena

I don't think the Ticks and Leeches thing was a tease, I think Danny really thought that was the next song, that has been what they played in that spot at the past few shows. Maynard kinda walked over and stopped him then said "Alzheimers is a helluva drug."

8th time to see them probably the best although all have been awesome!! Sober was totally unexpected and great as was Parabol and Parabola! EPIC show! I have been going to concerts for over 30 years and have seen over 200 shows from all the best bands but TOOL is a different level. They are pros. Thank you Maynard, Justin, Danny and Adam and all who put the event together each night!!! Thank you for continuing to come to the Dallas/Fort Worth area! Thank you for prying open my Third Eye! Thank you for giving my two sons true art! SEE YOU TONIGHT!!

That was my 6th show and the best one yet. Holy fuck, my mind is blown. Just a few random thoughts about the show:
I really wanted Ticks and when Danny started it off I was screaming like a little girl. Then all of the members walked over to him and I was thinking "WTF is going on, I've never seen them all stand in front of Danny's kit"... Thats when he stopped and a slight tear fell from my face. But when Maynard said "This next song is something that Danny def is not" I was back to the little girl.
I kept waiting and waiting for Maynard to bust out with "Who are you to wave your finger" and as the night went on and he didn't, I got concerned that we wouldn't get a fourth different song like the other shows. When they finished off Lateralus and came back out I was racking my brain as to what else would be the finisher aside from /enima and for us to get Parabol/Parobola was fucking epic. I guess I can live with no ticks in exchange for Sober and Parabola.
The drummer for Intraunat is legit... That was by far the best version of Lateralus that I have seen. The back and forth from Maynard about who won, then telling them they both suck and Adam gets the Pez dispenser was hilarious.
The light show was second to none, kudos to Junior!
Audio was pretty great throughout even though Adam was having trouble with his guitar throughout the show.
All in all it was a pretty epic show. I got 4 songs that I hadn't seen live (Hooker,Sober, Intension, Parabol/Parabola). Wish I was going again tonight, but oh well... I will be counting down the days until the next tour and you can bet your ass I will see them more than once next go around.

"Tool? I-I-I don't think so." My wife's more of a Smith's kind of gal, you see. She was terrified. I was giddy, yet skeptical. As soon as we arrived all of my fears began to run through me like an out of control pathogen. "Not good." I said to her. I just knew. I tried looking past the fake tits and Affliction t-shirts, I mean after all, this is Dallas. Onward and upward, I told myself.
First the venue, Verizon. Not a bad seat in the place. Parking expensive but everything is. Usually very good sound quality. Not so much last night. From not being able to hear MJK, to extended periods of unintelligible bass "noise", this missed the target. Mediocre at best.
Now to the things that kept me up last night and have broken my black heart.
The guys. Sloppy is the only thing that comes to mind. They seemed confused. Mistakes, timing, everything. From a band that I've always admired as being technically sound and unapologetic in their rigidness, they disappointed. It was either irreverence or rust and lack of preparation. I would like to think it was the latter.
Which transitions into the disturbing side of what I witnessed.
This was/is a transparently obvious and painfully blatant money grab of the highest order. It's derivation is moot. However rationalized this was a complacent punch-the-clock-and-go-home. Totally mailed in.
The end is upon us. I'm glad I was here to see it, but there is something dignified about burning out. I don't want a graceful aging. These gentlemen that opened a virtual Caligula in our minds of what it means to be Tool are quickly and sadly becoming a walking Rolling Stones, late night TV orchestrated punchline. A small, albeit incredibly dear to me, section of my psyche was irreparably damaged the evening of January 20th. A very humbling night for all of us.
I am truly sorry. Feedback is not only welcome but encouraged. I'm seeing words of description like, "epic" and "blown away". What am I not seeing? Am I expecting too much?

Where were your seats? Also there were a few little mistakes (not unheard of for them), but nothing too bad that I noticed, and I'm not sure how much you've seen them recently, but Maynard did anything but phone it in THIS TIME, and he sounded the best he has since at least 10,000 days, if not Lateralus. The mix was WAY WAY WAY better than '09, and I got to hear it from 402 and 101 last night.

I was in section 402 as well. Admittedly, I admire from afar regarding live shows, and I have not seen them in over 10 years, so that may be a more than ample reason I was disappointed. I thought the set list was great and thoroughly enjoyed the drum sequence (drum-off w/ opening bands drummer and Danny - Lateralus). Just difficult seeing something that was so important to me during my youth changing. I saw them first in college in 1993 and just remember so vividly the connection.

Just difficult seeing something that was so important to me during my youth changing. I saw them first in college in 1993 and just remember so vividly the connection.

Ohhhhhh. 93, yeah, I get that. A lot of us have had a more gradual transition.

Yes, I am ancient. I saw them in Irvine and L.A. in or around 2001? Still, as you put it, not a gradual transition.

There was definitely sound issues and mistakes made but honestly I was glad to hear a different setlist with songs I've only heard in concert a couple of times. This was my 12th Tool show so I'll take a rusty Tool playing different sets over hearing the same thing every show. I'm sure the sound problems (Over amplified bass that would drown out Maynard, Adams guitar issues ALL NIGHT) will be all taken care of for tonight's show. One of the best things to see was Maynard actually getting into the music. He started showing signs of the old days!

Yeah, if there's one tweak they need to do it's drop the bass a little more. If I block an ear with my finger or flex my yawn muscles he can cut through a little, but it shouldn't be that hard. Hopefully tonight I'll be better off in 203 between the mains. Hope they tweak it though.
