Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

Fucking AMAZING. In 2002, I was dead front in Lowell against the barricade with some crazy guy with three ft long hair, whippin it all around. The sound & experience of that concert was AMAZING! This one, I was 6 rows back, and the entire crowd was excellent. I loved the whole fuckin crowd, not an asshole in my sight (which is so rare for a tool concert.) Those were my top 2 Tool shows, by far.

The lasers were fuckin interesting, especially if you checked the ceiling/back of the place. They had lots of energy, but Maynard didn't hit a lot of the high notes. The poor Mansfield weather got him all chilly. He was really funny today, probably the most interesting I've seen him (aside from when touring with APC.) But he seemed genuine. Normally there's some kind of hint of him being an asshole. And PA, we were louder than you - eat it. :p

HIGHLIGHTS : Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned, LATERALUS!, 10000 Days, Aenema

Lateralus will never, ever, ever get old for me. Saw the club date and dates in 2002, and I still firmly believe that Lateralus should be the closer every night. It would make every concert go out with a fucking BANG! Not that I don't think Aenema is a great song, but I don't think it fits well with ending.

I reek of pot. Thanks bastards. Can't find a better high or what? Just kidding.

I'll be seein them Thursday in CT. Can't wait. WAy shittier seats on that day, but I'll be able to fully enjoy the lasers/projection on the stage/etc. The lasers + fog = clouds was pretty cool too, during 10000 Days.

I can't remember any of the shit Maynard said right now... "Peace the fuck out"? Internet porn, pre-marital sex, can't remember anything else. "It's fuckin cold"? Can't remember things word for word but there's the jist.

Loved it. Amazing power and the band did excellently.

By the way? Isis were good performers but I didn't dig the vocals. Same feelings I had towards Meshuggah in '02. Hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as I did.

You know I am gonna get lambasted for saying this BUT.....fuck it.

The band sounded great, Maynard OK......but it seemed like they were there to collect the money. This was my 8th TOOL show, my first being 1992 at Club Babyhead in Providence. Even up to the last tour for Lateralus they knocked me on my ass. Visual with passion and great music. This time it's almost as if Maynard make a mockery of the experience. Wearing a bright orange hoodie and a cowboy hat. There was a deeper message that went along with the music when he came out dressed as Cher, or the blue man or the preacher. If he wants to be done with it then they should just release a bunch of live stuff and other things that the fans will dig, but don't ruin the last 16 years for the rest of us that enjoy the experience. And don't give me the old, "TOOL doesn't owe you anything" bullshit line. I already know that. With that being said, if you're not going to give it 110%, don't show up. I've seen Micheal Jordan play, and I have no intrest seeing him play with a broken leg. Get it! The grapes are a callin......

Funny,... It is amazing that what was my least favorite TOOL show I have ever seen (this was my seventh) can still be so great. For me, nothing will ever compare to the last leg of the Lateralus tour. But it was still a great show. Wish we heard Right in Two. Converted another person (I like to bring new peeps to TOOL shows) to TOOL, she enjoyed herself thouroughly. Good folks where I was sitting too, section 2, row H seat 1... very good seats. G'NIght all...

Stinkfist, The Pot, 46&2, Jambi, Schism, Lost Keys, Rosetta Stoned, Wings for Marie, 10,000 Days, LATERALUS, Vicarious, Aenema

Great show. Acoustics were great, everything was in perfect balance. Maynard's voice was a lot better than when I saw them in May during their "club tour". I was in the higher section and I still had a great view of the stage and everything. It was a really great show...not as good as hearing Third Eye to end the Lateralus Tour in NY but still an overall really fucking great show.

PS: The premarital sex bit was great.

Odd... I was just about to comment that from my seats in section 8, the sound quality was better than any rock show I have ever been to (including 5 other Tool shows). What a great performance. Props to the sound people as well (and those in the lab coats... ha ha).

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

i was in section 4 and the sound quality was great. maynard seemed to be enjoying himself and was really into it tonight. this show was better than boston imo. the only things i didnt like was that the bass should have been cranked for wings/10000 and justin should have been facing the crowd so we could see the fingerwork. overall great show, my dad went, he is not a tool fan, and he said the show was fantastic.

edit: highlight for me: the extended end of lateralus when danny went crazy.

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

My 4th TooL show....the guys did not disapoint. That was the loudest, best sounding show I have ever been too. Every song was great, I was in section 6 above the soundboard, and never expected it to sound that good. I was able to hear all of Danny's articulating on the hats AMAZING!!.

There was a couple of retards acting like they were at an opera and telling the band to fuck off, but it was'nt that bad.

TooL is like the Pink Floyd of our generation, I don't see any other artist ever being as good or touching a chord with people like TooL

Peace The Fuck Out.....

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

This was only my second Tool show unfortunately. I saw them in the summer of 02'. Tonight's show was great. They way they added little new pieces or just changed a few rhythms here and there added to many songs as well. I really dug lost keys into rosetta and then wings/10,000. Those songs kick so much ass live and it really helped me realize how much I like the new album as a whole. I just hope I get to see them tour again.

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

hoolllllly shit.
I'm from Connecticut, so I drove a hundred or so miles to get there. It took 2 1/2 hours, but i'm not complaining.
This was the first time i've been to the tweeter center, or seen tool. I was in section 4, towards the back. If anyone else was in that section, I was the one standing on the chair. :D
I couldn't see very well due to the people in front of me, so two songs in I turn around, there's no one behind me.. so i stand up. I sat down for Wings For Marie because my feet were turning to mush, then there was a girl behind me. I asked her if she could see okay with me on the chair and replyed "not really" but left a song after with her friends, early, so I don't really feel bad about blocking her view. I don't understand why she didn't ask me to sit down. SHe probably wasn't there for most of the time.
Anywho. That was an excellent, excellent view. I could see the entire stage and both screens, and half the audience. A few times I closed my eyes while the wind was blowing during Lost Keys/Lateralus and it felt pretty surreal. The whole show did. I have that after concert buzz, when you have to debate what happened actually existed, because it feels like a dream.
The set was crazy. The sound was decent quality... but the beginning of Rossetta Stoned was horrible. I'm not sure what I was expecting from tool. But, I'm not dissapointed.
I think the best song was Rosetta Stoned or Lateralus. Opening to Stinkfist and ending with Aenema was wonderful. I never saw so many lighters in one place. That was an incredable sight.

I sweeear Adam waved to me, because I think I was the only one, to my knowledge, that was high enough to see. Probably not, but I'll continue to think that. :P

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

Flawless, in my opinion. I was in section 14 row C (blonde hair, jammin' out like a maniac) and enjoyed myself thoroughly. The sound was fucking GREAT, and the atmosphere amazing. I thought that Wings 2 was right on, especially since we were outside, it was a little cold, and the stars and shit were out. It felt fuckin' otherwordly. I thought Schism was the highlight of the night. I can't really say whether the show was better than the Boston one from this summer at the Orpheum. I think that although the sound was better (since it wasn't in an opera house where the heavy sound echoes a little), it was a -different- experience. The orpheum was much more intimate, while at this show the connection was not just with the band, but with the whole atmosphere, the fans. It was fucking amazing. I thought Maynard sounded great, and Rosetta Stoned actually came out REALLY well. I really hope we don't have to wait another five years for another tour... but, even if we do, the wait will well fuckin' be worth it.

Oh. and "the voice in your radio": why does Tool not have the right to grow, change, progress? I really don't believe that Maynard has reduced to merely being money-hungry. And if you're going to insult the band in such a way as to even say something like that, how can you even place all the blame on Maynard? Are you fucking kidding me...?

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

This show was intense for me!!!
One complaint is the sound was too quiet & not full-enough from Sec 8, Row S, Seats 10-11ish (far to the right of the stage.) I felt as though we weren't hearing a full range of the sounds beign played. Could just be because Tweeter Ctr isn;t that great and the sound escapes out the sides... Who knows, I just wanted it to be so loud I had to scream to talk to my friend.. but we were having soft conversation and it felt like TOOL was playing farther away than they actually were. Setlist was good, same/expected. The crowd was psyched up and it was good to see upbeat people everywhere having a good time. I did make a few quips about the preppy girls accompanying their jock boyfriend who happens to like 46 & 2 cuz he listens to them on WAAF or something.. and the girl wanted to be a nice date and come dress up and party at a "rock show." Did any of the other girls notice a lot of girls that didn't seem like hardcore TOOL fans? Its hard to say that based on appearance.. but I got the feeling from a lot of the girls there and in the bathroom at one point... anyways...

I'll be seeing them next week in CT, which I'm looking forward to even more now. Esp being out of state.. it will be fun in a whole different way. I think the sound will be better, and I have floor seats so I'm excited. Tonight when by way too fast so I'm looking forward to an extra heaping helping of TOOL next week, ;)

All right, im not gonna blast you hard for saying that. i don't think at all it has anything to do with a mockery, or that he was there to "collect the money". He lives in Arizona (and im sure a couple other places). He's not from New England, and im sure most of the show's he's played at have been inside. It was pretty cold out tonight, and if you check out the pics of the other concerts, he's not wearing the hoodie. Do you think that perhaps, just perhaps, he could have been genuinly cold, and that's the reason for the sweatshirt?

on another note, the show was fantastic, i had a blast and drove up from Ct myself. Me and my g/f had a blast (her first tool show) and i would have to agree no one was an asshole, and i talked with all the people around me, and they seemed cool. was in section 2, last time i saw them i had bad seats, but there my favorite band, so i loved every minute of it. the lightshow was awsome, the clouds were cool. i had a feeling the lights were going to be on the stage when they took that rubber matt off of it, and i noticed the people who were setting up the stage were wearing just socks. liked the megaphone he brought out, i was wondering how he made that voice.

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

4th show, 2nd of this tour. Absolutely incredible as usual. I really enjoyed some of the new visuals and the stage looked awesome. Lasers were beautiful. The lighters were absolutely beautiful. Must have been a couple thousand of them at least. Maynard always seems to pull out something special with his vocals when he is in Mass. He used to live here so that might have something to do with it. Would have loved to hear Opiate or any variation on the set-setlist that they've been doing but you won't hear any complaints from me about the performance. I can't get over how f@cking amazing Jambi is live. That song just really is incredible. All the new stuff sounded great and the fast alternate version of the Schism breakdown rocked my balls off. If you didn't get to go, hopefully someone either filmed or recorded it and we'll all get to enjoy it again.

It was ok. Although I think the Boston show was better. imo

I really didnt care for the set list all that much. I have grown so tired of 10KDays to the point that it hurts.

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

This was my 10th Tool show (4th time at Tweeter Center) and honestly, I had my reservations going into the show. But this was probably in the top 3 times I've seen them. I had such a good time.

Highlights:
-The stage/video screens (ALL WHITE) look so amazing.
-The first 3 tunes (Stinkfist, The Pot, Forty-Six & 2) absolutely KILLED.
-Jambi is a great live song.
-The middle part in Schism (aka crystal meth part) adds so much to that tune.
-10K Days is everything I thought it was going to be.
-Lateralus should be the closer. It's one of their most important songs, IMO.
-Aenema is still the tits live.
-Tool (especially Danny and Adam) can reproduce every little sound/nuance just like their records. I love that about them.

Lowlights:
-The overall setlist.
-Rosetta Stoned is a mood killer. The momentum of the show drops during that tune. Plus they ripped themselves off when they wrote it (see Third Eye). Drop that an add 2 other tunes. Shit, I'd rather hear Sober for the 1,236th time.
-MAYNARD'S VOICE. I have had mixed emotions about Tool over the last couple of tours. Maynard used to take chances and I loved that about him. I go back and forth with my feelings regarding his voice. He's lost so much on it and I almost feel like he's become a liability. I hate feeling that way but I can't help it. I love him but yet he's not the same. Plus, he gets sick every fucking tour. The man is obviously not taking care of himself. When I go back and listen to the old shows, he's stellar. I know with age your voice weakens and his peak to me was Lollapalooza in 1997. I listen to those shows and he just absolutely destroys. The entire tour. But it's been almost 10 years since that tour and he'll never sound as good as he did then. So I'll move on.

DANNY CAREY is a human highlight reel. He is the single most important member of that band and never ceases to amaze me. He's the sickest talent on the planet. He, along with Brann Dailor of Mastodon, is the best drummer on the planet. Bravo.

ADAM JONES. Great guitar tone. The one thing I still find amazing is that Tool has such rocking tunes and the guy continues to look like an oil painting on stage. Would it kill you to move around a bit? Your songs rock so hard. MOVE! I know you have plastic knees and shit, but tap your foot or something.

JUSTIN CHANCELLOR. Great stage prescence. GREAT bass tone. Well done.

Again, great time. Thanks Tool. You're still the tops.

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

ok now I am seriously confused. I think my ears are fucked up. And that is a problem. I was in section 5 row P and everything sounded horrible. It didnt sound like Tool. The guitar sounded too high. The levels were all off...I don't know enough about music production to really pin it down. It did NOT sound like the album and I DONT get why. I went to the orpheum show and it sounded absolutely amazing. I listened to Aenima as soon as I got to the car...and it sounded NOTHING like what I had just heard. Is it possible there is a bad couple of seats in the tweeter center? I really am at a loss. I came 6 hours for this show all the way from college.

Did Isis sound like they added parts into their songs? Like looping or something. Thats what it sounded like to me. I know all their songs and they sounded different too, as did Tool's. It sounded like one of their 3 guitars that isnt really on lead in the song might have been amped up too much, or that they literally were looping small 2-5second parts of their songs in order to freeze time and extend the songs. The worst part about all of this was that I wasn't fucked up...unless pot could somehow do this. And if it did I need to quit smoking because I'm not letting anything ruin Tool for me. The thing I don't understand is the only people that understood what I was talking about (and I described what I was hearing fully during the show) were a guy sititing near me tripping acid and two kids behind me on shrooms. So much for a sample size. Fuck. I really don't know what to think. Interestingly, I saw two guys behind me leave after lateralus and they seemed pissed off. Maybe they were hearing what I was hearing.

The most striking part was durign 10,000days. Thats what I knew something was messed up and exactly what it was. Both the guitar and the bass were way too high. The darkness of the song (that is supplemented by the ambient noises) was just nonexistant. It sounded like everything was taking up to a higher sound.

The only things I can think of that logically make sense:
1. my eardrums popped or something is seriously fucked up in my ear...
2. it actually was messed up...and everybody else is just crazy...
3. there is something about where I was sitting (sec 5 row p seat 14-17) that we got the mixing of sound waves bouncing off the ceiling or SOMETHING that fucks it up. probably not though becuase the other 2 people I was with that weren't tripping acid (and just smoked) said it sounded fine/amazing. granted they haven't seen Tool live before like I did at the orpheum...and there it all sounded straight from the album.
4. I don't know.

I need to figure this out. If you've got any ideas or want to comment please do. I'm angry and I don't get it. I came 6 hours for what should have been the best show of my life and, while the visuals were amazing, it sounded blasphemous to Tool. Like some kind of a sick joke. Even if what you heard was slightly off...and you just dismissed it...please say something. I don't know what to think.

Edit: is there any condition in my ears that could possibly lead to lower sounds being changed into higher sounds? I was thinking and maybe only I was hearing this and the people tripping around me were just agreeing because they were tripping...and you can be suggested to believe practically anything when tripping.

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

WOW...I can't believe the shit I'm reading above.....To each his own, I guess.

First off.... BEST TOOL CROWD EVER! If there were A-holes out there I did see a one of 'em. Thanks Massachusetts!

This was an excellent show, I was 16 rows back...sound was great....visuals were great. This is Tweeter Center (a large outside venue) Why pit a show there against the friggin Orpheum (a 100 yr old Opera House).....or a bar show from 1992???

Each show is different with it's own personality. MJK was enjoying himself, not going through the motions as stated above. He was pretty funny tonight, lots of little hand motions to different people. I was well close enough to see him talking/moking to the roadies side stage...etc. Danny and Justin did thier thing as always....I think Adam was seeing how statuesque he could be and still play.

The Mansfiled show was a good a TOOL show as there has been. Why bother reading into things you really don't know about....like Maynards clothing choices and such....Justin's positioning...etc.

The sound is completely indicative of your seat location BTW and at Tweeter the place is so vast so the sound quality will be as well.

Remember a "bad" TOOL show is 10 times better than any other bands "best" show.

SPIRAL OUT folks.....see you in Manchester.

yes it is possible for you to only hear higher sounds if you've done damage to your ears. there are tiny hairs deep within your ear that vibrate along with sound waves to help create what you hear. if they vibrate too much because you're listening to music or anything else too loud, they can become tired and stop vibrating (kind of like going to the gym and lifting weights until you literally can't move the barbell anymore). it's possibly your ears got to the point they could only respond to higher frequencies. i went to a smashing pumpkins concert 10 years ago and by the end of the night billy corgan literally sounded like a cartoon chipmunk to me. as long as you don't do it too often or to too much of an extreme, it will heal itself. if almost the entire show sounded that way to you though, i would suggest wearing ear plugs from now on. yes, it definitely takes something away from the sound, but there are decent ones that don't completely destroy the sound. personally i'd think that would be better than doing permanent damage to your hearing.

there are other ear conditions that could cause these problems but that's the most likely one, and it's also very possible you simply had terrible seats.

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

"Holy fucking shit." Maynard summed it up as soon as he stepped onstage, in a deer hunter orange hoodie that did eventually come off for a bit. He was on last night.

For those who said the sound was muddled or mixed poorly - I don't really know what show you were at. I was in section 3, all the way on the edge (or in other words, at the Shrine of Adam). The sound was perfect.

The show was amazing. My first Tool show and it lived up to all my expectations. I've been waiting ten years for last night. Most people have covered a lot of it, but I have to say that the crowd was amazing (the overly intrusive, flashlight wielding, cigarette and camera seeking security people were fucking obnoxious, but the crowd was amazing). After 10,000 Days, the boys came up front and sat down on the raised platform where Maynard and Danny performed. They took a break and just chilled there (literally, it was cold). Spontaneously the lighters started going up, the crowd started getting louder. I was all the way up front, and looking back over those thousands of lighters - it was fucking incredible. For a couple of minutes the crowd roared, the lighters waved, and Justin held his up the whole time, too. It was a great moment.

"If there isn't going to be any permarital sex, then we need to wrap this up. I've got to get back to my Internet porn."

My ears are still ringing. The lesson? Get good seats. Fucking amazing.

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

8 years ago, I stood in nearly the same spot after a long hot July day watching the long lineup of ozzfest. I was hot, thirsty, hungry but I did not move from my spot in the lawn (now covered with seats) just so I could get a good spot to see tool. It was first tool experience. It was well worth it after hearing the first notes of Hooke w/a Penis and listening to evangelist Maynard encouraging the crowd to de-dress per intepretation of the Bible.

I have not missed a tool show in close proximity since and I must say I am impressed each time. It was a great show. I will be looking foward to the CT show. The sound in the civic center is not as great but thats ok. I'll take whatever I can get. I propose a meet up at Pigs eye!

I just wished that they played another date in MA so I'd have an excuse to spend the day racing at F1 boston again... :-)

Maynard owns the brightest jacket known to man.

See you in CT!

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

Oh man. This was my second TOOL show, I saw them when they came around in MAy and played at the Orpheum.

Best night of my life. Only way I can describe it.

The band sounded awesome.
The new light displays and Lazer shows were amazing.
the crowd was amazing. Everyone around me were so nice (and wasted I might add)
My cousin's wife surprised me with backstage passes after ISIS played.
That part of the night wasn't very eventful.
Maynard walked by with his dog. He was only in the room for about 5 seconds.
Camella (Adam's wife) and their dog came out.
But finally Danny Carey came out, and I'm glad to say I had the opportunity to shake his hand. My cousin was beside herself, while being a drummer, Danny has always been somewhat of an Idol to her. I was so excited for her...and me for that matter,

amazing night. TOOL once again has ruined any up-coming concert going for me. No one I see will ever compare to them or be that good.

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

OK, picture this if you will: smack-dab in the middle of section 4; my 3 kids around me; trying to get warm and not kick over our drinks; and then: Holy fucking shit!

Great show. Not the best I've seen (Fleet Center Aug, 2002 was) but not a letdown, except for the sound which was somewhat disappointing. The mix seemed off in some songs - too high sometimes, muddy at others, but some songs sounded fine. I'm looking forward to comparing it against Manchester and Hartford. Now, I'm gonna tie-dye some shirts and sell them ... oh, wait ... sorry: flashback.

I thought the playing started off a bit uneven but quickly found a groove. I'm not going to catalog each song - highlights for me (YMMV): the bridge in Schism and the end of Lateralus (Danny is simply beyond...), Wings/10,000 Days, Vicarious.

Set list: nobody mentioned it, but I think they did an instrumental-only version of Disposition between Lateralus and Vicarious.

Side-note: it was my 11 year-old daughter's first Tool show, and she declared it "Awesome!"

Oh, and something I forgot to ask about last night after I left the show: does Maynard always lie down like that after Wings?

And in regards to the sound: it was fantastic, and I was on the lawn.

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

He also said "god damn halitosis" i believe after the pittsburgh bit. implying that we had some rancid breath, haha. it was an INCREDIBLE show. the lasers were just beautiful. i though the visuals for lateralus were perfect--much better than what i remember from the lateralus tour in 2002, but maybe my memory's failing me. overall, i wish i was closer, but it was incredible. so much energy. great crowd. not very many sitting down, which is what i like to see. danny drummed like a demigod. unf. and maynard's voice sounded beautiful. wings for marie and 10,000 days was soooo intense. and then the lighters after...it was like a vigil, no? for his mama? i wanted to think so. such energy.

also, as a side note. i was one of the passengers in that car accident right before exit 11 on 495. thanks to all who laughed at us and yelled. =P but my fucked up shin and bleeding mouth was entirely worth it because we did in fact make it to the show...the airbags serving as blankets on our laps. hahaha. i can't wait to see them again on thursday and maybe such obstacles won't try to fuck up my night.

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

Was like 4th row, section 2, which was basically like front row the way the chairs were setup. Got the tickets from Rich on WBCN for placing second in a contest they had, was only informed the morning of the show that he was giving us his own personal tickets. Mad cool guy, made my fucking YEAR, forget day. Anyways the show was sick, it was my first time seeing Tool so of course I was really excited. Lateralus, Forty Six & 2, and Ænema made me wet myself. I thought the sound was fine, especially for being so close, maybe it wasn't loud enough since my ears are fine though. Had Justin's pick in my fucking palm, MY PALM, and it fell out and some guy in front of me got it. End of story, great show, great tailgaiting (OWN THE CORNER OF LOT 6 BABY, HABACHI GRILL FOR LIFE), one of the greatest shows I've ever been to.

Re: 2006/09/29 - Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center

as usual another phenomonal show

no one can complain about maynard hiding in the back anymore, with that orange jacket in a blacklight you can see the guy from miles away.

the first 3 songs, pumped me right up, and the rest of the show was one fucking ride.

i agree, ive never been in a crowd with such awesome people, no attitudes, not atleast until we left. everyone around me was right into the show.

as for sound, it was great from my section.

lasers left me speechless, i felt the urge to reach out and touch them. never seen such an awesome show visually.

the subtle differences from album to live, is why i love tool. they truely know their songs inside and out.

thanks to all the fans and the band for one awesome show

" (To open the show) "Jesus Fucking Christ!!!" "

Actually, he was commenting on the weather: "Jesus Fuckin Christ it's cold." He did kind of trail off, though.

" He also said "god damn halitosis" "

I thought it was "Jesus Christ halitosis," which I figured was a joke I missed. My full review to come later. Maybe.
