Adam played this incredible shit when I saw them on the last tour. He was explaining poly-rhythms, and he was like, "Here, I will show you all a technique someone showed me that I was amazed by," and then proceeded to play two different time signatures while tapping on the neck. I thought it was fantastic, and I really, really hope that ends up on the album somehow, even as a filler like EBA.

I read your review and then laughed because the two photos of figures at the very end are mine. Thought they looked pretty familiar! I liked your review and completely agree with your sentiment about the intermission, I think it kills the mood.

yeah, I got them from your tumblr! I took tons of photos during my trip, however I forgot to upload them and when I lost my phone in the LA/Cinquanta drunken night, all my photos disappeared with it. the only photos I had left were the ones I had shared/uploaded on facebook during the trip. there were tons of photos online of the parabola/schism video creatures, but I remembered reading your reviews/site and went back to get the pics.
should have given you credit though, sorry!

No apology necessary! I am happy to see some of my photos were appreciated, and my review was read! It was a pleasure to write and I'm glad I did, so I can go back and kind of experience again for the first time. I am so sorry to hear that your photos disappeared, that sucks! I didn't even think about that when you mentioned losing your phone, I would've been in the same boat. It sounds like you had a hell of a good time. My regret from my experience was that I did not pick up his guitar and play it...it was standing for a while but I didn't want to interrupt the crew member taking everything down, but I really, really wish I had.

From what I understand the case with Cam was settled out of court. The current issue is one with some kind of legal insurance related to the case. I suspect they're arguing with someone about who gets to pay the bill. I'm not sure we'll ever know the real answer.

I'm no lawyer, but what does the lawsuit have to do with delaying the album? I'm sure its a distraction and no fun, but it's not like they are in court testifying in person.
If anything, you'd think they would need to pump it out to get some more $$ to pay the bills or settle..
Lets face it, Tool is a corporation. They shouldn't go to pieces over a lawsuit. Its not even their first one!

even the way adam talks about it is just weird...
"were fighting the good fight..you dont want people to know your business [yet im going to tell you]..."
and like you said its not their first one, and i dont recall them not wanting to disclose they were in a lawsuit back then. they used to just say "two of the five years inetween aenima and lateralus were court battles," or whatever it was.
i could be wrong, or they could be embarrassed since it involves (or involved, if hellboy is right and that suit has been settled) cam de leon, but i just dont see what the big deal is.
EDIT: looks like the case has been settled
"Alan wanted to let you all know that this is definitely no reflection on Cam. Tool have buried the hatchet with him and that case is long over."

Yeah, it's a separate (though related) lawsuit to the Cam De Leon one.
I think the lawsuit "excuse" needs to be taken in proportion. I'm sure it has some impact on the album and the mindset of the band, but I doubt that anyone in the band is solely blaming it for the delay. Rolling Stone are emphasising it in their article to bring in clickviews.
It seems odd to me that this is even an interview the band wanted to put out there. I suspect that Rolling Stone got wind of the lawsuit, and asked Tool to comment on it. Or that there's more to the interview that hasn't been printed yet.
Personally, I don't think Tool should be giving any interviews until there is something tangible to report. The less said until then the better. Just putting excuses out there, regardless of how valid does nothing but inflame people further.

Kanaduh should sue Jones for his cell phone, once it's been wiped of any stray recordings, of course.

They're holding on to that one for when they need an excuse why it isn't out in 2015.

After reading the RS article about the lawsuits costing Tool "millions and millions", maybe the delay has more to do with having to do these "mini tours" to pay the bills, and nothing to do with the ability to get together to compose/ arrange new songs.
Just a thought, but I'm sure the logistics involved in arranging a tour can be extremely time consuming. Kanaduh and I both witnessed first hand the number of 18 wheelers and tour busses that accompanied the band into Spokane (compared to YOB) who rolled in a mini-van full of their gear a couple hours before the show.
Not trying to make excuses, just saying...

did we ever settle our disagreement on whether it was "Y.O.B" or "yob"?

Ok, so I'm wrong:
MIKE SHEIDT: Well, when we first named the band we had a huge list of names and we were trying to find one that was something that we could dump all our energy into and define ourselves - something that wouldn't paint us into a corner too much. I initially got it from a Looney Tunes cartoon "Rocket Bye Baby". In the naming of the band, shortly after that we found out the English version of it which is the yob, the hoodlums, the group of yobs, the fuckers. In Russian it means "fuck."

Anyone have footage of a few tours ago where all 4 band members stood in "Hush Formation" with everyone cheering?

That was the 2009 tour. I just spent some time searching for video clips but unfortunately I cant find anything yet. I'll look more tomorrow... it's gotta be out there somewhere.
For reference purposes, this was comment from my review of the first 2009 show (Denver):
"Before Lateralus, all 4 members stood at the front of the stage side by side and did not move. At all. It was something you had to see, and I hope they do it again. For a good 2 minutes, the entire band standing to attention like soldiers while the audience went crazy. I thought it was neat."
another comment from a different review:
"They must be Bob Dylan fans because just before intermission they all stand at attention in front of the stage receiving applause. Bob has been doing that for years at the end of his shows. That made me smile a bit."

Just went back and watched the very 1st TOOL show I ever went to on YouTube (New Year's Eve 1995) and my mind was blown all over again!! During that show I got to see most of Aenima 10months before the album dropped and got to see an alternate version of the song that introduced me to the band, PrisonSex. AMAZING. Im glad I got to see them back when Maynard was still into it and standing out front, dressing up..etc.. Havent missed a tour since that show.
