Re: Wednesday Jan 6th - SF

yep. after getting 1 more ticket than expected, much consideration about the possible differences in the SF dates and the rest of the tour, and some weaseling at work… i think I'm going to make the drive up and see night 2. Excited for this experience.

1st time to BG and I'll be driving up from the LA area.
Does anyone have any tips on hotels/parking? is it easier to park on the berkley side of the bay and take BART? would it be cheaper to drive/BART an hour outside of the area to find a hotel? is there parking at the venue? I'm sure it'll be $20 or more cash only? Any tips/advice would be grreeeaaaat

Parking isn't terrible near the venue, I parked in a nearby garage for when Tool played at BG in 2014, was somewhere in the $20-$25 range. Much more convenient then needing to park at Bart and take Bart in. Unless you're planning to stay in Berkeley or outside SF. I'm not sure how much hotels in SF charge for overnight parking though.

Re: Wednesday Jan 6th - SF

Yeah. My plans flopped all around once my buddy turned me on to 'skiplagged'. That app found me an $88 flight LAX>OAK. Looks like BART goes from OAK to venue in about 45 mins. At checkout I added a room in Hotel North Beach for an additional $40. 2 miles from the venue, shared bathrooms, and old... But, hey.round trip flight and a bed for $130? I'll take it. That's still cheaper than the gas to drive. Hope this info helps any travelers out.

From the looks of things you might be able to score one under face from stubglub day-of… I asked for the 7th and 10th off for my shows, but theres a good chance they'll just give me a 4 day weekend because chef is cool like that. if so, I'm looking to do that for the 1st san diego show. I'm a tad worried about 2nd night set lists being the same in both cities, but hey, if TOOL takes the stage i'll be happy.

BTW you'll be happy to know the young metal-head who got that ticket has been texting me pretty deep questions about random songs he's listening to for the first time... This show is going to take him hook, line, and sinker.

That awesome! Yes...his mind will be blown so hard it may cause a supernova that results in an epic implosion creating a black hole in what was once his brain.

Re: Wednesday Jan 6th - SF

Any guess on if Tool will mix up the setlist between nights 1 and 2, if at all? From my previous experience typically they may swap out a single song for another and re-arrange the order slightly at most - but I could be wrong. Still going to both shows and will enjoy it either way, just trying to keep expectations in check. If they give us anything like the Halloween 2015 Tempe show I'll be ecstatic.

Re: Wednesday Jan 6th - SF

In my fantasy, SF will have a wide range of songs that they will hone and narrow down to a set list for the rest of the tour... But that's just me dreaming. I think EBJ's setlist.fm is your best resource.

Re: Wednesday Jan 6th - SF

for those of you that have seen a show at the Bill Graham before, I am flying in from AZ, haven't seen a show there. Would prefer a seat given I am not cut out for the floor anymore and am short, so I generally just end up fighting to see the stage more than anything. I am going solo, how much of a cluster is it a) getting in and b) getting a seat and then keeping said seat? ie. If I have to take a leak or get another beer, am I screwed unless I make friends and damn good ones at that? this is all of course before the show, I am not moving during. and how early to get there if you want a decent seat? generally i'd think floor would be desirable for most but imagine the seats could go quick but no idea how quick. any thoughts/advice is much appreciated.

Re: Wednesday Jan 6th - SF

^The Bill Graham TOOL show i saw in 2010 was fine with regard to fans getting in and acquiring seats. I wouldn't stress too much about it.

Yes, there were a few people, maybe 150, who raced straight in and 'claimed' seats but they had to sit from about 7pm onwards and Green Jello/support act/Jello Biafra (?) didn't come on until about 7:45pm or maybe a little later. TOOL didn't start until about 9pm so it's a lot of sitting around trying to protect your seat.

Going solo might be easier though. If you can grab a decent seat and not move from 7:30pm onwards you'll be fine.

But to be honest, the floor is way better, even if you're not that tall. The stage is 6 feet off the ground so just stand in front of the mixing desk and you'll have a great view. That's where I'll be. Cheers!

Looks like (as of the time of this post) more ticket shave been released for both SF shows. Good luck to any late-buyers.

You wont have a problem securing a seat if you're flying solo. I found the previous 2 times that it was hard to find 2 seats together unless you were inline waiting outside the venue before doors opened. There should be scattered single seats. Just make friends with your neighbor and your seat should be fine if you need to take a leak.

I'm finally getting excited because all week I haven't been, knowing about the weather situation. I'm leaving from Los Gatos at 4 so that *should* be ample time.

See you guys in line - I'll have a longs sleeve CLUTCH shirt on, if you see me say hi. I'll share my umbrella with you if there is room (and you are a girl.)

:)

Let's do this!

Re: Wednesday Jan 6th - SF

Also just a heads up typically the bars inside BG are cash only, not sure if this had changed but this has been the case every time I've been there. My guess is this would apply to merch as well, probably good to have cash just in case.

Apparently The Barrel Room in San Francisco (415 Sansome Street) is serving Caduceus Cellars wine today. Prob can't make it today but if they are doing it again tomorrow might hit it up. Not sure how pricy that place is though, haven't been before.

Re: Wednesday Jan 6th - SF

The visuals were incredible. Blew anything I saw on the 10kdays tour out of the water. Vocals sounded great. Probably my favorite setlist that I've seen them perform. Drums overpowered the bass. Those bass drums were brutal at times. My ears ache. I was about 20 feet in front of the sound board. Anyone have different audio/mixing experiences in different parts of the venue? I'm going back tomorrow and want to know if I should move somewhere else

That was one of the louder Tool shows I've seen recently.

Adam rules.

Re: Wednesday Jan 6th - SF

Yeah it was fucking loud. Also 3TEETH sounded like they could be the Max Mad house band. Just a wall of cave-party noise. Don't think the guitarist even needed to be on stage

Re: Wednesday Jan 6th - SF

Lol FUCK Maynard. It's absolutely redicilous to tour as many times as they have and play basically the same set. I'll be interested to see it tonight, but it will probably just switch out no quarter for sober. Not only is it pretty much the same set from the last 9 years, but they took out one of what should be 2-4 main staples in lateralus. To play a cover...

Don't get me wrong I love no quarter, but if I'm paying 80-100 dollars for a band that rarely ever tours I want to hear tool songs. No quarter would be fine if they played more than 9-10 songs.
